Buff round the neck, fingerless gloves and an extra layer for the first time this year, all for week 2 of the speed challenge. I set off first (of course!) to make sure I was finished by the agreed time of 9.15. As I headed homeward I saw Mr and Mrs Speedy, aka Dexy5 and UpTheStanley, just setting off for their run. But we were all done in time for breakfast in our usual post-parkrun restaurant (remember those?!). And time? Well it didn’t feel any faster but the warm up km into a cold wind was 9.05 and my timed km (slightly wind assisted😳)was 8.39 - a whole 4 secs quicker than last week! This snail will take that thank you! Happy speed challenge folks! And I got a festive picture of me and a Christmas tree as part of the bingo challenge!

A big whoop well done to you OGR on that 8.39 PB speed challenge, 4 seconds quicker than last week, UTS must be getting worried that you will soon overtake him at your weekly (not) parkrun, once again congratulations

Thanks Alan - kind of you to say so but I’m pretty sure UTS won’t need to worry about me overtaking him anytime soon!!

Awesome run OGR. Must be something about that bracing South Coast climate which is bringing out the best in you all; or maybe it’s the promise of breakfast! 👏👏👏👏👏

Obviously the thought of breakfast in The Briny spurred you on as well as Dexy. 4 seconds faster is a great improvement! I resorted to long sleeved top and hat for the first time yesterday - it’s blooming freezing isn’t it?

Yes the thought of breakfast is a great lure Sandie. And you’re right it’s blooming freezing but I’ve just about thawed out now!

I’d take 8.39 too, that’s what I would be hoping for, that 7 thingy was a bit of a fluke It was cold this morning I’m glad you could have your post run inside

I’m dreaming of a 7 thingy km Sola!

SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Oldgirlruns

I was having those dreams and it’s happened a couple of times, i tend to think if i could shift the giving up smoking stone i could run faster but suspect if i lost all my extra weight my little legs just couldn’t go faster lol Have a good weekend

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

If you can do it, I can - well I might be able to one day!. Assuming I can a) lose a couple of stone and b) make my legs move faster! So we’ll just keep trotting together and we’ll get there eventually I’m sure! Good luck!

Brilliant Ogr, to knock 4 seconds off your 1km time and breakfast with your bubble, it sounds like a perfect way to spend a chilly Friday morning to me. And a tick on the bingo card to boot, excellent 👍🤶🎅🎄🦌⛄

Thanks FRB, you’re right - it was a great way to spend the morning and I’ve finally thawed out!

Well improved OGR! But fingerless gloves? They're my coldest bits!😀

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to JonathanP

They’re merino wrist warmers JP, so I can pull them down over my fingers if I need to! (I’m such a fashionista 😂!). I’ll be into ‘proper’ gloves before long I expect - especially if it stays cold!
