A couple of years ago, while on one of my sporadic attempts to get fitter, I got into Park Runs, and did about six in the late summer and autumn of 2018. Then the nasty cold wet weather arrived and I missed a couple, then after Christmas just stopped. My times for 5K were really slow, and I was always at the back of the pack, but I enjoyed the sense of achievement at actually finishing.
Now that I've finished the Couch to 5K, did some consolidation runs, I'm itching to have another go at a Park Run, I'm positive I'll do much better, so I want to get out there.....but no, Covid is still with us and Park Runs are suspended, I don't think we'll see them back this side of Christmas.
I read somewhere that they were starting back up on Saturday 31st October, even booked the morning off work to attend.....but I think the Second Wave has put the kibosh on that.
Ah well, a few more consolidation runs for me.

I’m really hopeful that I can run a Christmas Day one this year... and then there will be Boxing Day too 🤣... but I agree it doesn’t look great at the moment. I think they said they will need 4-6 weeks to be ready, so things need to improve again soon. Fingers crossed.
You could register with the Parkrun Website and run the (not ) parkruns, the official Parkruns won't start until everyone has been vaccinated and according to a report I read yesterday could take some time.
Parkrun hasn’t made any link to vaccination as a pre-requisite to restarting. That may be a reasonable opinion about what will happen, but it’s not parkrun policy. Tom Williams on last week’s volunteer Q&A certainly gave the impression it’s likely to be a while before it’s back in the UK.
I watched that video as well Coddfish, we will just continue with (not) parkruns and hope that more people will take part in them, it's been a bit disappointing that so few people are doing them although the uptake on the Healthunlocked forums is good.
I was planning on having my 100th parkrun completed around now. But I'm stuck at 73 or 74. I am really missing it too. I really got into it last year, I hardly missed a week and really got into going to different parkruns too. I was slow at first. My first parkrun was just over 39 minutes. Last year I worked my way from the end of the field to the top 3rd of the field which was a great feeling getting a PB of 25:36.
Each Saturday a group of us from this Forum do a Virtual parkrun. We just run 5K on our own and post up a little run afterwards. It can be done anytime on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Keep an eye out for (not)parkrun/Virtual 5K each Saturday. There is also a link on the parkrun website to register your 5K runs during the week as a (not)parkrun and you can chase after PB's.
I notice Damien that from about now until the end of November the Irish Government has tightened the restrictions to almost the way it was earlier in the year, what I noticed especially was there once again is a 5K limit to how far you can travel, so you will still get your (not) parkrun ran on a Saturday morning.
Yes 5K is loads. It is a 5K radius from my home. So I can fit a 7K and a 10K route into that. So from a running point of view I'm OK. The kids are still going to School which is great. I was working from home anyway for the past 8 months. So for us nothing has changed at all. We don't go to the pub regularly and nor do we regularly go to restaurants. I hate shopping and for the past few years have shopped online for Christmas because I hate seeing the marketing and greed around Christmas time.
The numbers were rising quickly here. Caused mainly by house parties, people not self isolating after coming back from a foreign country etc. Mainly younger people affected, but it is rapidly spreading through the community. I think though that the same people having house parties will continue on having parties and going to parties, but there should be a slow down in community transmission. Stop the spread now over the next 6 weeks so as it can spread again all over Christmas and New Year and we can go back into lock down again then in late January and February.
