Hi everyone after a little advice please. I have just done my first post graduation run and have a recurring issue with numb and burning on the ball of one foot and the big toe of the other, tried some different trainers today a size bigger than I usually take and it was a little better but still very painful. Really want to carry on with runni
My as I am seeing so many benefits but can' see how I'm going to be able to run any further, after 30mins they hurt so much I just want to take my trainers off. It usually starts to bother me at the half way mark and as soon as my shoes are off I'm fine...any advice welcome

Hi Dawnie, just wondered what your running shoes are like. You say trainers, which sounds like you aren't using cushioned running shoes. If you have a neutral gait, you probably haven't had to consider your foot wear much, having a gait analysis at a proper running shop would confirm this, then there is a lot of choice of running shoes reasonably priced that should help with the impact of running. Try some on in the shop, then you can maybe buy them online...
Also running socks. These are padded in the right places and marked R and L for your feet.
Also 😆....I suffer with a burning on the ball of my left foot, its a verrucca though and I can't seen to get rid of it....
I have read that gel insoles aren't great as the wobblyness of them transfers the movement to the knee which isn't great. Hard orthotics that target the problem area are better. Burning sounds like chafing issues though, do you get hot and or sweaty feet? If so maybe a cream or vaseline could help. I have some German stuff that helps stop blisters, it works well.
I saw a running physio. He has prescribed specific excersises, metatarsal gel pads ( looped around the toe) he does a massage and I roll my foot over a spiky ball. Lots of water, no high heels or narrow fitting shoes. It is treatable- And mine is getting better. With help, he told me not to stop running as the foot will hurt more as my body tries to work out the sudden stop. Good luck, hope you can get some help.
Oh wildswimmer thank you so much...that is really helpful, I've ordered some metatarsal gel pads as I read that it might be that...fingers crossed it gets better just Bern for a 6k walk and had to stop 3 times to run my feet to ease it 😣
