I have run 9k!!! Flipping heck what is going on????!!!!! I set off this morning with the intention of doing a 4-5k run, easing myself back in as I said on Wed...well, that was then!!! and this is NOW!! The weather this morning was perfect..nice and bright with quite a cold wind...not breeze, wind. The scenery was just beautiful & it was one of those ‘glad to be alive’ runs...I ran into the memories of our holiday, i thought about my Mum, how proud she would be of me be able to do such a wonderful thing...my head was clear, i was enjoying life....by the 3rd km my legs were grumbling a bit but then, as I turned the sweeping bend there he was, this HUGE figure positively bounding towards me....he was a proper beefcake..very tall, very muscley, dark & very fit...I picked up my pace and started springing along like a gazelle, we said hello to each other as we both sprung past each other & then as he disappeared I went back to running like a dog that had been run over, but I carried on, head, lungs, heart, pace....everything was perfect...I turned around and started running back to the car...when I got to about 6k I could hardly believe it, I’d lost track of the distance ....and then there, in the distance, the big figure was bounding towards me again...so I put my shoulders back & started my gazelle like running form once again...& I think he did the same. Only thing was, I was wet through with sweat & with the ready break glow i was wearing, could be spotted from space...I’m sure he wanted to ask if I needed help but he gave me a massive smile, (or maybe he was trying not to laugh?), bounded by, not a bead of sweat or any sign of struggle to be seen, & again, when he disappeared, I went back to my lame dog style...the only thing missing was a whimper!! I had a change in my ears today & had radio 2 on...pop master came on...I ran over the bridge & past the smoking shelter that’s outside one of the factories....”GO ON BEV-LAR!!!!” One of my friends was on his fag break & spotted me...well that was another spring in my step...I picked up my pace & ran like a pro!!! (That’s what it felt like anyway!!!!)
So by this time I knew I was going to do another 9k, there was no doubt about it...I almost pushed for 10 but I want to do it properly...I know it’s taking me some time but I can feel it...
So there...we surprise ourselves when we’re on the C25k programme when we see a run, think it’s impossible but then nail it and this programme is no different...so today, I will mostly be feeling surprised!!! I’ve got that Friday feeling xx
Happy running my lovely family...

🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽!! Mummycav! You star!! 🤩 When it’s unplanned too! It’s brilliant!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Well done you!! P.S may there be plenty more Beefcakes to help us run the extra few K or so! 😉🤣❤️
You’ll get there if you keep running. Slowly, slowly chewing up the miles. The slower the better. I am training for a half and a marathon, and the distances have just ramped up. I’ve barely stopped walking this week cos of having dogs here but I do think it helps.
Oh I have a vivid imagination. I re-wrote a verse to one of the songs I was listening to 😁. It could even be a hit. It’s called When my Settee Breaks 👀.
I Write my shopping list in my head. I plan my grub, when to take the dog blah blah, what chores need doing. Gawp at the scenery, smile at folks - especially the grumpy ones 👹, watch my step through the woods, try to remember not to breathe in at the sewage works I run so many different routes that there’s always something new to check out. You can zone out on long runs on the trail when there’s no-one about. You sort of go missing in action 😃
When my setter breaks???!!!! That’s hilarious?! I just think about how much further I’ve got to run, which is quite annoying..I do compose my post for here too though, well bits of it x
Hooray! Well done! I'm glad I'm not the only person who goes into gazelle mode when beefcakes approach!! The plan is so fab isn't it? I never thought I'd get past 5/6 k but did 9 last weekend. Really hope to do 10k soon. It's just around the corner for us MC....!! ( Lovely set of pins btw!) x
Aw, thanks Tbae , I knew when I set off that I had more in the tank than I thought...the last 500m were hard but no-one said it was always going to easy, after all, I’m still learning...I don’t need to learn about grit though, I’ve always had that, it’s just not always visible!! xx
Haha, nice one Bev. I have to admit that I try to relax my breathing and pull my stomach in when passing other runners, especially the ladies. Oh dear, what are we like?
Lol MikeJones68 ...are you not really batman????? I also try to not look so pink!!! Which is obviously impossible...I look better when I’ve got my cap on so I can kind of hide it a bit!! I concentrate on getting back to my normal colour but it never works...🙄
LOL. I think I should really accept the fact that they are not going to be looking at a tired, wheezing 50 year old man anyway and just get on with it!
You are Super Woman! Well done, Bev-lar! Cracking run. You know that I have ALWAYS believed you have it in you. And you know how you were worrying that you had only ran twice in two weeks? Well, that was you giving your lovely pins a rest, and they benefitted from that. With a lovely 9km woo hoo!
