How on earth did I get here?

All a bit of a mess tech-wise today but that was user error. I tried my first ever jog run sprint for this morning’s run. It was stop start to begin with as the first instruction was to sprint! Got it sorted eventually and did my usual km trot to the seafront to warm up. I’m afraid my jog was a good fast walk, followed by run at my normal pace and sprint at whatever passes for sprint in OGR-land ! 2sets of 4 repeats in each and I was done. I’m taking this slow folks until I know what I’m doing(😳). All I can say is that the sprint felt faster.... After that I trotted back to my start point to finish my 5k, only for Mr Garmin to not actually record the last bit! Ah well, not to worry - I know where I started and finished so I know how far I went! And l had an email on Tuesday to tell me it was my Parkrun anniversary! And, of course, I signed up for the Vitality virtual 10k in October. Oh crikey, where did all that come from?!!

Wow, sprinting sounds fun 😎I have been so hung up on negative splits then not having enough left energy wise to speed up to get the negative splits that there hasn’t been much faster running

Will try soon

They call it sprinting - most people would call it something else entirely WaS!

You are an athlete Oldgirlruns, that is very good that you are now sprinting, it's a pity Mr Garmin did not record the last sprint, congratulations on your run today.

I'll need to get back to running 10K's as I did in May, June and July, I have not ran any distance over 5K since that 16K /10 miles in July, I'll start running longer runs next week, good luck for your Vitality virtual 10K in October. 😊 🏃🏾

Kind of you to say AM, although sprinting is probably overstating the reality! But we do what we can don’t we! Good luck with your longer runs - 10 miles is Great South Run territory so I’m very impressed if you do that regularly!

Well done Oldgirlruns. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to run with you but you but you were probably done before I got out of bed.

Not today Dexy - I finished about our (not)Parkrun time so a bit later than normal. Well it’s Saturday so a lie in is called for!

You are certainly braver than me!! Well done you. Experimenting is always interesting and you got out there again 👏👏👏

Thank you GTFC, I need to get my legs shifting at more than just my one very slow speed. I’ll never be fast, I know that, but it would be nice to have a choice of slows!

Go you with the joggle sprintlets! Sorry - that's what they are for me so I like to make them them sound less threatening 🤣🤣🤣 Enjoy your programme - I'm sure these intervals are good for us!!

I love the term joggle sprintlets Fionamags - suits what I did perfectly! May I borrow it please?!

Marvelous OGR! I love how you’re doing JRS. Brilliant stuff. I’ve made a promise with TailChaser that I’ll get back to intervals soon, but whenever she fancies (and I’m in NO hurry)! They certainly help and you might end up loving them. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Keeping things firmly crossed for October’s Virtual Vitality, but hope is fading somewhat - but while there’s hope ....... 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Thanks cheeky! Yes, fingers and toes crossed for October!

One way or the other we'll get it done I'm sure. I'm just waiting for eldest to go to uni and get my HUHM out of the way and then I'll be off on those intervals - if parkrun is to come back (by some miracle) soon then I'm going to nail that PB and hopefully you will to cheeky - there has to be a reason for the interval suffering! And it will be JRS for me too OGR 😁

Well done OGR. When I do this, I include a 5 minute warm up and I most definitely don’t try to stretch it to a 5k run! At the most I am running for 26 minutes - 5 minutes warm up, 3 repetitions of the 5 jog / run / sprint blocks with 2 minutes recovery after each. I wouldn’t expect to cover more than 3.5k, bearing in mind you are working a lot harder during parts of it.

I think I probably covered about the same distance in the jrs bit. I think because I fast walked the jog bit, I wasn’t as puffed at the end as I might have been! It was a bit of a trial run really to check it out. Next time may be very different!

Don’t you just hate when that happens! Looks like the London 10k is going to be very crowded this year!! At least we won’t be dragging at the back of the pack but just enjoying our front row view!! I always prefer that to other people’s bums!! 🤣

JRS?! Go OGR! It'll set you up for your virtual 10k.👍

Kind of you to say so JP - but don’t get carried away at the idea of me actually moving swiftly. I suspect you’d be hard pushed to differentiate between my normal speed and anything else- but I shall do my best and we’ll see how it goes!

Well done on your jog, run, sprint - always meant to try this myself. Did you set the intervals on your Garmin or use an App?

Sounds like a lot of us have signed up for the Virtusl Vitality 10000 too!👍🙂

I downloaded the app (surprisingly called Jog Run Sprint!) and Dexy5 set it up for me! I do hope people don’t get the wrong idea about the sprinting bit - this is me we’re talking about and fast is not what I do!!

Well done OGR, it does get easier. Only big mistake is to try to go too fast too soon; you are on the right track 👏👏👏👏👏

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply toBeachcomber66

Thanks Bc - I think there’s little chance of my going too fast too soon. Or ever! But it’s a nice thought!!

I just found this post and would like to have a go at the jog run sprint app 😁🏃‍♀️ I've had a go at the NHS speed podcast a couple of times on my short run and it's great fun 🤣 certainly gets the heart rate upup- and my sprint is nothing like a sprint either- don't want to do myself a mischief- it makes a fun change from jog, jog, jog I find it quite exhilarating 👍enjoy doing joggle sprintlets once a week and I'll keep going too 🏃‍♀️😁
