Aches and pains

So, I've got into jogging since lockdown. C25K was brilliant and I'm now able to do 5K - slowly working towards 30 minutes!

I am pleasantly surprised to find I enjoy it but .... when i started out I was surprised that I didn't actually feel that bad - I'm obese and assumed it would kill my joints, but didn't hurt. But now after a few months I find that after a jog I'm getting dodgy knees and soreness in my legs. Not sure if that's just beginners enthusiasm wearing off - has anyone else found that? Thanks!

Well done Larry, I hope you achieve your 30 minute 5k goal. I’m still not there after 2 years but I love running nonetheless. 😀

I wonder if you’ve had a gait analysis (possibly not available at the moment)? It might be that now you’re running more, and probably faster than during C25K, your shoes aren’t keeping up with you so to speak.

Other than that, maybe take extra care warming up beforehand and cooling down after. A foam roller is a torturous device which can work wonders! Something else to consider.

Keep enjoying your running. 😀

Thank you for that! Very interesting - I've not heard of gait analysis but worth looking into ... makes me sound like a proper runner :) My trainers are many years old, so I should definitely get a new pair.

I've been using this for stretching - nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... - but will look into the foam roller.

Thanks again for replying!

Oh yes a gait analysis is fabulous and you usually get a discount off any trainers you buy from them afterwards. I wasn’t pressurised at all to do so - but of course I did! 😅

Sports shoe shops offer them but I had a “proper” one done at a sports lab by a qualified podiatrist, also an elite runner in his own right! I certainly wasn’t worthy. 🤦‍♀️ 😅 My husband got it for me for my birthday last year. 😀

So glad you’re loving running - isn’t it great? 🏃‍♀️🏃🏃‍♀️🏃

Running is great! Can't believe that I'm saying it ... hope I can keep it up post-Covid
