Good news today, physio said injury is almost healed now I just have to build up my strength and hopefully in 3 weeks should get the all clear to start running again. For those of you that are experienced in recovery plans any suggestions for how I should get back into it. No running now for 9 weeks. I’m doing Pilates plus the physios exercises but fitness has deteriorated.

A lot depends on your running mileage before your injury and your particular injury. Any time I’ve come back from a longish spell on the IC I’ve started back with a run/walk of anywhere from 10 minutes to 20 just to “test” how my body feels. Then build up from there.

You could also try asking your physio who will hopefully be able to give you specific advice about your return. The Pilates will have helped a lot 🙂

Glad you are on the mend. As Irishprincess says, be led by your physio. No rush to get back to long runs then further injury - slow sure build up must be best. Take care 🤗

Good news indeed! If it helps, I was on the IC for 6 weeks and didn't have to repeat the programme. I started with some very slow, short runs initially and built up in my own way. With a gap of 9 weeks you might get away with that approach. I didn't feel I needed a formal programme again, but it might be that going back to the middle weeks of the programme suits you.

I have kept up the physio exercises permanently and have built them into an exercise plan, so investing in exercise is a good plan.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. Sounds like you might manage a few experimental short runs of5 minute stints to begin with?

All good advice thank you, I will definitely speak to physio, don’t want to undo all his hard work (and mine!!)

Hello Phdgranny,

Good to hear your recovery is going well 😃. Good advice from others here, you’ll soon recover your fitness once you start to get out regularly again, easy does it 🤗
