It was (not)parkrun day and no-one had cancelled because of the rain so off I went, regretting the fact that I hadn’t taken my rain jacket. Ah well, once I was wet I couldn’t really get any wetter could I?! It was very murky and wet and on the last bit we had some snow! Well, very wet slushy snow, not your actual deep and crisp and even kind but it was definitely white! We couldn’t be any further south on the south coast, it’s not supposed to snow! But any thoughts of a post run socially distant takeaway coffee (that statement has such a ring to it!) were quickly disposed of. Straight home for hot showers followed by a warm dry Skype chat with Dexy5, UpTheStanley and Mr and Mrs Coddfish, with coffee and another 5 k for roseabi’s 2020 challenge. And was that really me who said next year’s challenge is to press on with my 10k’s and try for 10 miles🙄?
I’ve never run in snow: It was (not)parkrun... - Bridge to 10K
I’ve never run in snow
Brilliant going out in the rain and snow. Pressure for 10k or 10 miles is self imposed 🤣 but it can be great fun. Happy running 🤗
Great run for you today OGR in awful weather, there is to be more rain and snow in some places over the next few days, we had snow early on Sunday and Tuesday morning, it's still lying around.
I tested out a disused school football pitch on a 5 minute run this afternoon to avoid icy pavements for my run tomorrow morning, no problems whatsoever, so it will be a case of running 8K around that pitch goodness knows how many times, it's only a two minute walk away from where I live.
Thanks Alan - running on the football pitch sounds like a good plan, hope it goes well for you!
That short 5 minute test run this afternoon was with Holly the dog, you may remember seeing me with Holly in that Christmas photo, running with her is very tiring, she pulls me, then stops suddenly, tomorrow morning I won't have Holly with me on that run but it will be a lot longer.
I too have yet to run in snow OGR, though I seem to have managed everything else - thunder, lightning, hale, torrential downpours, fog, lovely sunshine (🙄 have forgotten what that looks like....). I'd like a snowy run to round the year off. Our side of the downs my get it Wednesday night into Thursday morning, so we'll see. I'm not surprised you didn't hang about for your coffees. Much wiser and far more comfortble to do it later from the warmth of your homes over Skype 😊☕.
Our Skype calls have been great D-d - we’ve quaffed, gin, cocktails and plenty of wine over the last few months!
Excellent!
I am a witness Oldgirlruns! You definitely said 10 miles. You could have knocked me down with a feather.
Yes it was really you. 4 witnesses and Mrs Coddfish was probably recording 😀
😂😂 Sounds like a plan OGR.Just as well it was a Skype coffee . If you were on the cocktails and gin it might have been a marathon you were aspiring to 😂🥂🍾🥂
Well done OGR! Your rain and snow didn’t reach Bristol until this afternoon and I had sun for my run this morning. ☀️ Kudos to you all for getting out, especially without the lure of your post run breakfast or even coffee!
You’re one determined cookie and I have no doubt that you’ll make 10 miles next year. You’ll definitely have a cheerleading squad from all your ARBs and VRBs! 🎉🎉
That is true grit, OGR. I thought running in a hailstorm yesterday was tough, but you’re on another level! 💪
It was really cold yesterday but i didn’t see any snow to the east of you, I would say i was in a nice warm office but we had the windows open so coronavirus could get in and out quick, sometimes our rules beggar belief, let them wear scrubs they said, bare below the elbows they said now open all the windows in December, 10 miles? that’ll take a while, good luck in your training
Blimey well done you in the snow!!! I have yet to run in snow- hail yes, rain and thunderstorm yes, but no snow. Bit scary when it gets slippy underfoot. I’m having difficulty motivating myself to go out in rain even at the mo. Been feeling sorry for myself as I’ve had RSI in both wrists for a fortnight now so .. can’t knit, can’t crochet, can’t sew, it hurts to hold a book (especially the big fat GOT ones I am reading at the mo) hurts to hold phone and type, can’t do most of my Pilates as a lot is on my wrists ...Doesn’t seem to stop me shovelling Chrismas food in though... 🙄
Then yesterday I woke up ( at 4.00am) with a water infection and spent the day alternately clutching a hot water bottle, drinking loads of water and dashing to the loo, until my lovely son went to the chemist for my prescription that my equally lovely doc had sent over urgently. Was in bed by 8pm. 🥴
I am supposed to be at my Aunts funeral this morning but I’m not sure standing around in the cold is going to be the best thing for me ( although I am feeling a lot better than yesterday )
I’m desperate to get back to running 10ks next year. I think I’ve managed 3 this last year... and a couple of 7,8,9s but mainly 5k each run
Hopefully I’ll get one more run in this year.🤞
As you say once you're wet, you're wet OGR!And I love your New Year resolution!👍😜
In the interest of openness and transparency I should say it wasn’t much and was very wet so more rain than snow although it was definitely white! Oh my word you’re going through the mill at the moment aren’t you? I’m so sorry to hear about your RSI, that must be miserable. I hope the medication is working and that you can get out and about soon.
Fantastic!!!
You may regret the rush of blood to the head OGR 😂 However, what better incentive than having the Great South on your doorstep - you know the area and there are no hills. Perfect!
I have done a parkrun in the snow! There were so few runners, it was my best placing ever 😂😂
Not you as well Linda! Dexy just happened to mention that she’s on the list for booking a GSR place - all casual-like!!
Brrr! Good for you OGR! 👍🏻😄My physio says the jump from 5 to 10k is the most difficult...😄
