First 10k and it actually felt good!

I was meant to be taking part in a 10k event today and had been working towards it using Juju’s magic plan. I had slacked off a bit as I knew it wasn’t going to happen and because of problems with stamina as mentioned in a previous post. I had got as far as running 2 x 8ks one of them fairly fast (for me) and hard work and another following my previous post and your advice, really slowly. In the event today I decided to take it easy too but actually ended up being faster than expected (1 hour 11). I concentrated on not getting out of breath and keeping going. I am lucky to live in the beautiful New Forest so enjoyed looking at the ponies and newborn foals along the way. I felt really good for the rest of the day so thank you so much for your encouragement it has made a real difference! Hopefully I will manage to lose a bit of weight and get faster but for now I am very pleased with myself!

Good run, the views of nature help me a bit too. I’m still on 8k week 5 but am trying to run easily like you rather than push it. Getting injured at the moment would be terrible. If I make 10k in anywhere near your time I would feel ecstatic.

I had done 2 8ks prior to this and then jumped straight to the 10k. The first 8k I did in 55mins and the next in 1hour 3! Slowing right down was a revelation in what running can feel like without being totally out of breath and I think why I managed the 10k in this time!
