Set off in the car this morning feeling good and positive about knocking some time off my 2nd parkrun. Arrived, parked the car, dropped my inhaler under the seat, whilst fiddling around trying to find it ended up with cuts to hand and wrist, tissue wrapped around to catch the blood( not deep cuts more little gauges), inhaler in other hand. Off to warm up, that went well.
Go to the start line with my strategy of start slow to get through my toxic 5mins and then try to lift the pace gently from there, well no, 3 mins into the run lungs said NO! had to stop, leaning against tree couple of puffs on inhaler, waited while everything settled and set off again, very slow.
Wind was bloody horrible, wasn't enjoying the run at all, gremlins were having a field day and all but a coup d'état, little bas****s!
1.8 into the run (term used very loosely) lungs again rebelled and out with puffer again, thinking shall we just call it a day, and have record of DNF. Well no couldn't live with that, just started again cap then blew off so I had to turn back and run after that, happened twice before I decided to just hold the dam thing, (slow learner).
Anyway trundled on feeling blah, meh and all that stuff, came upon a lovely Marshall who kindly said "last bit, nearly there".
So happy to run through the finish funnel/tunnel, inhaler out again, calves felt like they were in the jaws of a great white, what a sorry state!
Sat in the car before driving home, shaking my head and grinning from ear to ear, what a morning, nothing pleasant or enjoyable about that experience but I did my 5k, no pb, official time 39:02, lived to tell the tale and still smiling. Got to be good for you!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend and more enjoyable runs than that one