I loved this write-up, Mummycav . Especially the beefcake part. I always, without fail, sharpen up my act when a fellow runner comes towards me. In my head I look like Paula Radcliffe running her best race pace. Sigh. Far from the reality, but it makes me happy.
Now, have a good recovery period, be good to those legs, and 10km next, right? Go Bev-lar!! xxx
Haha thanks Sadie-runs we must all do the same...shoulders up, chest out, slow breathing & an exaggerated circular movement in our legs??? Then DIE as they disappear!!!
My legs seem to have def benefitted from a good rest from running, they were very well behaved today...thank you, as always, for your encouragement xxx
Oh, that did make me laugh. and that is SOOOO what i do when i see another runner, especially a fit one (and i don't mean healthy). i love the description, springing like a gazelle. It crossed my mind to wonder if all those other runners I see are doing the same and aren't really twice as fast as me.
Utterly brilliant piece of writing, best larf I've had all week, and fantastic run. Oh, and very shapely pair of pins xxx
Great stuff! Love that, I can imagine the scene pretending to be Mo Farah (insert lady equiv. here!) but feeling like Norman Wisdom (insert lady equiv. here!) when a supremely fit and attractive fellow runner pops into view!
Brilliant effort, that 10k is beckoning you Neo style!! x
Well done, MC!!! You’ll be hitting that 10k in no time at all at this rate - especially if you have passing interest to inspire you! ❤️ (Had to laugh at the description of you switching to gazelle mode then back to lame dog! 😂😂😂)
Awww, thank you JanB76 , I am sure 5k will come soon enough, it took me yonks to do 5k but that was because I didnt hink i could do it, but really I could and it wasn’t until I started ju-ju- ’s plan that I started doing it regularly, I was hesitant at taking on the plan because of that reason so you know what? Think positive, you can do it, you just need to build up to it slowly..& when you do achieve it you will cry tears of joy & disbelief....please let us all know how you’re doing xx
Thanks Polly2810 , you will get to 5k, I promise...how far are you getting now?? Like I said to JanB76 , I didn’t think I’d run 5k but that was all in my head, it was in there waiting to be run...just keep trying, it will come x
Only about 3.8 but that is very gentle I certainly don’t push it there is always more in the tank we are Going to do half hours for a couple of weeks then increase to 35 then 40 and just see how it goes.
Loved the post ... particularly your description of your change of style/pace when seeing a hunky runner, that's me all over! I'm always surprised when I manage to pull that bit extra out of the bag ... but it quickly goes back in again!
Good luck with your 10k ... I look forward to reading about it very soon.
Thanks Wizziewood , I cant wait to post that I’ve finally managed it...I could’ve prob pushed for more but I want to do it properly, I know I haven’t done it in the specified time but I’ve managed to keep running on holiday, if I’d have been at home I might’ve reached it weeks ago 😏 but I enjoyed my tourist running x
That's a great, fun, run MC. Imagine how speedy you'd be with two feet
Thanks Hidden , it took me a lot of convincing from my lovely family on here that I am a ‘proper runner’ but I DEFINITELY feel like one these days 🏃🏼♀️💪🏻😉
Good thanks, still not running. A lot going on, new job, duff car, getting a new car.... all that kinda stuff. First on my list after that is booking a physio appt for my arse cheek. Have bought cycling shorts in preparation so I don't have to bare flesh!! Don't want to go, but I do want to get back out running more! Although probably back to the start for me, it's been so long now - March!! Following your achievement spurs me on to get back out there though xx
This is describing my runs exactly, sometimes I get carried away and my Garmin watch tells me how far I have run and it practically urges me on and on and on. It’s a great feeling isn’t it? Your mum would have been well proud, nice work Mummycav.
A terrific post... and we have all done it... pulled in those tummy muscles, stuck out our chests, shoulder back and pretended we were breathing normally!
I laughed out loud at this... wonderful... wonderful... Well done you and yes...your Mum.. will be glowing with pride... what a girl you are !!! xxxx
Aww, thank you Oldfloss , that means a lot...if my Mum knew I was running on the canal, by myself, she’d be saying ‘I’ll pick you up at the other end’ or ‘are you sure you’ll be ok???’...a bit what I’d be like with mine!!
It’s amazing what another runner approaching does for the form!! Lol xxx
Ha! Lovely run and write up. We all need a beef cake to help us with our form from time to time! Just loved this 😉 You're doing amazingly well Bev, running really agrees with you. Go get em girl xxx
