Good morning everyone. Happy Virtual parkrun day. It’s also a Happy Birthday Virtual parkrun for me. 46 years young today. I’m up early and looking forward to my run. I’m going to be finishing in my local town where I will meet up with 2 of my parkrun buddies for a post virtual parkrun coffee. It will be a takeaway coffee enjoyed of course whilst observing social distancing.
So as usual please post your virtual parkrun run reports below. I’ll update you on mine later. cheekychipmunks is probably just finishing up her run now. Happy running everyone.

Happy birthday to you Damien, enjoy your day and especially your I think 3rd Virtual 5K parkrun, this morning at 9.30 I will be running my 9th virtual 5K parkrun.
Hope you're having a good birthday Damien, I ran my 9th virtual 5K parkrun this morning, slightly disappointed with my time of 33.40, I was hoping it would be 32.40, but never mind, it's not the Olympics, enjoy the rest of your day, birthday 🎂 🏃🏾.
OK tomorrow will do, your friend Johnny Lewis in Northern Ireland ran a Half Marathon for the first time this morning, I am sure you will wish him heartily congratulations for running that distance, he wasn't the only runner to achieve that distance, my friend Buddy34 who I have met at Drumpelliier parkrun also ran her first Half Marathon as well, I don't know about you perhaps going onto those "long distances" but I think I will stay at 10k as my furtherest.
Happy birthday and enjoy your virtual parkrun and virtual post park run coffee. I will be out at 9.30 doing my virtual Bressay Parkrun. Right now I would have been driving from Voe to Lerwick to catch the ferry across to the island of Bressay to amble along the most northerly parkrun in the UK. We love Shetland and this would have been our first time there when the parkrun was taking place. Gutted not to be there but that's a small thing when so many people have lost so much in these times. Keep safe everybody.
New route today to avoid most of the folks out enjoying the morning sunshine. A few more ups and downs than usual and some welcome genuine trail run surfaces. One close call with a mountain biker around a blind corner but just managed to hop to the side in time. Reasonable time for me of 30.13 so all in all a good morning. Just not as good as it ought to have been. Garden bench is now in place for us to have our morning coffee. It will be a virtual Speldiburn Café coffee without what people describe as the best cakes in the world.
Well done. Good time and such a pity this has scuppered you plans. A Shetland Island parkrun sounds amazing. But you’ll get there and experience that some day. There is a parkrun in West Cork in Ireland which I hope to do called Bere Island parkrun. You have to get a ferry out to it. It’s on my list too.
We were hoping to get to Shetland again this year but it will probably be postponed to next year now.
They started Bressay parkrun not long after our last visit.
Then a parkrun started in Kirkwall, Orkney, after our last visit! Although we ran the Scarpa Flow 5K from the Youth Hostel, so we have already met some of the parkrunners.
There is now a parkrun in Stornoway - another place we need to revisit.
It feels as though they are all waiting with the parkrun kit, then once we are safely home they leap out of hiding and start a new parkrun
We hadn't actually booked anything, we have a campervan so we can book fairly late anyway.
We had intended to go last year but our friend had a stress fracture so we postponed it.
In fact, now I think of it, it always seems to take us a few times to get to Shetland! The first time we were on the point of booking when a friend said "do you fancy going to the Scilly Isles - so we turned the map upside down
Last time we were going to go to Orkney and Shetland but decided we would not do them justice in the time available so we just went to Orkney.
The best time of all was when we booked for Shetland then found the Olympic Flame was going there on the same day. That was magical because we we camping at Lerwick Sports Centre and the flame was rowed across the loch towards us from the Brock of Clickimin. There were hordes of Vikings and live music right alongside.
A brilliant day, even after a rough overnight sea crossing from Aberdeen.
Funny that, the last time we were thinking of going back to Bryher on the IoS our friends said they were going to Shetland and would we like to come with them. Now we have to constantly think Scilly or Shetland !!! Both sets of island are wonderful in their own way and we have marvellous memories from both.
So Katnap and I ventured out on our usual non parkrun route. Floss had given me a good warning about the temperature on Facebook so we were dressed just right. No speedy 1k this week so we could just go with the flow. I had my usual pre-parkrun trepidation: why do I still get this??? Two years now and it’s still there! Anyway, it was quite a speedy, fairly steady run. Not as many people walking as previous weeks but definitely a lot more traffic (oh the joys of living in a tourist trap, especially one that was on national news last night 🙄).
Run came in at about 28:30 so faster than last week, very pleased with that. Now for the bacon rolls followed by some gardening.
