Good morning everyone. Happy Virtual parkrun day. Have to be honest, I’m not feeling it right now. My neighbour last night thought it would be a great idea to meet up on the wall between our houses and have a few whiskeys 🥃 🥃 . So we both got out our step ladders and cushions and sat up on the wall drinking whiskey and chatting for 3.5 hours. Social distancing was very well adhered to. Anyway as you can imagine I’m feeling delicate right now. But seeing how Cheeky is probably out doing her Virtual parkrun already the show must go on. Looking forward to it, no PB’s being attempted though. 😂
Congratulations to Almorr who is doing his 6th Virtual parkrun this morning. This is number 2 for me.
Happy Virtual parkrun everyone. Please post all your run reports below.

Thanks for the mention Damien, you take your second virtual parkrun this morning slow and steady after what happened last night, I will be getting ready for my 6th virtual parkrun soon. I will report back here after I run it.
Boom 💥 done damienair - how did you guess?! Out you pop! 😅😅 And kudos if you do - not a cat’s chance I could run after “a few whiskeys” (or just one!) 😅
My run was lovely this morning. Way less cars and people around than yesterday and there was a lovely cool breeze. I felt strong all the way round. My goal is to speed up slightly up the hill when I reach the Common. It’s about a km of ascent. 🏃♀️🏃♀️ I’m definitely quicker than I used to be. As for the rest, the grass is currently rock hard and perfect to run on, as are the “muddy” tracks. Again, I’m mighty thankful lockdown is during the spring. 👍
Anyway, Virtual PR (5.57k actually) in the bag and I’ll look forward to reading how everyone else gets on. ❤️ Go guys ...... 🏃♀️🏃♂️ 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️
That accounts for a lot cheeky! No wonder you’re able to do all your tourism! Parkrun was forcing me to become a morning person, I seem to have slipped 🤣
Feeling smug as I got out early this morning to do mine. Have been road running to socially distance and missing the countryside runs so much, so decided on an early one to miss the crowds at the local bluebell woods. It was a lovely morning to run if a tad misty. 5.6k in the bag with a few photo stops🌷😊
Happy Virtual Parkrun Day Damien (she said quietly). Just getting the tea & crumpets in so we’ll be off shortly after the parkrun quiz again. Got to fit the speed challenge into it at some point 🤞 and we have bacon today so I’m a happy runner 😋 Good luck everyone (& particularly Damien 🤫)
Was up and down the ladder a few times for a refill. And had a controlled decent at midnight whereupon I blew out the candle on the lantern. Woke up 7 hours later full of regret.😂
We are running late as well. We joined Fyvie Folk Club online session last night, so it took me a while to get off to sleep with all the music buzzing in my head. Plus a full bottle of Old Mout, I only meant to have half of it!
We will leave for our 6th soon - we were "in" Scotland last night, so we are allowed to start at 9.30
Greetings from a cool and cloudy Lincolnshire and the 2nd virtual Dunholme parkrun incorporating the 1k speed challenge. No PB today and I ended up doing 6.1k, but a time of 30.44 for 5k and a 5.20 1k (2 seconds slower than last week 😢) Coffee and bacon sarnie about to be consumed! Happy virtual parkrun day everyone 🏃♀️🏃🏻♂️
Running on Southsea prom at weekends here is becoming a bit of a no-no due to numbers out and about (mostly trying to play by the rules, but making finding a way through tricky). So I did a parkrun-and-a-half yesterday at parkrun pace, 7.5k in 37'15" - can I count that?
And we did Vassos' big parkrun quiz this morning too …. 9 out of 15!
Well done UTS. Of course you can count that. I was listening to Vassos this morning on the parkrun podcast as I was running. I have not checked out the quiz yet.
I’m back in from the second running of the Johnstown/Athlumney parkrun. Today there were 2 runners. I bumped into a lovely lady called Ida at my 2K mark along my route. Ida is in our little parkrun tourist group and we sometimes visit different parkruns together. Ida was running in the opposite direction. We both stopped for a quick hello and I paused my watch. Then Ida decided to run back with me as she had done 3K at that point. So we ran together with Ida wearing her 100 T-Shirt. After about 600 meters I remembered I had forgotten to press resume on my watch. So I did 5K, but don’t have an official time. 2 kilometres later Ida peeled off towards her home and I ran the last kilometre home on my own. It was so lovely catching up and chatting to a friend as we both ran along together whilst remaining 2 meters apart.
Time for a coffee and a slice of toast now.
The weather was gorgeous. Gardening today and a BBQ for dinner this evening. Happy Virtual parkrun day everyone.
