I have to start with an ooooops!!!

Got myself all geared up for an 8k on Friday last week...down by the canal, my fav place...everything was going well and I decided that, seeing as this is my 2nd attempt at 10k I might, if there was still enough in the tank, just carry on and go for 10k...all was going well until about 6k when it suddenly popped into my head that this run should only be a 5k, well that messed with my head straight away and the gremlins attacked me thick and fast...so I stopped because my head was suddenly not prepared for a long run...I turned off Strava, then thought about it for a moment, turned it back on, turned around and ran a bit further, passed a couple having a lovely stroll tgat I'd passed further up there and back.... they mustve been thinking they were witnessing some sort of running melt down because i stopped again, nope, I'd done for the day so I turned it off again, what am I doing, surely I can squeeze a bit more out? So I turned it back on and started running again back passed this couple who promptly stepped aside and started giving me a round of applause!!!!! This made me proper chuckle...I bet they feared for my sanity?!! Anyway, I carried on running over Bevlar bridge where my friend was in the shelter having a smoke, obviously he did his usual shout out "Keep going Bevlar!!!" So I had to carry on until I was out of sight of him so he didn't think I was a loser!! So, this run ended up being just over 7k...but what a higgeldy, piggeldy run??!! Backwards, forwards, can I, can't i??!! So I wasn't impressed with myself at all....anyway, due to my littlests birthday coming up, I didn't get to run again until yesterday...bring on Storm Gareth, who I might add is NOT going to beat me...so I got me gear on yesterday, did the school run, had a quick lurke on here and on strava where I spotted the ever inspirational and tireless ju-ju- well, some mornings that's all you need because she is one tough cookie, I commented on her morning activity and she cemented the fact that I would feel better when I'd been out...then the doorbell ran and it was Andy, my running postman...he looked at me and obviously knew what my plan was but said I ought to just hang on for half an hour to see if Gareth calmed down a bit...so that's what I did and as soon as the rain bated I plugged in my earphones, put on my new Garmin, which I already love, and off I went, just over to the park so that if I got soaked I hadn't far to drip home and I would just do a quick 3k, not part of the plan but that's what I thought I'd fit in before Gareth returned after his breakfast...

Everything felt good...great music in the form of the MummyCav playlist on Spotify, nobody but nobody was in the park, or so I thought...people must've been waiting in their cars for the exact same thing as me because within 2 minutes it was like crufts!!! Anyway, first lap round, there, on the bench at the side of me were a couple...only late teens I'd say, but they were 'doing it'...OMG, I didn't know where to look, so I put my foot down and sped passed them hoping that next lap they would've been as embarrassed as me, but no, they were still there...lap 2, lap 3 etc...in the end, I just ran up and down the same side of the park so i didn't have to see them...how embarrassing????? Anyway, after my trauma I managed a 5k....it took me 40 mins though, but running head first into 60mph winds took it's toll on my time and the fact that I was being forced oxygen up my nose and in my mouth at an alarming speed!!! So, this is my story so far this week...the couple were still there when I left the park, they must've been freezing, I tell ya, this running lark is full of surprises.....till next time.

Happy running my lovely friends xxx

Oh that’s so funny MC! The couple .... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well done for your stop/start run. The moment I stop, it’s all over for me. If I decide to run again I go tech free as somehow it doesn’t count (I know, I know .... 🙄)

And running with Gareth is something else isn’t it? He accompanied me yesterday. I think it’s time he bogged off now. 💦💨💨💦

I know CC....can you believe what some people get up to, irregardless of their audience?! I’m sure I wasn’t the only one to pass them...but I think I was the only one who passed more than once!! 😂😂😂....and of course it counts...just because it not in the same run doesn’t mean you haven’t done it?! Stop that....you’ve covered the mileage so it needs banking. Gareth is still here today, blowing my daffodils sideways! He’s def overstaying his welcome!! X

I had a run the other day that was so awful that I gave up and immediately pressed stop and delete on my Garmin. Later I laughed to myself at how far we have come. Just a few months ago I couldn’t run for 60 seconds and now I was deleting a three mile run as though it was nothing, because it was rubbish 😂😂

Oh to be young and not have anywhere else to go buy a freezing park bench surrounded by mad joggers and dog walkers 🤣🤣

I know E27M14 ...how daft is that?! How far we’ve come ought to be a mantra written in black and white x

How dare he mess with your daffs. Enough now Gareth, just go. 👋 👋

Well done 😁👍😃🏃‍♀️ Yeah the weather’s a bit crap but once you get warmed up it’s ok int it 😃

I was surprised how many folks were out and about “in this weather” - apart from just the usual dog walkers that is 🙂

Yeah Ju-Ju 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️ Leading from the front as ever 😃

MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to misswobble

Thanks misswobble , the dog walkers are hardcore aren’t they?! Not at the side of me yesterday though! I was proper hard....jumping over puddles, sliding on the mud, crunching over twigs and leaping over branches...it was like a steeple chase!!

Ju-ju is amazing....just wish she knew it x

The start/stop/start was me on my treadmill last night, berating myself for not delaying supper and getting outside for my run but finally got through the run with a few little walks, some sprints, and a Thank God that is done!

Running by that couple lap after lap must've been so awkward. I'm amazed what people are willing to do in public 😲 - "Get a room!" 😂 but we were all young (and foolish) once - well maybe not that foolish!

