In a moment of total madness, and in response to an email from parkrun, I've only just gone and signed up for the virtual 2020 Vitality London 10,000π±
It seems that "all" I have to do is complete a 10K run on the route of my choice anytime during the October half-term β from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November.
Now, if everything goes smoothly, these dates just happen to coincidence nicely with my final week of the Magic 10 Plan π. So I guess I'm publicly holding myself to account here.
I'm also slightly terrified about what I've just done π°

Good for you. That should keep you motivated. I'm just thinking of starting to get up to a 10k but not sure how I'd fit the runs in with the dark evenings coming & living in the middle of nowhere. π
I don't see any problem with that Birdlady64, no need to be terrified, by the time you have completed the Ju Ju's Magic 10 plan you will be ready to run that Virtual Vitality London 10,000 (10K) on a route of your choice sometime during the last week of October
Earlier this year in May I changed my longer running day from Wednesday to Monday, it was on the 25th May to take part and run something similar virtually with a group of Graduate10 people on this forum, my time that day was 73.21, good luck to you for that runππΎπ
Go for it! I think there is a mystique about 10k. The idea of running that far frightened me a bit initially! When I did my first 10k I was a bit frightened about having done it!
I know in myself that 10k is doable. I just wanted to do it slowly and hopefully avoid the IC. Now I have put the pressure on myself again π€¦
Thatβs terrific, Iβm very glad to have more company in doing just the same. Moment of madness, nah!, you know you want to get that bling and the T-shirt just as much as I do π€£ ...we are going to do this ππ€
I'm sure you will be running 10k yourself before long if the recovery continues the way it has been. That is if you decide you want to run longer of course.
I'm not fast, but plodding slowly away for a while is something I can do reasonably ok. My swimming is a bit the same in fact
I do wish to run longer, both distance and duration. I know it'll come, but just not as fast as I'd anticipated when nearing the end of C25K. The enforced break has stopped me "pushing" as hard.
You will have no problem Birdlady64, well on track!
I have had to stop all running for 7 days so far as full of cold and chesty cough. Hopefully be able to start again later next week. wk7 of the plan. Hopefully 10k around the same time!
Don't be terrified Birdlady64 you'll be absolutely fine doing this and there are a few of us going to be running it with you, well virtually anyway . Good luck π
What a perfect way to keep that motivation up throughout the month. To take the terrors away, right now you could do a run/walk that would take you to 10k and beyond... so you will complete the event and earn your bling. Have fun training up to this... you can do it... we are all here to cheer you along.
I think thatβs great! The time of the run coinciding with the end of the Magic Plan is perfect. Youβll be ready! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπ
You'll be just fine ! You've already run 8k, so 10k is absolutely do-able.
Fwiw I'm still using the technique I used during C25K, which is reframing runs and breaking them down into stuff I know I can do. For example, instead of seeing 10k as 25% further than 8k, which was frankly scary for little old me, I decided that once I'd got to 8k I could perfectly well run for another few minutes to take me to 9k. Then at 9k, I just told myself it'd be a shame to stop, when I'd only got few minutes more to do to hit 10k. And bingo, it worked!
Well done Birdlady, there are quite a few of us who originally signed up for the vitality 10000 in London in May. All cancelled, so weβll be doing the virtual run at the end of the month. Itβs great that they will be sending us a race number so everyone will know we are doing something special.
Birdlady64, it's contagious! After reading your post, I've signed up too! π±πIt would be the week I finish the bridge to 10k too. I've not been a 100% well for the last couple of weeks so there is a chance I might not be able to do it, but I've signed up anyway!
I'm sure you will be able to get there. I feel a bit sniffly myself the last 2 days but I am determined to get out for my 5k today at some point despite the rain.
Always good to feel like we're in it together. I've been mildly unwell for 2 weeks and it's not shifting! It's v frustrating. But I got out for my 4k this morning with minimal rain. Next week is the first 9 k so am hoping to be feeling much better. I've decided I'll do the 10,000 even if I end up walking some of it!π
Good luck Birdlady64. I'll be joining you virtually. I signed up a couple of weeks ago. It will be my first race. Just need to decide which day to do it now.
You have got this. A great way to complete the Magic Plan. If youβre on 8 k now you can definitely do this. Take care run slowly and go steady. πππππππππ€π€π€π€πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Iβve entered that one too, itβll be my first ever medal for running π€ youβll be fine, just pace yourself and donβt set off too quickly. Thereβs a 10k run on the Nike Run Club app, Iβve used it a few times....Coach Bennett will keep you company and get you through it.....Good Luck.. see you at the finish lineπ
I entered it too !!!! My first βraceβ ! I plan to do it on 1st Nov - giving myself maximum time to get there and a bit more. Currently in week 5 and ran 8k last Sunday - another 8k tomorrow (gulp).... great that thereβs a whole bunch of us !!
Oh dearie me - I've just signed up too πππ! Don't be terrified - you can do 60 minutes, so 10k should be a doddle - you'll be fine. Let us know how you get on & good luck! π
You'll be fine! Just think of the fish & chips (& maybe ice cream) on the virtual bus home ππ
Well Birdlady64 youβve sure started something now, weβll have a whole coach load virtually wheeling it up to London and there I was thinking itβs just mad little old me π€£π€£π€£π€£ ... now theyβll be sandwiches and singing on the bus and all, and fish and chips on the way home, itβs such a long time since Iβve been on such an outing itβs soooooo exciting πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
I just hope some of us get to run 10k London October 2021 π€
Good luck Birdlady - you will definitely smash this! A great idea to have this coincide with finishing the Magic Plan. So you will have a medal to go along with your first 10k. That's brilliant!!!!
Me too!! ππββοΈ I did my 3rd 10k this morning with a new PB, saw your post and thought why not??!! It will be my first race and medal too, even if it is a virtual one. Plus itβs my 54th birthday that week and I need something to do on my week off work π
Ha! I wouldnβt say seasoned, just a bit more confident. Too many injuries and starting at the beginning again. .I actually enjoy the longer more steady paced runs. Oh and PB was 1:06.20 π Weird thing is Iβm doing a Garmin 5k timed plan work out which is tough but it is giving me faster 10k runs...
Good Lord indeed! It was definitely a moment of utter madness - and just look what I have started here!!!!
Definitely fish and chips all round. Although the fish and chips here at home will be nothing like the fish and chips I had on holiday in Abersoch. The were to die for! π
One advantage of a virtual race is thereβs no cut off time so you can take it easy with no fear of being picked up by the sweeper bus. So relax and enjoy π
Yes - there may well be a danger of me being picked up by that virtual sweeper bus - we will see. As long as everyone saves me some fish and chips I won't mind π
Ooh well done Birdlady! That will be a great motivator, you will do it! I would like to do it too as I hope to get to the 10k run of the magic plan that week. I'm not great at this tech stuff though π, is it easy to enter?
