What have I done?

So, after a morning visiting a dear friend in a hospice and then collecting hubby from the Marsden after his scans ( thankfully all clear 🙏🏻) I went to bed emotionally drained and woke in a determined mood. So, when an invitation to run the Royal Parks half in October for the Marsden cancer charity popped into my FB page ( other social media platforms are available), what did I do? Lil’ ol’ me, max distance run so far 5.3k? Yep, signed up!

So, fellow forum-ers, I have two questions for you, apart from am I mad, which is probably a given. 1) Is this at all realistic? I’m signed up to Ju-ju’s Magic 10 plan, so should be at 10k by end June. And 2) Has anyone else signed up for this?

All advice very gratefully received. Thanks

You’ll be fine. You can increase distance by 10% a week. I know, that just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it 😃

Doing the 10 is the magic number programme is going to be fun🙂👍

Cross training starts to get important now. Other exercise on your non-run days, eggs walking, swimming, cycling, Zumba, yoga etc etc

In races you can stop for a breather, walk bits of it, it’s fine 💪👍😊

This may be a daft question, but what is eggs walking?

Oooh, there’s a plan! I love a plan! Am counting my blessings and that I get to run, as someone much wiser posted a couple of weeks ago.

I cant speak for the half marathon part of your query, but I would say you will do 10k easily by June. Im a decrepit old bird and I did 10k by mistake less than halfway through the 10k plan (furthest before that was 8k). Logically, you should be able to achieve the rest by October - what else are rest days for 😂

Decrepit? I don't think so!!

You mean it's normal for teeth to fall out and limbs to collapse every morning ;)

Yes it is possible 😁 start with ju-ju- 10k plan, then think about training for the half after. I only graduated the c25k in December and today completed 14k (8.6 miles), please listen to your body throughout, if you need to take time out of training then take it as the half can completed with run/walk strategy xx enjoy 😊

Oh well done! Thats impressive! My aim would be to run it but you are right, there is always the run/walk option- and sometimes my walking is faster than my running 😂😂

In all honesty , it doesn’t matter how we get there, walk, run/walk or run, just as long as we cross that finish line 🏁😂

It better be realistic.......I graduated early March and am booked into the Birmingham half in october. A target was needed to keep me running and increasing distance. Target is to finish, I've put myself in the 3 hour plus wave and have no shame in walking bits of it 😂 We can do this!
