Drinks to 10k

How far can I go without water?

I’ve got to 7k without it and it’s getting cooler and wetter - shall I not bother?

TIA

Alan

I don’t bother with runs of 10k and under. Hydrate well not only on run days.

Good question. If you feel you need to carry water on a 10k then do so. It certainly isn't an issue.

Hydrate well during the week and if you do run 10k without water make sure you hydrate well after.

Also recommend a chocolate muffin for after 🤣😍

I, too, don’t bother with drinks or fuel up to 10k - unless really really hot (when I probably wouldn’t run anyway), but for longer runs I take water, and for much longer ones I take jelly babies too. 😀

I don’t carry a water bottle, hydrate properly and you shouldn’t need one. I carried a small one when I began C25k but holding it affects your form. I’ve completed 10k and even managed 13k without a carrying water. I suppose if it’s a hot day it would be different but the weathers cooler at the moment so I wouldn’t personally.

I’m usually good for an hour in warm weather and 90 minutes if it’s nice and cool, I don’t know where my limits are, nor do I want to find out as dehydration can be dangerous. I take water if I’m going to be running more than an hour... but I don’t always carry it with me. I like to run laps or figure 8 routes so my car can act as my refreshment station.

We are all different though, some people need water sooner than others, and obviously this partly depends on how good your hydration routine is going into that run.

Good idea! Thanks

I don't carry water for 10k , however , I have just bought this Running belt for longer runs but have not yet used it .

I did my 60 min without water yesterday but I need to chew some gum to avoid my mouth and throat from getting too dry. I also have one of those belts and I will start taking it out with me when I go on longer runs, just in case. But going into autumn, it's probably less of an issue unless you're going to run for hours.

On a normal day, I don't take water for less than 90 min, for longer I take an hydration vest (carrying a water bottle in my hand or a belt doesn't work for me). If it's warm, I probably would take water for anything above an hour, less if it's very warm. But I usually drink a lot during the day, so I think it depends on the person. Also be careful with defining the needs based on distance, someone's 10k might be the same effort than my 5k :)

I always carry water and I’m only doing 5K. I can’t run without it as my mouth gets dry and I tend to have an asthmatic cough at times too. I’m so used to running with water I don’t see the point to running without. That’s just me, everybody on here seems to do without it.

I can go up to 1hr 30min without water but everyone is different. I always have a lot to drink immediately before and after my run. Listen to your body, find what works well for you. Happy running 🤗

So many different thoughts here. I've run lots of HM's without any water and you can run far without. Keeping hydrated every day is crucial. Some people take water for a sip or emergencies (cuts, flies in the eye etc) but it's very much a personal choice 😁

Everyone has a different range but heat affects everyone. I use water if running for more than an hour in ordinary conditions or more than 30 minutes if it’s hot. If you do take water, I would recommend using either a running belt that takes water bottles, or a hydration vest/backpack, you don’t want to be carrying a bottle in your hand. If you’ve been ok to 7k so far you are probably ok to go a bit further as it’s getting cooler.