My watch gave me a time of 26:08 for 4.41K, average pace was 5:56.
After last night I would imagine it was nice to have a slightly more leisurely run with your parkrun friend than your usual speedy pace. Still a blooming good time though 👏👏👏
I ran 10k yesterday Damien so no running for me today. Glad you got out for your run and sweated out all the whisky 🤣 enjoy the rest of your weekend and your BBQ🌞🌞
We’ve got to get our social life where we can Damienair. Coincidentally Coddfish and I turned up at a local Restaurant around the same time yesterday to pick up soup and focaccia Take away for lunch. So lovely to see her In The flesh 2 metres apart when standing still, instead of her running while I’m cycling
I’m with TailChaser at the moment, staying up too late and then getting up too late. But we did have post parkrun Quiz breakfast, with cappuccino, to follow the Saturday tradition.
How’s the knee doing now Dexy? I bet it’s feeling stronger with all the cycling you’ve been doing. 👍
I bought Mr Cheeky a new bike for his birthday which is tomorrow. He obviously can’t row at the moment and running isn’t his favourite (excuse me - IS he my husband?), so he’s going to go cycling instead. Good luck with that, it’s all hills round here! 🚲 🥵
Hi cheeky, cycling is a great non impact alternative to running. I was beginning to feel like an old lady , only able walk short distances, but I walked 5k this week and the Daily exercises are getting easier. Next Friday is my physio appointment 🤞
Happy birthday to Mr Cheeky, at least he will have the family to celebrate with.
Ahh but he can run TC, and he’s a good runner too - but he rows so much that he wouldn’t have time to do more of it. Plus he finds running a chore and he aggravates his back - probably caused by too much rowing (I say nothing!! 😅)
My son has discovered he’s a speedy soul. He’s been doing regular 3k runs and his splits are around 4:40. 😱
We are back now, just enjoyed our bacon, egg and mushroom butties.
We did the usual Saturday non-parkrun route again. I knew straight away that it wouldn't be a pb, my legs just weren't up for it.
My Garmin connected fairly quickly today so off we went for the 1km run to the Start.
Partway along I stopped to talk to someone I knew and forgot to pause my Garmin. As I neared the bottom of the hill I met Geoff coming back up to see where I was. I couldn't have got lost so he probably thought that I fallen on the gravel, the hill is 1 in 4 - did I mention that last week?
At the bottom of the hill I restarted my Garmin and off we went.
A lot of the time it was completely clear and I was on my own but it was a lot busier today. There was a bottleneck at one point, two walkers with a dog, three runners and two cyclists all converging on the same point. Luckily everyone was sensible and we managed to negotiate safely round each other.
I was also passed by a pack of cyclists.
And twice I met a couple of men, one of whom never moves over from the middle of the path. If necessary I get onto the mud at the side rather than risk a confrontation. That's 12 times in all now.
So no chance of a pb, but not a personal worst either. 39.07
Fantastic and very well done. I was not looking at getting a PB today either. It was actually lovely bumping into Ida and slowing my pace down so as I could run along with her. It was a welcome relief.
Same route as last week for me... Home - Work - Home Loop 😊
I did an 11 k run yesterday so my Parkrun (NOT) Parkrun was a gentle run in the sun to my place of work and back. It was a little strange running to my studio and not opening up and going in, but I did enjoy the run 🤔
I'm going to keep this route for my Parkrun (NOT) Parkrun every week even though it's neatly 7k 😂 It keeps it consistent, just like a Parkrun AND I can improve (or not) my PB every week!
Shortly after the parkrun quiz, Katnap and I did the reverse non-parkrun route from last week so I could squeeze my speed run in. I was in my strange 'I can't do this' mood that I tend to get before each parkrun. I don't know why, it's been nearly two years now and I still feel like this! Anyway, we set off quick and gradually speeded up. As we got to the big hill lots of people, people with dogs, post vans, cars etc appeared, so we had to attempt to find a safe, 2 metre distance without getting run over whilst keeping the momentum up running up a steep hill! Thankfully once we got past the post van everybody and everything was behind us but by the time we got to the top of the hill my lungs were bursting!
The run back down the hill towards the Coop was much quieter. At the end of the 3km it was time to put my foot down and get into speedy 1km mode...unfortunately I'd spent it all up that hill. I did my best but I was down on my previous. Even had to take a quick breather which was annoying. Still, turning right at the end of the road was another nice downhill section...but...oh no! An old lady with a walking stick just as we have to build the momentum to go up hill again! In hindsight I should have stuck my arm out to show her my intention to bear right but it was all a bit of a muddle 😳. Anyway, up we went again and down towards the Shell garage and into the final half km. Katnap was away here as I ground to a halt at just over 5km. He's becoming a very speedy runner, he'll be up for his sub 26 minute parkrun tattoo when all this is all over! Despite all the hills, breaks and 2 metre distancing debacles, this was my fastest non-parkrun 5km at 27:58, so very happy with that 👍 Sourdough and bacon sandwiches for lunch, not as good a combination as I'd hoped - the knotted white rolls are better to be honest. We must keep this going Damien, we're in danger of getting a routine again!
