1st runiversary and 1000k since graduation

This week last year, just before I turned 57, I did the 1st session of c25k. At that time I was Granytobe. I graduated on 3rd October and bought my trusty Garmin 35 on 5th October before entering the Baxters Loch ness 5k on 6th October with 1600 others. Goodness that was an amazing event running with all those people and completing my 1st 5k distance.

After 2 weeks consolidation I started Ju Ju's magic plan. Graduated on 4th December having skipped the 2 x 9k weeks as it was so cold I just wanted to graduate then go back to shorter runs in the cold weather. In January after a 2 week break skiing I decided to attempt a virtual NC500 in 2020. This is a fantastic road trip round the Scottish highlands where I have lived since 1987.

In February, around the time my wonderful 1st grandson was born, I decided to work on hill runs which I now love.

In May we moved to Perthshire beside our extended family - bliss being so close especially during lockdown.

Today I've reached 1000k since buying my garmin in October. Today's run was 8.5k in beautiful Loch Tay, 1 night mini break with sister-in-law but the young ones and new babies (nephew's daughter 1 week today) are joining us for a walk.

Happy running everyone πŸ€—

Wow big congratulations on your runniversary AND your 1000k! This is such a positive and inspirational post, thanks for sharing.

It would seem we share some life parallels as I too grew up in the Highlands but moved south but not quite Perthshire as I am in neighbouring Fife πŸ˜€

Hello neighbour I hope you are enjoying running in Fife. I'm waiting for the crowds to go then hope to run at tentsmuir as it was always a favourite place to visit as a child. πŸ€—

Hi,

Yes, I agree that Fife certainly has a lot of beautfiul countryside to enjoy but then again so does Pertshire ☺

We know Tentsmuir very well indeed as it's a family favourite of ours for bike rides, picnics and dips in the sea 😍

Grannyhugs
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to TallTeal2020

Now there's a thought, diving into the sea at the end of the run. Heading to a bike shop on leuchars next week so maybe make a day of it - run, swim then viewing bikes - almost a triathlon 🀣🀣

LOL sounds like an ace day, have fun.

Congratulations on reaching 1000K with that lovely 8.5K run round Loch Tay this morning, enjoy your walk this afternoon with your sister in law, thank goodness we here in Scotland are missing those 35C+93/99F temperatures that the South of England is to have for the next few days.

Grannyhugs

Thank you, just the best time of life. 10 miles hopefully soon, need to do some short runs in prep but have started long cycle rides with a group of women so more to squeeze into the week trying not to cause injury. Nice problem to have though. πŸ€—

That's a lovely running journey you've had over the past year. What an achievement to have run that distance too - with hills thrown into the mix!

Lovely that you had a night away - Loch Tay is beautiful. Did you run up Schiehallion???

Grannyhugs
GrannyhugsGraduate10 in reply to Fionamags

Aw bless, even the thought of climbing schiehallion, or at least coming down at the end of the climb, makes my knees ache. It has special memories as was a walk hubby and I did when we first met 40 years ago next month. Maybe I have to tackle it 1 more time.πŸ€—

Thank you, I feel great. Full of confidence and so proud to be part of this community. Go out and enjoy your runs however long or short they are, whatever speed you run at. Be proud of yourself as a runner be proud you go out and do it again and again. Set yourself little targets you want to meet but they have to be your targets that you want, not ones you "think" someone else expects of you. Go out and have fun, happy running πŸ€—
