Ive just started getting back into training after a few weeks break after my Race for Life 5K in June due to the heat. I’ve signed up for my first 10K which is the Beachy Head one and I’m petrified as I’ve never been someone who’s a natural runner 🏃🏼♀️ Last week I had a horrible run which really knocked my confidence but yesterday’s one restored my confidence a bit. Does everyone have ugly runs where they question why they’ve signed up for a race?
Thanks,
Laura X

Hi Blondie187 you are not alone with nerves about signing up for a race..
No need to be really.. if you are following a training plan that will see you through the distance
I have of done 1 race and that was a local 10k. I was nervous right up till the gun went ... soon got into my running rhythm and enjoyed the race ..
You will be just fine I am sure. Oh the bad runs just happen don't sweat it they all count and make you stronger 😁
I have never signed up for a race, but have run several 10ks since completing ju-ju’s 10 is the Magic Number 10k training plan. Actually prefer the 10k distance to 5k now!
I have also had my fair share of ugly runs. Many. Pffft! But, par for the course when you are a runner. It cannot always be “Chariots of Fire”. 😂 The good runs always make up for the uuufgh pffft ones, I believe.
Beachy Head is in October, right? Plenty of time to train for it! You will be fine. Never let the bad runs put you off - those are the ones that build mental stamina and running legs.
I had two in a row this weekend but tonight was fab! I’ve kind of got used to the fact that there will be bad runs and they make the good ones sweeter!
Don’t be scared about 10k: it’s not as bad as c25k 👌🏽 Just follow the plan ☺️ ju- ju- is starting off a new plan now 👍🏽
Hi Laura and welcome. First of all, we are all natural runners, we were designed for it, but we've often forgotten how and are relearning. Secondly, seriously don't worry about so called bad runs: we all have them, including the professionals. There are so many factors that can affect how we run: what we've eaten; sleep; time of day; stress. I used to get horribly down about 'bad' runs when i was doing c25k, but now I know they are just one of those things and don't mean we're losing our grip or are sliding towards immobility. Often a run that starts bad eases and turns into a good run if we push through. Other times it just is what it is, and often the next run is really great. I think so called bad runs can also happen when your body is setting itself after hard work and is gearing up to make a leap of progress. Just take it easy, go steadily with your training and don't force yourself to do more than you are comfortable with. You will be fine.
Run ugly! Who cares! Just run and have fun Is not scary at all, it’s gonna be a blast.
Racing is really funny. Mass hysteria if you like. When you start running it makes you giggle 😁. Honestly, just go with it and enjoy it No hurry! Just relax and have a good time 💪😃👍🏃♀️
