Can’t wait for #runlejog4 !!

Ok, I’m a runner newbie, recent C25k graduate 🏅, and I’ve signed up and am really excited about Monday’s start of the #runlejog4 EndToEnd challenge.

As a runner newbie 🐢, I knew there is no way of me finishing this race in a year! But just the thought of virtually crossing the country is so enticing! 🇬🇧

A perfect blend of a virtual and physical experience, meshed up in a running activity, how good can it get? 👩‍💻🏃🏼‍♀️

And I’m sure that in our post/intra-pandemic 🦠 world we’ll have to resort to more of these virtual/physical mash-ups, of which this one is just a delightful example.

So I signed up knowing I would never get that T-shirt or that medal 👕 . (But I’m sure I will feel like I deserved one 😂)

And I did some calculations, and currently continuing to run as I do, I’d get to .... Worcester. Yes, I am really slow and leave two days recuperation between runs, but this works well for my fitness levels and the health of knees, limbs and back. And don’t knock Worcester!

Now my home town is ca 70 miles further, and on the route (!!!) which thus gives me a convenient stretch target. Will I be able to increase my runs? Can I either increase to running every 2nd day, or increase to a distance of 30% higher? This would allow me to achieve running from Lands End to my own hometown?

( Have I said this would also be my first ever official running race! This running toddler hasn’t even experienced parkruns yet!)

We’ll have to see how far I get. For everyone else signed up: Enjoy and Good luck! I’m sure you all will be ahead of me as I will be the tail runner, and very much enjoying herself whilst watching everyone go go go!

Good luck for your runlejog4, you can walk as well, so if you don't run too far or only run short distances, go a long or several short walks each day, that will gradually add up through the months.

Ahhh yes, I haven’t even calculated any walks in! Thanks! 🙏

Great that you’re running it too CBDB ! Don’t forget you can include walks too as well as runs, that’s what I intend to do. Exciting isn’t it? 👏👏👏

Indeed it is! Can’t wait! And thanks for such great inspiration from your own running journey! 🙏 (I now fancy getting the app pic collage 🖼 , as I see how useful it would be on HU where you can ever only post one image!)

Oh you’re very welcome. It’s such a wonderful addition to my life, and all these virtual events have gone a long way towards making up for the massive hole in my life that is Parkrun and PR tourism where I’ve made loads of actual running buddies!

Definitely get pic collage, it’s fun!

Good luck next week! See you en route. 😀👍🎉

You can do it and you will get that medal and tshirt. Remember you can add in tracked walks as well as i will be doing when walking the dog. Good luck 👍

Good thought. Thx.

And I think I will stay with Runkeeper which has a “pocket record” function, e.g. it records all runs/walks at a basic level even without you having to click on START.

According to their Facebook group, the data entry on the web now includes upload of evidence, so theoretically I should be able to simply screen shot runkeeper and upload. I will ask and confirm if that is ok with them, as I could not find anyone asking this question.

I don't use Strava but on the LEJoG 3 map, there is an option to upload evidence when you log your miles. I just add a screenshot from the activity on mapmyrun. It's worked so far and I'm assuming it will be the same for LEJoG 4 too.

Good luck when you start next week, you can definitely make it. I run 3 times a week but am walking every day, only around 3 miles but the combination will mean I'll make it John o Groats by the 12 month deadline. If I can do it, you can too and we'll all be cheering you on from the sidelines 🍀🥳

Cheers. Yes, I think i should be able to upload runkeeper screenshot.

Walking 3 miles per day ... in addition to running... that might be too much for me, but we’ll see. I do some (gentle but not gentle for me) fitness/strength exercises on my off days as well, that I don’t want to stop.

I think I’d be proud of myself to make it halfway. And then by next year, I hope to be so much fitter....

Thanks so much, see you on the run!

Oh no, I only walk once a day, for about an hour but you wouldn't need to do that if it was too much. Could you calculate a best guess of how many miles you could cover from running and then with what's left, see how far you'd need to go if you walked say, twice a week? It's just a thought but could be something to consider if you wanted to?!

Good luck though 🍀

Oh yes . I was just thinking about this the other day the amount of things that go on charge. Phone, garmin, earphones, toothbrush, epilator 🤣

I’d have to sacrifice the last 2 items to make sure my running wasn’t affected! 🤣

Love your enthusiasm and your planning......look forward to "running" with you :-)

I've just signed up for this - no idea if I will manage to do it in the time but hopefully with a combination of running and walking I will get there.

Thank you for your post as without it I wouldn't have known about this.

Have you seen this post healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... that tries to list everyone on the 10k community that has signed up? It will help keep us motivating each other. So if you want to be listed, reply to their post confirming you’ve signed up. (Apologies if you have already, couldn’t see it)