Have a super day everyone but particularly Damien 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you so much. I’ve been spoilt rotten so far. I did my 5K, met my two parkrun buddies, Petula and Ida for a post virtual parkrun coffee, I bought 3 slices of cake too which we took away to a lovely quiet spot behind a church. I then took out the cake and told them that they had to join me for Birthday cake. We sat in a lovely comfortable sun trap for 2 hours chatting. I then ran 1K home at a faster 5:05 min/km pace and my little 10 year old parkrun Buddy Oisin made me a Birthday Pancake with Nutella and Banana. Just then the door bell rang and I received a box of gorgeous cupcakes from a lovely lady , my Sister had ordered them online for me. So biscuit cake, pancake and cupcakes. I need to do 10K tomorrow to work all this off.😂
🤣🤣 at least Damien!! Sounds like you’ve had a brilliant & yummy day 😋👏👏
Btw, I’ve just ordered a special new Apricot just for lockdown Saturdays so I can save my home one for touring (it’s only had the chance to do one since I got it). When it arrives I’ll post and tag you 😁
Happy birthday Damien, I almost saw you overtake us in our virtual parkrun this morning but you were too fast
Our usual park and round the track 4 times watching a couple of little lads warming up, they did all sorts of fun looking stuff, a run round the track then skipping along for awards and backwards the what looked impossibly touching each foot with the opposite hand as they moved along..... then sprint races, their trainer looked like a seasoned runner and possibly their mum
Then through the golf course birdsong and greenery getting very hot though
Over the road and on to the beach but once again I’ve missed the tide and no sand so back through the golf course
I almost got a pb too but between dogs and seeing someone from work who i jogged round while we said hello missed it by a minute
It was lovely to be out this morning and my first day off when we can go out more than once so on way home we talked about where we will go this afternoon lol
I came in first closely followed by Willow depending how you look at it, he got to the car first but i did an extra lap of the track
Hope you all enjoyed your virtual park run as much as i did and raise a large glass of water to Damien, thanks for keeping this up
Great running. And thanks for the Birthday wishes. I hated my Birthday when I was in School and college as it was always bang in the middle of Exam season. But now I celebrate in style. My Wife thinks I’m mental and like a child. But it’s important to be self indulgent for just one day a year.😀
Well done. I found it tough too today. So your not alone. I need to extend my runs to 10K. I’ve got into a little rut. But we are still running and there will always be a tough one. Have a good weekend.
I have a confession to make - I was thinking of bunking off ParkrunAtHome today, but then your post popped up and changed my mind.
It wasn’t the best of runs today. GPS signal playing up, so watch playing silly devils too. I ran the first 2k quite hard, thinking I might have got some segment PBs, only to realise my watch had paused - argh!!!! Then there were lots of pedestrians to dodge. Met someone from my running club and stopped for a quick chat which was nice. Then realised my sock had slipped and I was rubbing up a blister so had to stop to sort that out too. So although Strava thinks I only ran 3k, I know I ran 5k and all in all my elapsed time of 32:33 wasn’t too bad!
A very happy birthday Damien 🥳🥂 My virtual parkrun was around virtual Inverness today, which is where I would have been a tourist in the normal world just coming to the end of our NC500 trip. A lovely sunny morning again and, although apparently only 10c, it felt warmer in the sun. I decided to wear my Bergerac 10k t-shirt this week, as it would have been a year since I ran it if it hadn’t been cancelled (There appears to be a pattern emerging 😂) I set off thinking I might try to get under 30 mins again, but missed it by 36 seconds. Perfect splits though, if, sadly the wrong way round - 5.50, 6.00, 6.08, 6.12 and 6.16! One of these years I’ll get them the right way round. Anyway, have a great day and hope you enjoyed your post parkrun coffee and chat!
Wow those splits are amazing. I had a tough run but always happy afterwards. Loved my coffee and catch up and then got spoilt rotten at home. So far so good. Thanks for the Birthday wishes.
We did our usual Goyt Valley run. As I thought, it was quieter than usual this week.
We ran 1k to the Start, reset Garmins then instead of turning back at 2.5k I carried on another 0.5k. When I reached 5K on the return I reset my watch and ran another 1km to the Finish before the 1km walk up the hill and home for bacon, egg and mushroom butties. No pb but I enjoyed it.
Happy birthday Damien, may the leprechauns be with you entirely ….
I tacked a very gentle 5k (28'16" or thereabouts) on to the end of Dexy5 's second rehab run (5 x 90 secs running, 60 secs recovery). Shower and breakfast (well brunch really) next, that'll be the morning gone - and we're all another week closer to the next real parkrun
Thanks so much. Loved my morning run. I wish it was the real deal but met up with my actual parkrun buddies for a post virtual parkrun coffee. Looking forward to some drinky poo’s later😀
Happy happy birthday Damienair, I hope you will have a special time with your family.
We sat in bed doing the parkrun quiz, a more respectable 8/15 today.
I can confirm that for the first time I then completed a full virtual parkrun this morning for the first time on legs.
A lovely morning and I wore my apricot T-shirt to show I’m a home runner.