I'm glad you got out and used your lovely new Garmin! She's pretty 😍. Which one is it?

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

Some runs are just like that aren’t they? I soooooo wanted to carry on but there was a glitch between my head and my legs! Never mind, on to the next one eh?!

That was EXACTLY my thoughts “get a room!!” At least they’d have been warmer!! 🤔😂😂

My lovey Garmin is a forerunner 220...it was a proper bargain...new, in box, 45 quid...from shpock x

Sweet! I have a really basic Forerunner 10 that I love and fit my budget when I bought it but wished it downloaded to Garmin Connect automatically. I just end up not really using Garmin connect and just stick with Runkeeper to track my runs. I love having the data about pace and distance on my wrist though for a quick easy check while running. It does what I need it to do and it is bright pink which makes me happy 😍. Enjoy your Garmin and your next run!

I must admit...I'm.looking forward to my next run x

Ooh...great run reports MummyCav, kudos to you for both those runs! 😊

Its brilliant that you are still willing to get out there, knowing you may get a soaking and in those high winds! 💪

Lovely to read and you have given me a much needed running fix, as yet again a non-running day for me. I can't breath through my nose which is really putting me off even trying...😐

Your new Garmin is swish!💜 Good luck with your next run.😊xxxx

MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Thank you Bluebirdrunner , you have given me running fixes in the past so it’s only fair I return the favour 😉...yesterday’s run was the 5k that I should’ve done on Friday...even though I ran more on Friday it felt like I’d veered off on a tangent?! Sounds like running nonsense I know but it makes for a bit of entertainment and I have def had some entertaining runs along the way!!!

I love my garmin and it matches my lovely trainers...double bonus!!

You def can’t go out when you can’t breathe properly, especially as it is at the moment...stay in and enjoy running vicariously through us, your running friends xxx I am more than happy for you to join me anytime xxx

Brilliant! 🤣🤣🤣

Better them keeping to themselves at least than be flashed at by doggers in laybys hiding the entrance to a footpath... really didn't know where to put myself there!! 🤣🤣

Glad you got out regardless. I'm overdue for a run, other commitments having got in the way plus the awful weather... tonight hopefully...

Oh my goodness?!! We have an area near the motorway that’s famous for dogging....I’m so thankful that I don’t have to run anywhere near there, there’s even a mobile caravan serving coffee, tea and sandwiches, not saying that’s who it’s for but it’s convenient for them on these cold nights 😂😂😂

Good luck at getting out there, it’s still windy up here so if it’s the same where you are, put a buff on xx

I had no idea that all these x-rated occurrences were so common! I am shocked. Really shocked. And also laughing quite a lot, mummycav! I'm fighting off a cold and I'd have trouble running around the room, so this has cheered me right up.

I was shocked too...where I realised that there was more going on than I’d hoped when I saw the girl straddled...how funny, at their age the last thing on their minds was the cold, but after the initial shock, I just thought how cold they must be!!! Glad it’s cheered you up grumpyoldgirl , this forum is magic xx

They probably thought nobody else would be out in that weather. Although I recall many years ago a young couple clearly get jiggy just yards from us on a very crowded beach, fondly imagining nobody knew what they were up to cos they were under a (small) towel 😂

You kept going even though you stopped Strava. You had encouragement from your smokey friend too, haha 😁 you probably brightened up that couples day too, lol. 40 mins is good Bev, quicker than my 46 when I graduated at my first park run. You can do it girl, keep those legs running xxx

On Beth...I'm so happy to hear from you...are you still out there?? I've been wondering how you are...I'm.usually about 38ish so Gareth might not have made that much difference but do you know what??? I'm not bothered...I am running, I feel strong.....people who don't run think im strong too...I am happy with where I am...I'm entering virtual race a month this year and I am running because I can xx

Hi MC! You are doing wonders, glad you are still on the 10k path. Love your pretty watch much nicer than my ugly Garmin. I am back in the game (hopefully!!) .... done a few weeks worth of 30 mins runs now, which I am sticking to for now as don't want to upset the old bum cheek again. It feels so good to be back though, it's been a loooonnng time!

Walking home from yoga tonight some dirty old perv was having a barclay bank in full view in someone's front garden!! Needless to say I was completely horrified! But thank God I am a 47 year old woman not a teenager. Must be something in the air - Gareth has a lot to answer for!!

Omg...I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear from you Fishypieface ....I think about you a lot...and often wonder how you're doing and I am soooooooo happy that you are back, I'm looking forward to reading your posts..they are always so entertaining and inspirational, you will never know xxx

Ham shank is the slang up here but I knew what you meant when you said Barclays bank...yuk...!!!! And I hope it was his own garden???? Please, please post about your adventures, I miss you xx

Aw thanks MC, we should start a mutual appreciation club! :) My runs have been pretty boring so far I'm afraid to say. No interesting characters to speak of! I love your reply to Quirkybee - that sums running up in a perfect nutshell. We've learnt the hard way that it all simply comes back to that.... we need some running stripes on our t-shirts, feel like I'd have an armful with all the lessons I've learnt.... and then spaces where I've ripped them off, cos I've not learnt my lesson properly!! A right old bloody state! No change there then! :) xx
