Blimey, I did it! I went for it and got 23.37. I was so tired at the end. I only try once in a while to go all out and today I did it ๐
5k PB in hot weather : Blimey, I did it! I... - Bridge to 10K
5k PB in hot weather
23:37 ๐ฎ Thatโs amazing! Well done you must be thrilled with that, Iโm still trying to get to 30 mins or under, best so far 31:14, any tips? Iโve been looking at pre-workout drinks, do you use those?
Thank you so much! I just try and stay hydrated every day but definitely longer slower runs help. I feel better at longer distances and only run 5k's once in a blue moon. I usually run 5-10 miles every time. I'm pleased with it for 47 but my only real tip is to run faster you've got to run slower. Good luck, you can do it and it will come.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice, Iโve started drinking more water today and I think thatโll make a big difference, plus Iโm trying to eat more healthy foods....Iโll get there ๐
Well done! Something to be proud of - all your hard work and determination has paid off ๐
Thank you!
Thatโs very quick. Looks like a speedy first lap.
It was and hard to sustain ๐
Fantastic achievement, well done my friend.
Even more impressive considering itโs the hottest day of the year.
All of those long runs really pay off, along with your determination.
Congratulations ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ช
Thanks my friend. I left it all out there tonight but glad I did as you recover pretty quick after.
Very impressive ๐
Thank you!
Just out of interest what does your heart rate do when you run like this? Mine is high even when I'm running slowly ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
I don't have a monitor so I don't know. I just have Strava but my phone goes in the waistband when I run. One day I'd like to get a watch that does all that ๐
Well that's just brilliant GTFC, amazing time and in the heat ๐๐๐
Thank you Buddy. Back to longer ones now which I prefer.
Wow. Blooming Hell, very well done. My PB for 5K is 25:36 and I nearly blew a gasket. Iโd love to get under 25 minutes. I donโt think I could ever achieve your amazing result, in fact I know I couldnโt. Great running, congratulations.
Damien
Really appreciate this. My previous best was 25.10 so we are pretty close. You will go sub 25 eventually. I left it all out there today as I seldom do straight 5k runs. Maybe just once every few months. I much prefer runs of 5 miles plus. You will get there when it feels good for you!
Thatโs awesome GTFC, absolutely flying! Well done! ๐๐๐๐
Thank you!
Respect to you GTFC thatโs is truly amazing. Iโm a 61-year-old duck trying to get under 30 mins and youโre an inspiration although youโre loads younger than me! The trick definitely seems to be longer distances as regular runs ๐
Thank you. If I'm still able to get out and run pain my 60's I will be very pleased indeed. Keep going. I believe you'll get there.
Wow. Well done. What a terrific time GTFC. Great achievement.
Thank you! I will ease off a while now!
Super speedy. Especially in this hot weather. Well done ๐๐ผ
It was so hot but I'm getting used to it a little more now.
That's brilliant!I'm on 26.02, aiming for sub 25, love hearing stories like this. Do you do intervals too?I've started doing long runs which has got my time down and was thinking they would help too?
Thank you so much. I'm always nervous posting these types of runs but in the moment I was so happy that I just posted. I've been running since November and watch lots of videos on YouTube which help. The Running Channel and The Run Experience are ace. I don't really do intervals, fartleks or hill sprints much but I've found long slow runs really helpful. I usually do a 5 mile run, 8-10 mile run and 7 mile run each week nice and steady. This has undoubtedly helped as I don't really get too tired and my breathing is fine and under control. Then every few months I'll do a HM or 5k sprint. Hope this helps. You certainly will go under yourself. Do you enjoy the longer runs yourself? Consistency is the key!
Hi, I've heard of the running channel but not the run experience, will take a look, thanks. Posting is great as the community understands the effort, my friends wouldnt be impressed, lol. I've only been running since March, but definitely have the running bug, started on couch to 5k.
I run 3 times a week usually a 5k, a 10k and the 3rd is either another 5k or I started intervals this week to mix it up. I do like the longer runs, though tbh I ran 12k for the first time last week and my brain did start to wander. Great for endurance though, so will keep it up, thanks for the tips!
You are doing brilliantly! Keep going and maybe look at hill repeats to help you too. Global Triathlon Network is also really good. Take care and I'll look out for your posts!
Wowee, that's some speed, well done ๐
Exhausting going all out isn't it, harder than a long slow run any day!
Yes! I really was a state at the end!! Good job it's only once in a while ๐
Amazing time ๐๐๐๐๐; congratulations. I ran yesterday in the heat; 3.5k at a very slow pace and I was still boiling! Zero intake has increased substantially (but not more than three per day!)
I'm like you, I have my days and whatever the weather I'm doing it! 3.5k is still hard work out there so well done.
From another 47 year old: that sounds superhuman to me! I can't do anything in this weather!
Wow that's amazing. Congratulations!!!!
Thank you. When I get home and am recovered I'm always glad I did it and put the effort in.
Speedy
Super fast!! Wow. Well done, what an amazing effort. I'm still at the stage where I daren't go too fast as I don't think I'll make it to the end!
I'm up to 13K now and I must admit I'm enjoying the long slow runs when there is no pressure on pace. I actually find I am able to sing along with my music!
I'm amazed at how my shorter distances have just naturally got faster after the long runs. It's all very satisfying this running business isn't it? Well....some of the time at least! ๐ I'm only up to 33mins for my 5K. Wow, you're 10 mins faster, that's amazing! Well done again.
I'm 45 years old so maybe my best is yet to come too!
Sounds like you are doing so well. After 2.5k I was ready to stop. Then I thought 'just keep going' it's very rare I put the hammer down like this. Your long slow runs and singing are so lovely to hear. You will certainly get there, no doubt. Long slow runs are my forte really and like you I feel satisfied so often. Oh...your best is yet to come ๐
You would just be a blur at that speed itโs amazing
I suppose at least if you go fast enough you get back before the heat really starts to get to you (that bits a joke)
Very fast time though, you must be so chuffed
Thank you. I really was but now back to slow and steady!
