I haven’t ran since the start of March, and due to my gym having to close won’t be able to go back to the gym for a long while, I always ran on a treadmill, and really want to get back into it but cannot run outside due to very bad anxiety with this virus crap, can anyone recommend a good treadmill for me to purchase please.
I had got up to running 10K after completing couch to 5k and then carried on and really want to get back there.
Thanks in advance

Are there any quiet areas close to you where you could run? I can understand why you are anxious about being outside with this Virus about. But the chances of catching it in fresh air is nil. So long as you don’t touch anything and keep at least 2 meters from other people you are fine. If you can find a quiet spot even better. If you can find somewhere quiet to run you will love it. Especially outdoor running this time of year. I’m out most days, just for 30 to 40 minutes to exercise. I’m very conscious about the Corona Virus and find that 95% of people are likewise very conscious of social distancing and keeping their distance.
I’m sorry I don’t know anything about treadmills. I don’t even like to run on them in a Gym. Best wishes and happy running.
Treadmills are a bit tricky to find now since so many folk have been buying them...try GumTree for 2nd hand..or Ebay.. there are some reasonably priced ones.. There are some for sale, but maybe a bit pricey and a long wait for delivery.
I have a JTX, which I have had for a while, alongside my elliptical I bought them ages ago, for use after injury and in icy conditions
I empathise about your anxiety... I felt exactly the same. It took me a long time to pluck up the courage to get out of the garden and running .
Could you get up early... I run early normally but now, as I did years ago when I did C25K, I am back running before 6.30 a.m. and see virtually no one, except maybe a dog walker . This morning, she was the only person I saw. On my run on Tuesday which was 5K I only saw 3 people.. all along way away
The hardest run out will be the first one out, so if you could get to a quiet route or have one near your home, then just do a short run, and see how that feels... ?
That's fine...you do what is comfy for you..we have folk like that around here...but they are not early risers...you have had some great advice from Realfoodieclub ..she really knows her stuff! I hope you manage to get one xx
So sorry you are struggling so much but perfectly understandable. For what it's worth, I find I pass fewer people on streets and housing developments than at parks and forests. This far through lockdown people are generally pretty good at crossing roads etc to avoid others. I do supermarket once a fortnight because I hate the enclosed environment but running outdoors is such a sense of relief. I hope you can find a way forward. 🤗
You may, as Oldfloss mentioned, find that you have to wait a bit for it to arrive, so in the meantime I wonder if you have tried any YouTube workouts at home? There are some really good ones out there, have a look at our little library over on Strength & Flex:
I have just got a treadmill due to shielding with my husband. I Was waiting for the decathlon ones to come back in stock as I trust the brand, some of the ones on amazon were getting good and bad reviews and we just couldn’t take a risk, on price or trying to get the thing back to them. Argos was another company I was looking at as well.
Points to take into consideration ( in my opinion😀)
1). How much space do you have? Do you need use some of the space when not on the treadmill, we got a folding one so it can be stored against the wall when not in use.
2) check the weight of the machine. Our was a lighter on at 47kg but it is still not lightweight by any means and if you have to get it up any stairs that is a job and half, some treadmills can go up to 80kg
3) we opted for manual incline. Again this makes it a lighter weight machine, the ones the automaticity change the incline are 70-80kg.
4) be prepared for some putting together, ours took 2 hours with both of us, should only be 45 min but the last four bolts would just not match up but we got there in the end.
5) decathlon treadmill came with a European plug so we had to wait another day to get a 13amp adapter for it.
6) check the weight restrictions some have quite low maximum weight, also check the use restrictions. Some say no more than 30 min three times a week, we needed high usage for two of us.
This is the one we got, and I have to say I love it, it is saving my sanity in this difficult time.
I sort of know how you feel. I hadn’t run since early March because I’m being shielded. At first I concentrated on doing strength and cardio exercises indoors from YouTube etc and then I decided to walk my garden. I’ve worn a path around the garden now! But eventually after scouring the internet for treadmills which were either in stock or could be delivered in the next few weeks I got a JLL one.
I’ve used it 4 times now. It’s very much like the ones in gyms and I’m slowly getting used to it with the aim of getting back to 10k eventually. But for now I’m sort of doing C25k just one run from each week until I struggle. But 🤞it’s going ok.
