Gosh, it's *still* hot. I went out about 7:30 this morning, and went for a happy 5k down my favourite canal route. For some mad reason, and Sadie-runs has already confirmed that I'm insane, I decided to make this one fast. Some of you may know I've been running to podrunner.com fixed-tempo running music. I hate the music, but it's great for keeping a steady pace. This morning I chose 160bpm, 5bpm faster than I would normally run on a 5k. Something went right, because I managed 5k in about 33:30 which I'm reasonably sure is my peronal best.
I was a sweaty mess by the end though, but having had a sit down, a much -needed shower, 2 cups of tea, and breakfast, I feel good!
It’s really really fun, this morning was a blast. Quite a sweaty blast, but a blast nonetheless, even if I did nearly come a cropper avoiding the lady with the 5 small yappy dogs! Thanks so much for all your encouragement xxx
I had a chat with my church pastor this afternoon... he’s been a runner for years, and has taken the day off tomorrow to do some training for the ultra-marathon he’s entered in October. So maybe I’m not quite in the Fitty McFit category just yet, but certainly less unfitty than I was
I like running to tempo music too - using Audiofuel stuff. I find I can generally tune out of the music - it really helps me to maintain a more consistent pace.
Congrats on the PB - and sounds like the 10k plan is coming together too 😊
Hi Deb, thanks, yes the 10k plan is coming together nicely, and I’m really enjoying it. Fixed tempo “music” has really helped me with consistent pacing, and that makes me happy, even if the music is very questionable... thanks for your support as always, and all the best for your running journey!
Thank you! I think today the trick was to get out early when it’s not too hot and there’s plenty of shade around. The shady bits of the towpath were just heaven!
Hey I’ve just checked your post, and you did brilliantly! I’ve only done one parkrun, and it was really hard. Your time is nothing to be ashamed of, so very well done to you! 👏
Thanks 316neil. You’re right, I’m really chuffed with my Parkrun time. In fact I am totally amazed that I ran all 5k given that before March I didn’t run at all.
I must confess that when I said wow it was because I saw wk7 and got confused between c25k and b210k. I’ve only just joined big school.
Hey I like to think of it as a journey and not a race your pace is your pace, and unless you plan to compete in the olympics or something, it matters not! You graduated, that’s so much more than lots of others... be proud!
Well done Neil, just spotted this you beat me by 10 seconds! I was aiming for below 33 mins but didn't quite make it. I shall be slowing right down to very steady plod for my 9k next week I think
As you may just have spotted I did 10k on Wednesday. I was faster than I intended to be (6:59/k), but still slower than this pace. Steady plodding is great though, and generally makes for a really enjoyable run. The good news for me is that now I can work on speed at my own, well, speed