1 walked to the closed road on the seafront, then accompanied by UpTheStanley I started a 90 second/ 60 second run walk 5 times. We then walked to a landmark for our virtual vitality landmark post. Then I walked home while UTS did his virtual parkrun. Having got there i realised I was 1.5k short so returned to the prom and back to make it 5k. It took an hour so I was the last runner, but I was also the Tailwalker so that’s okay.
Excellent. Congratulations Dexy5 on your return to parkrun, although it’s an unofficial virtual parkrun. But 5K is 5K and you did it in your Apricot T. I’m thrilled to see you back running again without the Bike and the Megaphone.😀 Yahoo.
Happy birthday damienair ! And happy virtual PR day too! 🎉🎉🎉 Have fun with your buddies! ☕️
I was a tad late out this morning - 8am - but as I’m driving to the common now it didn’t matter quite so much - plus Flossie is now back with me which makes up for it. ❤️🐾🐕🏃♀️
I might rethink that idea though, as there were lots of dog walkers around today, so I wasn’t able to run my chosen trails as readily. Still plenty of room for all and no dog incidents and it was fun nonetheless. 😀👍
I’m making myself incorporate hills each time I go up there - I could go round the plateau 10 times to make a flat 5k, but I’m hoping that the hills will make running on pavement feel a doddle! I’ll be doing my virtual London Vitality 10,000 in Bristol in bank holiday Monday so we’ll see!
Anyway, virtual PR and yoga done, followed by my huuuuge Full English, now I’m off to paint the shed! 👍
Excellent and well done Cheeky. Hill training is important. I have experienced the Eastville parkrun B course. That was a long climb. I hope your shed is well painted now. I’ve been munching on cake, cupcakes and Oisin even made the family pancakes for brunch. Trying to work them off whilst gardening. Lawn mowed and it’s almost time to light the BBQ. It will be a cook out and eat in. It’s gone a little chilly. Thanks for the Birthday wishes.
Happy birthday damienair you are but a youngster. I hope you had a great run and catchup. I did a 8k run in my new location, even managed to find a hill - well dual carriageway flyover and a slightly off horizontal road giving a total elevation of 40m over 8k. Oh for my 180m elevation runs from the old house 🤣 beautiful day out, loads of happy walkers, cyclists and runners all great on welcoming hellos, thank you and social distancing. Happy running 🤗
Well done. I need to extend my runs now and build back up to 10K. Going to attempt a 10K tomorrow and build in a couple of breaks. Thanks so much for the Birthday wishes.
I’m really a 12 year old trapped inside a 46 year old body. You should see the fights at home which I have with a 10 year old and 7 year old over the PlayStation 4.😂
🤣🤣 my 89 year old father thinks he's 18. First week of lockdown he replaced all the internal doors in his house on his own. He's not so hot on technology- entered a random zoom meeting yesterday 🤣🤣 Enjoy your 10k. I'm building up to a flat 10k. A bit boring after all my hills.
A long run on a Saturday morning is a Virtual parkrun and then some. Well done. I plan on attempting a 10K tomorrow. I’ll have to fit in a break or two. I need to comfortably get to a steady 10K level of fitness again. Thanks for the Birthday wishes and happy running.
Hi damienair just by way of a quick update I ran a 5K non Parkrun this morning🏃♂️👍 Hope you enjoyed the rest of your birthday 🎁🎂 and managed to get out today too!
Thank you so much to everyone for all the lovely Birthday wishes. I’ve been spoilt rotten so far. I did my 5K Virtual parkrun this morning, met my two parkrun buddies, Petula and Ida for a post virtual parkrun coffee, I bought 3 slices of cake too which we took away to a lovely quiet spot behind a church. I need to do 10K tomorrow to work all this off.😂
Spent the afternoon gardening and I’m going to set up the BBQ now. It’s almost beer o’clock. Great virtual parkrunning everyone, until next weekend, have a great week.
Happy birthday Damienair. My weekly exercise routine continues to avoid running on Saturdays. Instead, Mr Coddfish and I donned walking shoes and walking trousers and headed to Queen Elizabeth country park somewhat after parkrun time, and walked the 5 mile Woodland trail. I think the park has been closed until the change in UK (England) arrangements, so it was nice to get out there. Lots of space, and although the car parks were full, we passed relatively few people. There is little overlap between this walking route and the Queen Elizabeth parkrun course, but I did wear my 100 milestone shirt for good measure. Looking forward to when the gang Dexy5 , UpTheStanley , Oldgirlruns , cheekychipmunks and JonathanP can have our parkrun tourism trip to QE park. It’s now nice and dry, in fact a bit of a chalk dust bowl in places.
We're looking forward to it too Coddfish ! Many Happy Returns Damien - hope you're having a great day .
My usual route this morning but just to ring the changes I did it backwards (not running backwards, that would be silly!). Interesting mirror image splits - 5.31, 5.47, 5.55, 5.47, 5.31, 28.31 overall.
