Iβve just been out and done my first 5k in quite a while. But boy....π₯΅...it was not easy!! I got the attire completely wrong π¬! A very light hoody (but a hoody all the same! What was I thinking? π π π), leggings with shorts over the top for the convenience of pockets (thought I was smart with that one! ππ€« π€£) and well ....it was toughπ€ͺ!
I totally underestimated the heat π₯π₯ , as it looked really dull, as though it could pour down at any minute. I stupidly thought Iβd go out and enjoy a bit of a cool breeze. But cool breeze? π€£π€£...was non existent...it just kept getting hotter and hotterπ₯βοΈπ₯βοΈπ₯βοΈ! By the time I was half-way, I was praying for Storm Helena (I think thatβs her name and I hear sheβs on the wayπ€) to βstop messing aboutβ, being on your way π and come right now!! π₯΅ππ½βοΈ
And...you can probably tell...my prayers were not answered!π I thankfully had some good guided running that just kept me going. I certainly wasnβt going to get home any sooner, so I just had to accept that itβs simply going to be a tough run today π¬...and Iβll learn from it!! π€¨π€£π€£
A slow 5k, but understandable, given the length of time since Iβve run that far and the glorious weather π....that I did not order ππ..π€£!!
Well itβs done! βStorm Helena...well YOU can just forget it now! That prayerβs off...so there!π And I can go and cool down in the shower now anyway π!
Hey Fab - someone once told me, when choosing your running gear, dress as if itβs 5-6 degrees warmer than it actually is. You might feel the chill initially, but doesnβt last long and youβll be glad later! πͺπ₯΅
Great run and a good lesson to learn. My rule of thumb is over 7deg - lined shorts and tshirt, over 15deg, thin shorts and racer back top. Happy running π€
I could so easily have worn a racer back! π₯΄βΊοΈβΊοΈ. I dont usually wear shorts at all. I feel better in leggings, but I wish I ditch one of them today and shorts only would have been a dream!!...Still learning...the hard way sometimes π!! β€οΈ
I'm really enjoying the journey. I have set myself my own weekly goal to achieve. It is manageable and it means that I get out of the house. Its just a pity we are not in Cornwall. Landlocked Nottinghamshire doesn't have the same appeal some how.
πI know. It would be nice to be on tour in real life! Glad youβre having a great time too! β€οΈ
Gosh, I share the feeling of being so hot all the time at the moment - feel I'm going to spontaneously combust π₯΅π. ' Think it's my age π. I admire you completely π
Oh thanks so much Delly-dot!! I think Iβm dealing with the onboard central heating system too. I definitely got caught out thinking it was going to be a bit chilly out there π. But....we can do it!!ππ€β€οΈ
Well done Fab for both the 5k and coping with the sweltering conditions!! When I ran on Saturday I was actually cold on my warm up walk... needless to say I wasn't cold by the end of the run π it's so hard getting it right some times but you cracked on anyway π
Thanks so much Mum22boys!! π€ Yesterday it was absolutely pouring down with rain and it looked like it was about to do the same at any point, but of course it didnβt! π! I didnβt give it enough thought really, just upped and went! But... Iβll know better next time. Layers at least π€!! β€οΈ
Faberoonie!!! Love it π you conquered it however tough it was. These runs are the hard yards and just think how before you may not have bitten down on the gumshield and carried on!! I always dress under as once you run you get a bit hotter and 5k isn't so long if it does get nippy. This run is done, in the book and it's pushed you further along. Great stuff! Rest up and then get that Fabulous smile back on for the next adventure π
Thanks so much GTFC!! π€π€ Yes, Iβll certainly be less trusting of a little darkness in the sky! π
I was still smiling, thatβs what keeps me going. Admittedly, it is based on my own misjudgment. But, it certainly keeps running like a continuous learning adventure. I can certainly happily laugh at myself and the things I do!! π₯΄ππ Iβm a runner!! ππ½πβ€οΈ
Thanks so much Roxdog!! π€ Talk about deceiving though. I would have sworn it was going to rain and thought Iβd just go for it and hopefully get back before it came down too heavy!! In the end it was me that case down too heavy!! π€£π€£β€οΈ
In would really love to hear how people perform in the heat. Back in May here it was 22deg and I was putting in a pace of 6:30 per km over 5/6/7 k. I ran all the way through to mid July when I damaged a toe and had 4 weeks off. I catch the dawn at the moment and am running a tiring 7mins per k. Some of that will be lost fitness but I would like to know from others how they find a 10 degree change effects them please.
Iβm building back up to regular running at the moment, but Iβm very much a free runner (As in I know Iβm not a fast runner βΊοΈ), so whilst my pace will have been affected, I donβt really track or pay attention to my pace in general. Unless something outstanding happens of course (as in, fast for me) and I notice it at the end. That hasnβt happened yet π. I was running an average of around 8:07 yesterday. Iβm usually in the mid-low 7βs for average pace. So definitely a slow run. πβ€οΈ
Oh I donβt half agree Fab! I love running in the rain, to the extent that Iβll reschedule my runs especially! I ran yesterday morning, fully expecting the wind to have dropped and for it to feel fresher. Nope. It was still windy, but a warm wind, and I was surprised at how humid it was. π₯΅ I thought on the fly and switched my run from (Not) PR to a slow 6k trail/hill run.
So yes I know exactly where youβre coming from! π¦π¦π¦ Rain dance for our next runs! π
