I don't need much persuading to be out of doors at this time of year. October is one of my favourite months and I can happily spend hours on long dog walks or out in the garden to appreciate the varied colours as the trees begin to lose their green hue in favour of more golden tones.
It was just a gentle 4k in the early morning sunshine today as I gave my new Brooks trail shoes their first outing. There was a noticeable difference in grip, especially when I came to run down a slope that I usually take quite cautiously after the rain as it can be loose and slippy underfoot; but there was no need today! I love the tred on the soles of the Brooks - no need to keep pausing to pick acorns and small fir cones out of the hollows in the soles now; result! I did keep pausing to take photos though π·, as it was so pretty.
So this morning it was a good run. I jumped and dodged puddles, ran through the mud and had a definite spring in my step as The Kooks "She moves in her own way" came on; it's a good job no one was about to see me π.
Home for breakfast, a quick shower, and then I was out along these paths again with my dog for a lovely walk. A double dose of what feels good π and a couple of hours in the garden. Perfect.
Absolutely! I couldn't run last autumn due to injury, so that is making it even more enjoyable. I have my earmuffs and gloves ready for those really chilly runs, which will be here before we know it. π₯Άπ
Sounds excellent DD! Decided I would go for brisk walk with OH and my dog. Managed 4K and then dog (who is 5 weeks pregnant ) started to flag. OH had to carry her for the last stretch. No stamina dogs these days....was hoping to add some mileage to LeJog.
Slightly tender afterwards but did a good stretch and was fine. Still waiting to try new shoes.
Oh, poor pooch, but how lovely to be carried home (hope she's not a Great Dane!). Looking forward to some puppy photos when the big day arrives please!
What a lovely post, your enjoyment of your run and Autumn in general shines through. Its a wonderful time of year, I like spotting the fungi, never know what they are but they fascinating.
Beautiful Delly-dot, a perfect Sunday, lovely pics, itβs all been a bit too soggy around here but hopefully your lovely post will encourage me to get out and enjoy Autumn more before itβs all over. π€

My running has been a bit hit and miss over the last few weeks if Iβm honest, but as Octoberβs quest is all about being βon itβ, thatβs what Iβm going to try and do. π
What a lovely day you're having. Great to get a solid 4k done in your new shoes. I'm a complete convert to mine, although they are a little heavier than my road shoes. I'm glad you're feeling positive about the autumn - there is so much bad stuff going on, but if we can get outside on these beautiful days it all helps!
Absolutely agree. It did me the world of good to be outside today. Just in from tidying up in the garden and have covered up the garden furniture for the winter..... still kept a chair in a sunny corner though π βοΈ for cups of coffee in the garden βοΈ.
Gardening is good for the soul. I have an allotment so after my walk with my dad and my dog, I did 3 hours of work on the allotment. Still harvesting the last of the tomatoes! Take care.
Oh that all sounds lovely - the run, the walk & the new trail shoes. π Thatβs interesting to read about the improved grip - I havenβt bought trail shoes because I read that they are designed with neutral gait & I overpronate. - But there are definitely times when I could do with being more sure footed on muddy footpaths.
It was really interesting.... I had a similar concern regarding over-pronation so went back to the specialist running shop where I had my gait analysis done and where I bought my running shoes last year. Their advice was spot on. All trail shoes are made neutral to allow your foot the extra mobility it needs to enable it to stabilise itself on uneven ground.
The trainers I bought last year were for over-pronation, plus I have been running with insoles since June when I had shin splints. I have been running pain free since and was really concerned new footwear might upset all the progress Iβd made. I got on the treadmill for gait analysis wearing the Brooks trail shoes and my gait has changed completely and I am now neutral! Watching the video clip of my posture/gait, it was really interesting to see how different it was. The assistant explained itβs not unusual as gait can change as muscle strength improves.
So long story short - I wouldnβt let worries about over-pronation put you off. Itβs well worth going for gait analysis again, but even if your gait hasnβt changed it is possible to find the right trail shoe for you as the terrain requires your feet to act differently.
Thatβs very interesting, thanks for the information. π I too have been nervous of a backward step with pain (Plantar Facciitis for me.) I also had wondered whether my gait might change - I have been doing physio exercises daily as well as my running. I will have my gait rechecked at some point when we are out of local Covid restrictions. It would be great to enjoy my field runs around the year, rather than in summer drought only. π
Beautiful Autumnal posting DD it's just oozes colour and leaf fall and everything that makes this season soooooo lovely. Running in autumn is perfect π, glad the cascadias did you proud, I've the earlier model and yep super grippy..... Today I gave my brooks ghosts an outing in similar autummness ππΏοΈπ perfect.
What a terrific day for you! Love October, love your shoes, love that song and bloomin' love your progress!!
That looks a wonderful run D-d. I am completely in agreement about this time of year, it is so beautiful, whatever the weather. Also easier running when it is cooler, less of the radish and beetroot impressions! So glad the shoes held up to expectations and long may they run. π€ππββοΈπββοΈππ.
....... thinks........ birthday in the next month, I really DO need some new trainers, don't I?!!
It was a beautiful day Dd and you certainly made the most of it with a lovely run in the new shoes, a walk AND some gardening ππππ loving The Kooks- going to be humming it all day....π€£
What a great post. I almost felt I was out there with you. I'm glad you like your new Cascadias. Like you I wore my new pair for their maiden outing over the weekend. I was surprised by the grip that I had. I have been struggling with the gravel on some of the paths around the country park and added to that huge amounts of acorns, conkers and wet leaves it has been pretty treacherous in places. With the new Cascadias I felt I was able to skip over the path with ease. I am really impressed with them.
I hope your shoes give you many miles of happy running.
Sounds like a lovely day Delly-dot! My favourite time of year too. ππππ½ββοΈπGlad that the new trail shoes proved comfy and did their job - they can make a real difference, especially on slippy trails. π
