I was planning to run in hot weather gear today, but the Decathlon top and shorts which arrived yesterday are TINY. French people must be lissom and svelte! So just the shoes - which are Puma "CoolAdapt"
Running at lunchtime in blazing sunshine - the crowds enjoying the weather must have thought I was bonkers. I did feel like a melting ice lolly. Must order a sweatband.
Shoes were superb though. I'd read only good reviews of these Puma "Velocity Nitro" shoes with their nitrogen infused midsoles. Very comfy, very low perceived effort, and very stable underfoot. And my feet didn't get hot. I was quite disappointed when my watch buzzed for 5K and I had to stop. But save the legs for another day. πββοΈ
34:24 - so a nice gentle shamble. π

Lovely photo of your running shoes, that was a good run for you today ForbiddenPlanet, I will always remember that time you ran today, 34.24 which was the very same time as my first 5K run, not my first Parkrun, that was 34.16, strange that us runners remember the times of our first "milestone" runs.
Sounds perfect, I love running in the heat and those shoes look like they will carry you many many milesYou didnβt need to order tiny clothes though, I have plenty o could have sent, nearly everything ordered online is tiny nowadays π
Hi Caley. They were in a sale at ASOS, and I paid Β£36 for them (rrp is Β£100). I'm just an old cheapskate really!
I bought them online - so no gait analysis - and they're a neutral shoe.
So far I've worn out a pair of Aldi trainers and a pair of Adidas Ultraboost 19s and from the wear pattern on both I appear to be a neutral runner - maybe slight supination.
Spent a lot of time on the IC in lockdown and I became fanatical about working on my posture and gait!
So the top and shorts were too small, so you went in just the shoes π² That really is hot weather gear, no wonder the crowds thought you were bonkers π
I'm not sure that I could take a hot lunchtime run, but it's a good way to test the new shoes, they sound pretty good. Happy running!
Nope, not all French people are lissom and svelte ForbiddenPlanet ! Decathlon sizing can be very weird though and I now try before I buy. I got a trail skort in the sale and loved it. Went back to shop, found another, supposedly identical in style and size, tried it on and it didn't fit properly at all!
There is no Decathlon store anywhere near me where I might try stuff on; apparently it's too expensive around here for the sales they might expect. And I often buy stuff online anyway.
The shirt and shorts I received are of good quality and if they were true to size would be great value!
Absolutely no need to apologise ForbiddenPlanet , I thought it was funny! I'm still a Brit, as my application for French nationality is taking forever and a day.
Maybe they've twigged that although I'm actually quite small, I'll never be able to wear traditional French-cut women's trousers, as I go in and out and have short, chunky legs!
I've found generally running gear is small, I'm normally a 12 in UK, but often have to get xl running kit.
I've run in France for the last 6 summers, the French seem to think I'm bonkers whatever I wear, whatever the weather. Where I run the people don't even walk anywhere, so to see this 60 something grey haired nutter clomping around never fails to amuse them, especially when it rains. . One man even stopped me, pointed to the sky and told me it was raining, like hadn't noticed!!
Nail on the head wrt size I think I need to go XL too! Always amazes me when I see an advert for a running top with a footnote like "Model is 6'2" and is wearing a size Medium".
My running route is jogging central but it is rare that I see a runner my age. But I am lucky in that runners are so commonplace hereabouts.
I too have heard good things about the Puma Velocity Nitro as well as the New Balance Rebel V2. They certainly seem to tick all the right boxes for everyday running shoes with good cushioning and lively energy return. π
Yes - very pleased with the Velocity. Though I'm not sure me running @ 7 min / km gets quite the same experience as a younger reviewer going 7 min / mile. π I'll check out the Rebels.
Toying with buying a super shoe as I've seen some of last year's models discounted. Not sure I would get the benefit at my current pace though.
Donβt tell anyone, but I have 4 pairs of super shoes ππ. They absolutely do help, and not just with pace, but with injury prevention too. Iβm convinced of that. I love love love running in my super shoes. π
