That day comes for every new runner. It happened to me after a Christmas break with family (remember when those days were possible?). I got home feeling like a slug and it was on that day that I made the decision not to give up, but to become a runner. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Shoes on, chin up, ignore the gremlins and get out there. Once you've done it, you'll wonder what you were worried about. The only runs you regret are the ones you don't do!
Aww that’s such a great reply!! Thank you so much. It’s only been (less than) three weeks but it seems like forever. It has fallen apart since the dark mornings set in, and I find it too tricky to run at any other time. I got myself all the hi vis and a head torch but 4.45am was just pitch black (country road- I live in a village) All the excuses, but you’re right. Thank you ♥️
Hi Elleay totally agree with Speedy60, just go out and run- doesn't have to be 5k, but it's the weekend- go for a run- the weather is beautiful 🏃♀️😁🍁🍂
Thank you! It’s also our October holiday here, so I can really get back on it! I’m pretty sure I can get back on track if I just make the first move. Enjoy your runs too!
You've got this 👍🏃♀️ my legs need some pampering after yesterday's run, I'm pretty sure that cake will help 🤣🍰 but I'll be back out tomorrow or Monday to make the most of the free stress relief and the rest of this beautiful October 😁🏃♀️🍁
Thank you! I’ve been following you for a while and you’re a great inspiration! I’m going through a terrible time just now and running has been one of my saviours. I’m desperately trying to keep moving forward... literally!
Aww thanks so much... how lovely of you to say that 💕
I struggle to be kind to myself... the running bug has well and truly bitten me but I’ve had an awful time with work stuff and more recently felt unwell (possibly stress related with it all ) so I can relate to what you say... running was my saviour too...
I can’t stress enough to be kind to yourself.. I’m so sorry you’re going thru stuff - life can be pants at times! Celebrate the tiny positives.. tiny steps forward. 👍
feel free to private message me... it might help and you never know some of my experiences may just ease your way through your stuff
It’s good to talk and I’m fiercely protective of our running family and they have looked after me these past few months x
As others have said, intervall running seems to be a good way back in, and I have just run and reviewed the first of Erin’s runs on Runkeeper.
There is no shame doing intervals. It took me a while to understand these as not going back, but training in a particular way. And you can always shift from walk-run intervals to slow-fast run intervals.
Hi Elleay, just go out for a no pressure gentle jog. No need to push speed or distance, just go out to enjoy it gently. You will be amazed at how much fitness you have retained - 3 weeks is not long.😄
I’m really sorry that life is tough just now- all the more important to make your running something that you can enjoy. 😄
The important bit is just to get out and do SOMETHING.
I spent four weeks on the injury couch before I could do any consolation runs. I'm doing intervals to build back the endurance and protect against future injury. If I can work up to doing 5km by the end of this month I'll be very pleased with myself.
Do a gentle jog. No expectations. Stop when you feel tired.
I've lost it loads of time before. You will find it again once your out the door and within 2-3 weeks you will be back to normal. Happy running and welcome back.
It's difficult to look after ourselves when things aren't right or we feel unsettled. I think you'll be fine after a 3 week break, just take it easy on yourself, slow and steady. Remember the power of running! Running can be a constant friend to us all, to relieve stress and worries. Good luck. 😊
