Last run for a couple of weeks 😭

I’m not going to stress over it ( she says secretly stressing) but I have my steroid injection this afternoon and I have been quietly hoping that this will be the Holy Grail that will sort my hip pain out for good. As the day has got nearer I have had to keep telling myself it might not!! And not to be too disappointed if it doesn’t. It’s sent me on an up and down trajectory since last summer. Sometimes I’m quite optimistic and sometimes I burst into tears at the thought that I might have to give up the one sport I have actually ever enjoyed in my life.

I last ran on Wednesday and thought I would fit in one on Friday and Sunday too. But Friday I overslept after a particularly bad night and it was too hot for me when I woke up. And Saturday and Sunday my hip was really sore and it was also too stuffy and hot for me but today I woke and decided yes I would. I’d had dreadful twitchy legs all last night - took me ages to drop off... I was just going off and then there were kids outside screeching until gone 11 ( they were between 6-10 years old and there’s been a birthday party earlier). They were riding bikes and scooters up and down but seem unable to play without screaming. And I could not face shutting my windows last night- far too hot. Then when they shut up next doors dog started. Then someone let a load of fireworks off and the seagulls start up again. That’s the second lot of fireworks this week!!! But finally I’d dropped off.

So I woke and dressed and ate half a banana and off I went. Original plan as I left the house was “ just 5k” but as I got going and realised how thick the air was I adjusted that to “ just half hour”. This morning was the first time I have had to use my inhaler during a run. I usually do my preventer and reliever before I leave the house and that’s it but I’m glad I had it with me today.

I just ran down towards the Civic Centre, then along the River bank to Rock Park, and my original plan of going all around the Park was changed when I had to stop and use my inhaler, so I went halfway along the riverbank and then turned and came back through the side streets towards home. Stopping at 30 minutes and 3.5k. My legs feel much happier now and I got home just in time to do my 10 minute live Facebook session with Rachael ( my Pilates lady) which was releasing tension in neck and shoulders. Much needed for me this morning. Then I finished up with my stretches and shower and I’m feeling good now.

Still not looking forward to the jab, or the enforced no running but 🤞it does the trick. Oh and my daughter has just texted to saying she is making a cauliflower and green bean curry this morning and will bring some down later for me to save me standing and cooking if I’m sore. Bless her!!

Enjoy your running all you who are allowed 😳😭

I will keep my fingers crossed that it works for you too lovely 💕

They do have a reputation of being such a saviour - I’ve had a few friends who have had these injections in other areas such as shoulders and knees... they speak highly of them! 💕

Think positive 🤗 at times like this we need an off button for our heads don’t we!

Let us know how you get on with it all and stay connected..

Your running family have got you and are here ready to catch you 💕

And your daughter is a good un for doing that! Really thoughtful but I’m not a fan of curry so will pass 🤣🤣

Take care lovely x

I’ve had this jab in my elbow about 30 years and also jaw about 25 years ago and they both worked so fingers crossed

Oh dear, what a miserable time you’re having limberlou! I agree with you - it’s great that the children are playing outside but have they always been so noisy?! And so late! And don’t start me on fireworks 🤬 But I’m glad you managed to get out and do a run, even if it wasn’t what you’d planned to do. I hope this afternoon goes well and that you’re not too sore! Your daughter’s curry sounds delicious - enjoy!

I have no objection to kids playing and enjoying themselves but they just seem to scream all the time. It’s not laughing or shouting to each other - just screaming. If any of them were being murdered you’d never know to go and help you’d just think they were still playing.

I remember my mum used to go out if kids were too noisy and she say “ where do you live love?” “ down the end of that road there “ “ oh and what about you?” “ in the next estate”

Then she’d say “ well why don’t you sod off down there and annoy your own mother???” I can understand because my dad worked nights and would be trying to sleep but it makes me chuckle when I think about her

I love that limberlou! Not sure you’d get away with it these days!!

Probably get a mouthful of abuse from the kid and then mum or dad round to have a go afterwards. Whereas in my day, if I got told off by a neighbour, I’d get told off by mum too!!

Good luck with your injection, I hope it brings long term relief. Great little final run, well done. How lovely of your daughter, sounds delicious, enjoy🤗

Well done and I really hope the injection works. I also empathise about the inhaler. I am also an asthmatic and I have to say I take mine with me on every run. I get a bit panicky if I dont.

Lovely run to hold in your mind while you are recovering Limberlou. I hope it goes well and that you're back up and at 'em in no time! That daughter of yours knows how to treat a person - hand delivered, home cooked curry - what a treat when you don't have to cook it yourself. Take care and I'll be watching out for your update. xx

Good luck with the injection. Having been there I'm with you in spirit.

It can't be as bad as slogging through this heat, my gremlins have been particularly active before and during runs, b*****s sit in the shade, drinking Pimms and laughing at the lycra clad buddah me as I pass. Rest up, unlike I did, and 🤞🍀

🤞🏻it wasn’t too traumatic this afternoon and you get some relief. Running can wait. I’m very envious of your curry - I love cauliflower!!

It hurt more getting up onto the couch than the actual injection

She says it should start to feel better in 3 or 4 days and I can try a little 3k trot on Friday if I feel up to it. 😁😁😁😁

Oh, sorry you are having a rough time 😕, I really hope the injection goes ok and works 😊.

Hi lovely - hope all went well with your injection 💕

Well the injection was actually painless. It hurt more getting up and lying on the couch. Today it feels like some has kicked my bum cheek with football boots on.BUT my doc said give it 4 or so days and maybe try a little 3k run at weekend!!! So better than I’d originally thought. I can still go for gentle walks and do Pilates so that’s good

Anyone who runs in this heat particularly with injuries deserves a medal! Well done you. I had the steroid injections in my neck which was pretty gruesome but the difference was miraculous! Hope it’s the same for you.

Yeah the thought of having mine in my jaw was pretty grim but it was fine and so was the hip. Just hope it works as well as the jaw and elbow ones did. Both been fine since ( knocks on wood quickly)

Good run for you Limberlou, you took it slow and steady, that's the pace you are comfortable with, well done.

You do seem to live in a quiet neighbourhood with children running around and screaming at 11pm, dogs barking and even someone setting up fireworks which started the seagulls screeching, all that with your windows open because of the hot weather, after all that you had a good sleep and run in the morning, congratulations, good luck for your treatment.
