I'm getting there 😊

Still trying to practice slow running to get more distance. Any way went out for a short run today as at parkrun tomorrow. Came in and managed to keep in HR zone 3 for a bit of it which I've never managed. So I'm finally getting somewhere and will keep going . Have a great weekend. 😊😊

well done. What's funny is that there is nearly no zone 4!

Most of the zone 5 stuff was probably actually z4 but because of the daft 220-age calc its come out that way. I adjusted my max HR based on what I was actually doing and it now means very little is in z5 which is accurate for me.

oh right, I always assume that the VO2max is actually based on you rather than that formula. my watch doesnt give me that info so one less thing to worry about!

Vo2 and HR are very different, that's just HR zones.

Yes Vo2 is based on how well you are getting oxygen into your muscles πŸ‘πŸ»

yes sorry, major apologies, I meant HR zones but was also wondering about VO2max and got in a tangle. I can see my heart rate after but not the zoning. it would be fun one day to go to a lab where they look at running technique and all your stats. For now, I just need to rebuild :-)

Yes, I'm contemplating doing just that myself but it's quite the investment. It would be a fun, if tiring experiment though. πŸ‘πŸ»

Just thinking that run is the only flat run I do apart from an incline near the end and that's when it's jumped from zone 3 and straight to zone 5😊

That's great, you will see benefits over time πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

Well done, slower certainly means you can run for longer, my hr doesn’t seem to get above 148 bpm now so i guess we are slow enough

You’re doing better than I am with this... I set my watch to keep me in zone 3, and my wrist vibrates that much I’m in danger of RSI!

Great job.

I had already tried with the heart rate thing but like you my wrist was on constant vibrate so turned it off. Just trying to pace with breathing but it's taking a while 😊

My zones seem more accurate since modifying manually my max HR based on what the watch has measured historically

So you thing the zones already in the watch are wrong 😊

Garmin default max HR is 220 - age but the wrist HR was commonly above that value so I matched my max HR to the highest wrist HR value.

Its not rocket science!

The 220-age calculation is a bit like the BMI calculation in that it's a blunt instrument you can use as a guide.

Looks interesting 🧐 using science to help you. What type of heart rate monitor do you use? Is this something you’ve recently started or have you always worn one? Good luck with your 5k run tomorrow πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

I bought a garmin forerunner 35 a few months back . It can do a lot more than what I use it for 😊

Well done. I need to learn that! I’m nearly always in the red zone - I find it hard not to just β€˜go for it’!! It’s because I run alone so rarely test if I can talk πŸ˜†

You managed zone 3 for more than half of your run so great job...I have no idea what my heart rates is so have no idea but it's clearly good so well done anyway πŸ˜‰

It sounds stupid but I'm finding it hard to slow down to run for longer. I'm not stressing about it. It will take as long as it takes. 😊😊

Doesn't sound daft to me, I'm guilty of the same thing...I hear the time at each K and think doh! Then try to slow down for the next one, sometimes manage but often unsuccessfully. Mind you it does happen naturally passed 7K or so!

Think I'm gonna have to do what you're doing and figure out a way forward if I want to increase to 10 miles.

Let me know when you've figured it out πŸ‘πŸ€”
