Today's the day folks and I am super excited to be setting off on my journey. I headed out late morning and once the breathing settled, I felt absolutely brilliant. For a brief moment I thought about throwing caution to the winds and going for a 10K to get my journey up the country off to a good start. Common sense prevailed though since I am coming back from injury so I decided that 7k would have me running for an hour, which would do just fine for today!
It was a corker. I did my lovely slow run along the canal passing cyclists, a few women pushing prams and quite a few runners. No nods and smiles today from my fellow runners - they all had their PB faces on and every one of them charged past looking grim and determined. I, on the other hand, was smiling, smug and delighted with myself
So that's me clocked up my first mileage - 7k translates into 4.35 miles. Doesn't sound nearly as good, does it? I'm going to have to convert over to miles as I'm not happy with hanging short of a round number! A lunch time walk tomorrow I think... Only 869.65 miles to go! :)

My tent is 264 feet from yours for night one... so keep the noise down after midnight! ๐คฃ
Great run... we are on our way and the numbers will soon add up to impressive totals! Iโm running by time, so my figures will be very strange for a while!
How funny - I'm going to have to check up on you now. It just so happens that a 60 minute run gives me a round figure in K's. Pop over for a cuppa later if you like? At least the field is next to a quiet road so we should be able to get a good night's sleep.
Milk no sugar! I also have to do a self covid test John Bishop style from an earlier post, so will be popping down the off license if you need anything.
Congratulations on starting Lejog 6, good start for you, I notice that you are only camping 264 feet away from UNM, so no loud music after midnight, he needs a good night's sleep for his run tomorrow and so do you, good luck for your running and walking to John O Groats.
How fantastic - it sounds like you have really found your pace and are running comfortably again. This is such good news! I love the way you are thinking about the LeJog as a real journey. There ought to be a way of getting a virtual reality background for your runs!
I can see where I'm meant to be using the satellite map but I don't know how to do collages with photos the way some of the others do. I shall screen shot the next one and see if I can upload it.
Isn't it wonderful when the exercises work! Someone said to me that I would come back stronger from injury and it's true. We learn such a lot from being injured ๐ the hard way!
Well done Fionamags on the start of your adventure ๐
I love the idea of the grim faced runners and you happy and smiling. I've just got back and amazingly most of my fellow runners were happy to nod a quick hello.
Wish I could transpose my good run from yesterday but have had to settle for a weedy start - a 3k amble with dog. May have to go out again this pm as that only amounts to 1 full mile!! ๐คจ
Cheers. I'm floundering around seemingly incapable of even setting up my bib and making a proper mess of things so am very impressed that you have run and uploaded your data so slickly! I thought 'cos I used Strava the 'evidence' would be easy to upload but that too has stumped me.
Maybe I should try again after a restorative dog walk - or a glass of wine!
I had a false summit - I only realised after emailing the organisers that I'd been trying to upload to LeJog 5 where I found another Fiona with the same surname as me! She had 70 odd miles next to her name so she must have a bit of a head start on us...
Clicking on the link on the email seems to take you to LeJoG 5's map. So go up to the top of the page where it says 'maps' and select LeJog and then LeJog 6 then you'll be good to go!
I emailed them and they sent me the completed bib within a few hours. I was so excited to get it but had to ask for a correction as theyโd used my name rather than alias. All this was at 11.30ish last night when all wise runners should be in bed... but I received the amended one within minutes. Lord knows how long the many dutiful customer servants have been chained to their desk setting up bibs - or maybe... they are actually re-purposed โgremlinsโ since so many folk in this site are throwing them off with their positivity!! ๐
Good luck... see you en route!
Just bracing myself for soggy cold run... ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฆ
Good luck! I think you're right - the gremlins have set up camp at LeJog headquarters!!!
Woo-hooooooooo! Adore this. Go go gooooooo. I work in miles all the time so this is good for me to understand. A really positive start and platform for you!! Enjoy the journey ahead one step at a time. Can't wait to cheer you all the way ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐๐๐
What a great run to kick off your travels up the country, welcome aboard the virtual world of le jogging ๐ . Itโs amazing how little by little the miles clock up, enjoy
Sorry Fionamags for late reply, notification went to junk, yes lejog 5, Iโm just past Exeter, it's encouraging me to go out and walk more although not having a dog ๐ฉ I havenโt clocked up miles every day. Hope your first week has gone well, youโll be wondering if youโll ever get off the A30 ๐ฅด๐ค
Yes they could have put a bit more effort into the route.... I'm on the Penzance bypass at the moment. ๐คฏ
I don't have a dog either and with full time home working its a bit of a struggle getting out for a walk.... But i should meet this week's target if I brave the forecasted torrential rain tomorrow.
Yay, go you. Sounds like an excellent run to start you off ๐ enjoy it, I'm having lots of fun, it gets quite addictive seeing where you are at the end of every day
I just did a couple of short walks, Think i made it to the visitor centre ice cream van! I cannot get my vest to work. Well done you ๐ I am still pleased I signed up .
