Having had a couple of days off from running, this morning we were both happy to get out. The sun was shining, it was a bit warmer but not too warm, perfect. NRC tells me it was 17C but I'd have guessed more than this.
I started slowly so that my husband could detour to drop our towels at the beach and then catch up with me. Running up a long slight incline I reflected on how easy it felt - pace was well over 10 mins/km so I could appreciate the view over the clear water to the misty islands beyond. When I'm trying to go fast all I look at is the path, which is a bit of a waste.
Once he caught me I speeded up a little, not too much, what's the rush? Going uphill in the warm has the potential to be very strenuous but that's not always what's needed. Even when we reached the downhill slope we took it easy.
At the next village the road leads to a beach and flattens out, but the soft sand and piles of seaweed are slow going. We cut past a hotel and through to the road so that we could reach 2.5 km before turning around. Then it was back uphill, crossing from one side of the road to the other to get the optimum combination of soft footpaths and shade. When we reached the beach with the towels we were 400m short so carried on a little further then turned back to complete 5km and have our swim.
This will probably be our last run here in Greece as we will leave the day after tomorrow. I'm going to miss it
Pic is of me and a kitten who has either befriended us or realises that we are a soft touch when he demands food 😂
