8 mile...a running shoe send off

Good morning runners!

Today I got a notification that my new running shoes are on the way 😁 so today was my last run in my Nike's that have served me well since I started c25k a few months back. Those boys went out in some style! My target 10k got smashed with a 2nd best time and I still had plenty in the tank so just kept on going! Managed a new distance PB of 8 miles and had some left in me, was barely breathing hard when I slowed to a cool down walk.

It took coach Dyer to get me out of bed at 6am but once I was dressed Coach Bennett guided me round 10k with my 90s rap selection on random play. Coach D returned for the last couple of K to motivate me home in his own inimitable style 🀣 "tired treacle? Shut it! RUN!" The thought to continue on for 10 miles briefly danced around my brain but no I thought I'd save that target for 2021.

Splits I was pleased, didn't once drop over 10 min per mile, best being 8.58 and slowest being 9.54, didn't even let the slopes slow me down.

The knee held up but niggled from 5k onward more annoying than painful, hurt most on the up hills.

All in all a very pleasing run which I enjoyed, the routes getting a bit samey now need some new ones in the new year to mix it up.

Good luck all running today, have a good Xmas Eve!

What a fantastic distance to run the last with those shoes, and a great time. Saving 10miles for 2021 is a brilliant idea. I hope the knee niggles subside. Merry Christmas and Happy running πŸ€—

That is an epic distance-what a way to send off the old shoes! You are well on your way to training for some serious distance races when they open up again. Well done- have a great Christmas!

Thanks Bambi, think I'm gonna train up to 10 miles and that's probably as far as I could imagine me going... But who knows, 10 minutes seemed impossible not long back 🀣

A merry Christmas to you and yours x

Blimey, you smashed that today! Made me laugh your comment about 10 mins seemed a long time 🀣 you've come a long way, very quickly, dont think you'll be stopping at 10 miles somehow πŸ€” hope your knee will be ok, post run, i'm a little stiff from yesterdays run/swim!!! 🀣Happy christmas. πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸŽ„

Well done! There’s a path from ladgate opposite the end of saltersgill avenue that takes you up to fairy dell. Turn right to go under the a174 and you’re there. Gorgeous in there.

Yeah I go up there a lot, usually if I'm walking to Tesco 🀣 pretty good for bike riding too but some of those hills for running 😳? 🀣 I bet they hurt. Yeah some good options for extending routes round there and Colby Newham though πŸ‘πŸ»

Have a lovely Xmas Tasha x

Woahhh! Longest run yet, nice one matey πŸ‘πŸ» You’re certainly getting some mileage in those legs, very impressive. You’ll be flying once you have those new trainers on! I know the niggling knee feeling.. I get that, then it disappears for a bit then is back.. just annoying and always on an uphill/downhill stretch. New routes for the new year sounds like a good plan πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼 Happy Christmas!! Hope the beer stocks are plentiful 🍺 you’ve earned a few today with that run.

Ended up with bad knee pain all night and had to strap it up all day today πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ was hoping to test the new kicks tomorrow or day after but not looking likely now. Bloody knee! 🀬

Apart from that though Xmas (my first ever one at home 🀣) has been brilliant, dinner was awesome and kids have been no bother at all. Pots all done and put away, desserts in fridge and loads of booze flowing! 😁😁😁

Hope everybody's is going great too, well done to those who got out and ran today! πŸ’ͺ🏻
