Oh no! I made that tragic mistake again of meeting my next door neighbour at the wall for a little tipple. This time I was in his back garden. Phil threw a few logs into a lovely chimnea and we got very comfortable with a bottle of whiskey 🥃. One drink soon turned into one too many. Now I’m up. Not feeling very running motivated but it’s virtual parkrun day. So I’ll be running 5K in the next 90 minutes in glorious sunshine.
I was meant to be flying out to Marco Polo Airport earlier this morning in Italy. I was planning to run an Italian parkrun next weekend whilst we were away staying in a camping resort. Thanks again COVID-19.
So my plan again this morning is to put on a parkrun podcast, run a 5K route and meet up with my two parkrun buddies, Ida and Petula afterwards at a cafe beside a Gym for a post virtual parkrun coffee and a hangover cure. A good run always sorts it out. When will I ever learn? 😵
Happy Virtual parkrun day everyone. Please post your run reports below. I’m looking forward to reading them all later in the sunshine.

Well you need to let your hair down occasionally! Hope you enjoy your run and coffee. I got up early today and did 5k. Hot and legs heavy but I did it.
Hi Damien, like Womangolfer I have already ran my 11th Virtual 5K parkrun, I had breakfast at 5.15, started the run at half past six, the earliest I have ever ran 🏃🏾, my time this morning was 32.55, a little faster than recent weeks., enjoy your run.
Well done AlMorr , gosh you were up very early. I’ve just had a bowl of Fruit and Fibre and now I’m going to have a coffee. I’m trying to gather the strength to run myself.
Thanks GTFC, it was really good running so early in the morning, I have always been a early riser so running at that time to avoid the heat of later in the morning is fine with me.
I remember many years ago when I was about 12 years old I was out a bike ride way out in the country at around 7.30am and a police car stopped and the policeman in the car asked me 'if I was lost' or why I was out so early in the morning, I told him that I was certainly not lost and was enjoying my bike ride, fine he said enjoy the rest of your bike ride and went away, so now running early is OK with me as well, I hope you are enjoying this lovely sunny weather. 😊
I was out early this morning doing mine before it got too hot (and because I have to stay in for a delivery). It was a beautiful morning to run. Nice to get a shout out from a fellow park runner too😊
Oh my God, you guys are committed. I’m feeling bad having a fuzzy head. No way I could run that early. Definitely not this morning anyway. Very well done to you.
Damien, don’t feel bad, it’s good to cut loose every so often😊 (and if you do feel up to it later, I find a gentle Parkrun is often a great antidote for a fuzzy head)
Your right. A nice 5K is the perfect antidote. I’ll be going on my run in 20 minutes. Just filling up the boys paddle pool now. If we can’t go to Italy on Holidays I’ll try and bring some Italy here. 😀
The kids won’t mind. Ours were happy with the washing up bowl. As were we 😁
Staycations were always the thing Folks used to just get chairs out of the house 😁. The dog hated it if someone took hers outside She’d immediately take possession 😃🌪
Oh damienair you're a hoot! I’m simply amazed you’re even up writing this post for us, let alone planning running in the heat with a hangover - and let’s face it, you won’t be any slower either! Kudos Sir! 😅😅😅
I had the most delightful virtual PR this morning. I’ve just come in. Flossie and I are still running on the Common even though we could head to our old routes, but I feel safe there and it’s easy enough to socially distance. 👍
I set out 30 minutes later than I’d hoped, but it wasn’t too warm as there was a lovely cooling easterly breeze. I felt good. I’ve bought a mahoosive 3.5 litre water bottle (copied my daughter!), so I’m definitely hydrating enough and I’m sure it’s helping me deal with the heat better. I’m not wilting towards the end of my runs any more.🏃♀️🏃♀️
Several dog walkers around, but easy to adjust my route, so it was a very agreeable 5k for me this morning. Now yoga, then brekkie. There are some pastries on the counter that Mr Cheeky picked up on his bike ride. 😋
Yum Yum, pastries. Enjoy your Yoga Cheeky and well done on your run. I’m just after blowing up the kids paddle pool. Need to get my breath back.😀 I’ll be going for my run in about 15 mins. I’m off now for the next two weeks. So plan to do at least 5K everyday. I’ll alternate every second day. Run 1 and walk 1. Cheers.
Ooh Damien! Again?!! At least the weather is Italian-like. Hope you had a good run and your sun is glorious too.
We had takeaway fish and chips last night (actually Katnap had very naughty kebab meat and I had a virtuous veggie chilli & chips, only the kittens had fish) so we were a bit more laden than usual this morning. Just one glass of wine though...
So we managed to get up earlier today and ran before the parkrun quiz!
It was much, much quieter and we were able to run on the roads a bit more. And because we didn’t have to keep crossing the road we also did a quicker one than usual. Not much to say about the route other than that really. It was perfect conditions though and Strava tells me it was my 2nd fastest 5k at 27:22 but overall it was 27:41 (don’t quite get that but that’s Strava for you). Negative splits too 💪💪💪👍👍👍
Then we equalled our quiz PB of 10/15! Great start to the day, hope it continues like that! I’m off to have a shower, do some yoga, try not to fall over onto my nose doing a Crow again, eat bacon rolls for lunch and then kill some vine weevil grubs that’s are eating my plant roots! Have a great day everyone 🌞🌞🌞
Wow, great time. You did great, I’d have been delighted with your time. My run was awful. Completely dehydrated. I struggled big time. But it’s done. I’ll relax for the rest of the day in the garden.
