This week last year, just before I turned 57, I did the 1st session of c25k. At that time I was Granytobe. I graduated on 3rd October and bought my trusty Garmin 35 on 5th October before entering the Baxters Loch ness 5k on 6th October with 1600 others. Goodness that was an amazing event running with all those people and completing my 1st 5k distance.
After 2 weeks consolidation I started Ju Ju's magic plan. Graduated on 4th December having skipped the 2 x 9k weeks as it was so cold I just wanted to graduate then go back to shorter runs in the cold weather. In January after a 2 week break skiing I decided to attempt a virtual NC500 in 2020. This is a fantastic road trip round the Scottish highlands where I have lived since 1987.
In February, around the time my wonderful 1st grandson was born, I decided to work on hill runs which I now love.
In May we moved to Perthshire beside our extended family - bliss being so close especially during lockdown.
Today I've reached 1000k since buying my garmin in October. Today's run was 8.5k in beautiful Loch Tay, 1 night mini break with sister-in-law but the young ones and new babies (nephew's daughter 1 week today) are joining us for a walk.
Happy running everyone π€

Wow big congratulations on your runniversary AND your 1000k! This is such a positive and inspirational post, thanks for sharing.
It would seem we share some life parallels as I too grew up in the Highlands but moved south but not quite Perthshire as I am in neighbouring Fife π
Hello neighbour I hope you are enjoying running in Fife. I'm waiting for the crowds to go then hope to run at tentsmuir as it was always a favourite place to visit as a child. π€
Now there's a thought, diving into the sea at the end of the run. Heading to a bike shop on leuchars next week so maybe make a day of it - run, swim then viewing bikes - almost a triathlon π€£π€£
Congratulations Grannyhugs on your runniversary and completing a 1000k. What a great time you've had with running, a new grandson and moving closer to your family.
Here's to the next year πββοΈπββοΈππ₯³π₯³π₯³
Congratulations on reaching 1000K with that lovely 8.5K run round Loch Tay this morning, enjoy your walk this afternoon with your sister in law, thank goodness we here in Scotland are missing those 35C+93/99F temperatures that the South of England is to have for the next few days.
That all sounds lovely and beautiful pictures too. We must have started c25k about the same time. I started after my 58th birthday on 12 August 2019. π
Oh so close with starting, ages, birthdays and locations. Its lovely to be succeeding at something new at this stage in life. π€
I loved reading this and kept saying 'wow' in my head at all that has happened to you and at what running has given you. Happy anniversary indeed. I hope you continue to enjoy and reach many new experiences on your adventures!
Congratulations Grannyhugs! All those K's, and last time I looked 10 miles was about to succumb. Your progress in a year is simply astonishing. Fit as a fiddle, grandchildren, close to family.....a wonderful time of life π
Thank you, just the best time of life. 10 miles hopefully soon, need to do some short runs in prep but have started long cycle rides with a group of women so more to squeeze into the week trying not to cause injury. Nice problem to have though. π€
Aw bless, even the thought of climbing schiehallion, or at least coming down at the end of the climb, makes my knees ache. It has special memories as was a walk hubby and I did when we first met 40 years ago next month. Maybe I have to tackle it 1 more time.π€
You have achieved so much in a year, you must be so proud, not to forget the lovely new additions to the family and now being so close to your grandson. Really looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months brings you. Happy runniversary π
It certainly is. We almost started at the same time.. I was end of August. Having played so much sport all my life I always used to say I wished I could run as it must be great to just have that time... I honestly never thought I would be running 3 times a week. The support from this forum is amazing
Fantastic GH! It will seem like a flash and you will be running with your grandson only he will not be able to keep up with you! Your runs look spectacular!
Thank you, he's so funny, desperate to get moving but only 5Β½ months so does a kind of backward shuffle and roll meaning I'm still going forward faster - yayπ€
Congratulations!π What a year for you! Thank you for sharing your inspirational posts, I'm looking forward to reading about what Grannyhugs does next.
Congratulations on a great year of running and a wonderful year of life experiences. I started running May 2019 aged 64 and am now completing JuJus magic plan. I agree with your ideal you do only get 1 life and it is certainly best to live it well. And you certainly are. Well done. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈππππ
Amazing achievement GH. πββοΈπββοΈ What a year youβve had! π Hope youβre enjoying your grandson. Mine will be one in September and I really canβt believe how time has flown! β€οΈ
We sure do. My little man isnβt going to be long in walking I think. Heβs just started being able balance for a few seconds whilst standing up! Arenβt they wonderful? ππ₯°π
Brilliant, mine has mastered rolling over and shuffling backwardsπ€ away from everything heβs trying to reachπ€£ also throwing things out of park and high chair are a specialty π€£π€£
Thank you, I feel great. Full of confidence and so proud to be part of this community. Go out and enjoy your runs however long or short they are, whatever speed you run at. Be proud of yourself as a runner be proud you go out and do it again and again. Set yourself little targets you want to meet but they have to be your targets that you want, not ones you "think" someone else expects of you. Go out and have fun, happy running π€
Such a lovely running story Grannyhugs, what a journey, some distance you have travelled, some amazing places to run up there, and sounds sooo good being close to your family and the little ones, enjoy π€
Thank you, I did my first 10miles run 2days later which also meant Iβd completed my virtual NC500 challenge which I started in January. Enjoy your long journeyπ€
