What I have just done is enter my first 10K event run, the 10K is my local annual Cumbernauld 10k which will be held on Sunday September 3rd, I feel a little nervous about this run although unlike a marathon I don't really need to train for it, I have already ran 33/10Ks and will continue to run a 10K as part of my midweek run on a Wednesday, however, I have never ran a run with what they call a "chip." that will be a first.
What have I done? : What I have just done is... - Bridge to 10K
What have I done?
Youβll enjoy it AlMorr, the atmosphere will be good. MrD and I did a 6km run Iβm Madeira at Xmas time with the chip. 3000 people in it. Youβll lap it up. π
Well done on that 6K run in Madeira at Christmas with 3000 people in it, I think at the most 500 people will be running the 10K I will be running in September, 3K is run on the same course that I run all my runs, other parts is run on closed roads, there is a slight hill at around 4K to go, it's not steep but after running 6 or 7K could slow me down a bit, I was a spectator at this event since before I even started with C25K, they have several pacers, from 45 to 75 minutes, I intend to run with the 70 minutes pacer as most of my 10K runs have been from 1:08:40 (PB) to around 75 minutes.
Go for it Al. I have only done one 10k race. The atmosphere pushed me to a PB! You will love it.π
Thanks BC66, this 10K begins and end's in a football stadium, I was in that stadium as a spectator in 2019 and as you say the atmosphere is excellent, as its Scotland all the runners are sent off at the start by a pipe band..
The only race Iβve ever done was a 10k Al, and I was really nervous, but ended up having a cracking time! And by September youβll have a lot more than 33 under your belt too. πππ
That's very exciting Al
Thanks Sola, I feel very excited but also a little nervous, I think that there will be a lot of runner's taking part who also run in one of the parkruns I go to, so they will recognise me.
Brilliant Al! You will enjoy it Iβm sure. The only 10k I have done was during the second lockdown which was a virtual 10k which was only little old me running within the lanes and farm tracks etc of my village. Iβm looking forward to the one Iβm doing in May as I am sure the atmosphere will be good. However before the lockdown I did a few 5k races ..race for life and Hereford running festival and I seem to remember the atmosphere was great.
You will smash it with all your running experience πππ
Congratulations Folkylass on all those race running events, I have ran two virtual London Vitality 10,000's over the last two years and intend to run my 3rd whenever I get a message from the organisers for 2023, if it's on, , by now over the last few years I have had a email , so far this year, nothing, I am wondering if the virtual version is on this year.
Oh yes I forgot about that one β¦I also did the virtual vitality 10,000 and like you got the medal and smashing t-shirt. I remember your photo with you wearing yours. Iβve been in touch like you with em and I am still waiting to hearππ
theyβve only just announced the actual event at the end of September Al. It has had to move because of the coronation.
That sounds like a lovely event Al, I think you'll love it!
So exciting! Running in an event is such fun. Well done you. Hope the bling is good?
Yay, go you AlMorr !You're already used to running with others at parkrun, and know you can do the distance, so I'm sure you'll have fun.
And, around mid-August, do look out for the September events post over on Marathon so we can give you a pompom cheer. π
I will do that in August Cmoi, tell whoever is doing the weekend September event pom poms about the run I will be doing as that 10K will be my first event race on Sunday September 3rd.
Go you Al..they are fun..long enough to get into but not long enough to get tired...just don't forget your fish....( to go with the chip.) Xx
Yes I know Oldfloss about that chip, but that's not about fish and that kind of chipπ, this kind of chip is a running timing system that is on your pin number, it used to be on a runners shoes, but who knows after the run I might eat a fish supper with chips.
How exciting!!! I think youβll love it. The atmosphere running with so many others is really special.
The races that Iβve done have had the timing chip stuck to the reverse of my race number. Chips for eating at the finish would be an excellent reward though!
oooh what fun! Sounds perfect ππ
Hopefully the chip will be on the reverse of your running number. The shoe chips can be a bit fiddly I find. At the end of the run when youβre tired they can be impossible π. The organisers want the chips back so will help you take it off if youβre too stiff to bend down post race. Maybe thatβs just me βΊοΈ
Thanks for that information misswobble, there are some big event races like the Great North Run and Scottish Run, London Marathon etc that competitors collect their bib and chip number during the week running up to the race on Sunday, but in smaller events like the one I am going to the runners can collect the bib within 90/30 minutes of the run start, if I have a problem with my bib/chip I am sure someone will be there to help me get it on and off after the run.
Sounds great AlMorr , you will love it and it will be a piece of cake for you with all the 10k runs youβve already done πββοΈππ
How exciting! I've only ever done two 10k races but they were virtual (the vitality1000) so no different to just doing any other 10k! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun π
You will smash it AlMorr, of that I am sure π
Ooh way to go Al! Well done on biting the bullet and enter your local 10k πππ I'm sure you will enjoy it and you know you can do the distance, no bother.
I have thought about entering my local 10k race but never been brave (or crazy enough π€ͺ ) and worry about making any cutoff
"Biting the bullet", I like that quote Birdlady64, it's high time that I entered a official event run, the run starts and ends in a football stadium only 2 kilometers from where I live, I was a spectator there last year and several runners who recognised me from parkrun were running saw me and shouted as they passed 'you should be running, not spectating' I called back saying "next year" so I have kept my promise and will be running on the 3rd September. ,
Brilliant Al! How exciting!
Indeed LottieMW, I cannot walk on around 5K of this course as there are no pavements, there is a pavement on the first K and the last 4 kilometers with about two kilometers around the loch that I do my walking, running and cycling in the summer months. I will do several practice runs on the traffic free pavement parts over the next few months to let me get familiar with the course
That's fantastic! Well done Al. It should be something to look forward to and will be a great experience.
Thanks Freecloud, I am looking forward to it, still 5 months away, I don't intend to run more than 10K until at least after that event race on September 3rd, after that maybe 10 miles or even another half marathon, since I started running autumn is the season that I have had personal bests and ran my longest runs.
Super Al Morr going for it πππ it will be a fabulous experience for you mate π
this is brilliant Al! Hope you get good π πππ½
Brilliant Al, Iβm sure youβll love your first official race. Chip time is so much fairer too.
Itβs a good idea for your first race to be at a distance you are happy with too.
Well done Al. An "event" is definitely an experience to have at least once.
I'll definitely have a read of that race report once we get to September!