Great run report. You did a great time, well done. I was away from my phone for most of today. I was cleaning my driveway with a power washer. I ended up dirtier than my driveway at the end. I had muck in my hair and everywhere. I’m going to be ready for next Saturday and try for a PB. Yes it’s good to keep this going. We will be ready for when parkrun returns.
Thanks Damien 😊 Ooh, all those lovely jobs we’ve been putting off for ages. An extra shower today then? Katnap and the kittens spent the afternoon sorting the garage, I got off lightly cleaning the kitchen floor!
Good luck for next week’s pb, I’m sure you’ll smash it. Looking forward to it 👍😊💪
I did my 1st virtual PR this morning which coincided with completing week 6 on ju-ju’s magic plan! Up and out by 6.15 (I may be going to bed early to make up for it!) and home with the papers by 7.15. I don’t think I could manage it after 1 whiskey let alone several- but isn’t it lovely how this craziness is allowing us to do things we wouldn’t normally do? I was out in my little garden last night trying to spot satellites (none!) with neighbours in 3 other gardens - we had a lovely chat! Have a good weekend folks!
Wow well done you for getting out so early. Yes my neighbour and I were looking up into the night sky last night. He was telling me about the satellites being launched by Mr Musk. Didn’t see any. But there were a few bats about.
Cheers 🍻 I do that too with neighbours on a Friday evening, which is lovely. And then Saturday is quiz night and have a drink then too. As you know last week I randomly signed up to a 10km the next day so careful what you do after a drink!
I was supposed to be running a 10K night run tonight in Dublin with 8,000 others around Dublin city. It obviously cancelled. Anyway I’m a long way off 10K now. I might start training for 10K again.
I know what you are saying, I’m judy back to 10km now but it was a slow rebuild up. I think i need to consolidate 7-10km and try and include one of them a week for a while, plus a lot if strength exercises and then hopefully i can move up a little. I would like to do a HM one day
I started training for 10K again a couple of months ago. But stopped after the Covid-19 outbreaks. I’m starting to get bored of my 5K loop now. I’d also like to get to running 1 10K per week. Might start tomorrow with a 7K.
Red t-shirt? ✔ New shoes? ✔ Off I go, a little gingerly at first, but the shoes feel comfortable and the foot isn't giving me any trouble, so I settle into an easy rhythm. My route is along local roads , as it has been for the last few Saturdays, and I don't encounter many people, but most of those I do return a smile, nod or 'good morning'.😀
My time is 28.49 - quicker than last week (must slow down!). I get a bit of swelling from the foot in the following couple of hours, but not too bad compared to how it has been, thank goodness.
Been nursing a niggle so I took a rest day yesterday. Up with the lark this morning and ran 5K, with the intention of taking it easy so as not to aggravate my niggle, and heavy legged after a self indulgent Saturday. Finished in 27:26 which is a good time for me. Not sure where that time came from; perhaps from the rest day and my new running shoes, which are very springy. 👟
Not running on Saturdays because of the problem of too many people on our prom, but had a lovely walk on the Hayling Billy line, a route much loved by Dexy5 and UpTheStanley and I think used by Dexy when she was bridging to 10k. Did see two parkrun shirts out for an outing.
Mr Coddfish and I ran on Milton Common today, variously wearing a parkrun shirt and a Great a South Run shirt, finding some of the quieter paths within it. It was a bit of a trade off, the main paths are wide but have quite a lot of users; the smaller paths are quiet but narrow, which becomes a problem if you do meet other people. I came across one family of 4 who were not going to go into single file to let anyone else through. But in general both the Hayling Billy line and Milton Common were full of friendly people happy to accept the area is used by walkers, runners and cyclists. At times on Southsea seafront lately, you feel like some of the walkers react as if you have the bubonic plague when you run past.
I really hope this is over some time. Really missing parkrun, amongst other things.
I know me too. Really missing the simple things and I’m looking forward to parkrun again. But I also think we will look back on this as good family time too. I think we are in this until 2021. An accurate app for tracing and increased testing will help. But there is still a huge number of cases and I fear that relaxation of restrictions will be a backwards step.