Absolutely. I’m back to normal now again. No more whiskey. Yes a run is a great cure following a night of over indulging. We just have such fun when we have our little spontaneous neighbour nights. It’s good for the head and bad for the head.😀
I managed to get out at exactly 9.00am, just like a real parkrun. Bumped into a friend’s daughter so stopped for a little chat and still managed to finish in 31.00. Not sure how! Rather warm out there again. I’m starting to wish for clouds 😂. Hope your run has cleared your head and have a fun time with the kids in the garden today 😃
I know. I have a love hate relationship with my next door neighbour. I love him and the whiskey, but hate the way he makes me feel the next day. I think the feeling is mutual.😂
We set an early alarm ready for an Australian parkrun start time at 8am before it got too hot. Usual 1km run down to the Start then off we went.
Still quite busy, mostly meeting walkers with and without dogs on the outbound lap. For some reason most of them didn't seem very happy, very few smiles, one nod and one hello. I had just decided that I would turn back at the 3km point when I met Geoff on his return. He told me that he had turned at 3km too.
As I turned back I found myself between two female runners, one passed me, then another came past wearing a red 50 shirt. We exchanged "missing parkrun" comments.
For most of the way back it seemed like a real parkrun, the four of us seemed to be evenly spaced so most of the time they were in sight. One or two cyclists passed and I saw more walkers, these were more friendly. All smiles and most said hello.
At about 5km I met Geoff waiting for me and we walked back to retrieve the hidden water bottle before heading home for a shower and second breakfast.
I think the answer to my problem may be cheese. Perhaps it's a first world problem, wondering what was wrong with a 24'35" not-parkrun this morning, but I really felt sluggish on waking up, and when I did get out had to work hard to maintain the just under 5'00"/k pace that I've been churning out for 7k or more recently. No wind or hills to blame either …..
We had a delightful light supper yesterday , but because it was light I pigged out on Brie and biscuits afterwards . So I wonder if maybe that was my mistake. Controlled experiments to follow maybe .
As reported by Dexy5 earlier, 6/15 for the parkrun quiz was pretty rubbish too , but at least the 6 included the 2 that could actually be worked out (including the Morse Code one, where failure would have shredded my Naval reputation ).
Thanks for keeping this going Damien, no doubts about the source of your malaise
Well done UTS. Your flying. I couldn’t even takeoff this morning. I love Brie and biscuits. I’m trying not to eat too much at the moment. I have a little bit of weight to lose. But it’s coming down again bit by bit.
I had an awful run this morning. I ran my usual route today in lovely sunshine at 9:30am. I was really dehydrated after my 2 person garden party last night. I ran 3K and just couldn’t run anymore. So I walked the rest of the way to meet up with Petula and Ida for our post Virtual parkrun coffee. I spent a couple of hours chatting to them in glorious sunshine before running 2K home. So I did 5K, but broke it up into 2 runs. Relaxing now in the garden with my family watching the boys playing in the paddle pool and having water gun fights. BBQ later for tea. Happy parkrun day everyone.
Hi Damien, I am with you on the hangover runs... we never learn, do we!! I am new here- I graduated from C25k this morning but carried on to 5k in 35 mins (off road with my dog). Could I join your park run Saturdays please or do I need to be a faster runner first?
Hello. Your more than welcome to join in every Saturday morning. It’s just a bit of fun and just like the real parkrun everyone is welcome. Nothing at all wrong with 35 minutes. That is a very respectable time. My very first parkrun took me over 39 minutes. I started doing this post every Saturday morning as I was really missing parkrun. It’s nice to read everyone’s run reports. Next Friday I won’t be over with my next door neighbour. I’ll be better prepared. 😀
Congratulations on your graduation from C25K. Very well done. Looking forward to seeing your run report next Saturday.
Damien
By the way AlysP you can count your graduation run today as your Virtual parkrun if you want. Congratulations again.
These things happen Damien (especially if you've over-indulged the night before!😋). My non-parkrun was uneventful but productive - went at 8.20 to try to avoid the increasing heat and came within a whisker of sub-28 (28 dead - grrr!).
So you did 5k Damienair. Who says you’ve got to do it all at once?. If I was the tail walker I would have been happy to join you for coffee half way through.
Maybe you’ll have to move whiskey night to Saturday when we get parkrun back .
Raspberrypink thank you. But don’t be condoning my actions. Especially not on Virtual parkrun eve.😀 Sometimes I need a stern talking to in order to pull me back in line. I’ll be a good boy next week.
I’m very late with my post. Ran 3.8 miles at 6.30 pm yesterday. It was quite breezy so I had a nicerun along the canal. Speedy 3rd mile for me. I think my 5k time was 27.35. I then had a breather and completed my run 😊. Yes thanks again for sorting this 👍🏼
Very well done and very good time. I’d be very happy with that. I run part of my route down along a river which is nice. But the road is busy. A nice quiet canal route would be lovely.
