That’ll teach me

On Monday I had one of my best runs ever!! And did a lovely Spine Release Pilates session that evening and felt fabulous afterwards. Slept like a log and woke with a cricked right shoulder - you know the one where it hurts right down to your shoulder blade when you turn your head? Must have slept in an awkward position.

So I tried gentle stretches- Deep Heat cream- ibuprofen......didn’t do that evenings Pilates ... and went to bed moving very carefully. And slept badly!!! so on Wednesday I decided against running as I still hurt when I moved my head suddenly. I DID do a gentle movement Pilates session and freed up my hips and spine but kept away from anything much that involved my arms and neck.

And today I thought I was feeling better.. well enough to run so went and did run 2 of B210k week3. Oh what a contrast to Monday’s run!!! Never mind Toxic Ten this was Toxic 53!!!!!!

I was fully hydrated ( drank 8 large glasses of water yesterday plus normal drinks). I’d slept fairly well. But I struggled and nearly gave up several times. My head was going “ I could just do a 20 mins run?” “ I could just do 3k?” “ I could go home now .. I’m not training for anything”.

BUT being a cantankerous sod I even argue with myself 🤣🤣 so “ You are out here getting wet so keep going!!” “ you COULD just do 3k ... but you’ll still have this run to do again next time !!” “ no you aren’t training for anything but YOU are the one who wants to run 10ks again, aren’t you?”. And so on!! At one point I think I I actually argued with myself out loud 🙄

And so I DID keep going and I DID complete the run and it was horrible!! But I am glad I carried on. I would have been really cross with myself if I had given up. And when I think back now , after a lovely long soak in the bath and something to eat, I realised that as the Iron Bridge I usually run across was being repaired today and I had to change direction, I ran up a hill that I don’t normally go near AND I had 2 new PRs on a couple of sections so it wasn’t all bad.

My shoulder and neck are still sore though so more Deep Heat and I am so missing my chiropractic sessions... she would have sorted me out days ago ☹️

Oh dear limberlou, you’re going through the mill aren’t you?! But congratulations are due - you got out there and ran, when everything was telling you not to! I hope your shoulder starts to feel better soon!

Yeah but I’d rather not have too many runs like that one ...🤔

Wow you did really well battling those demons today - sometimes you just need to get out and do the prescribed run. I hope your neck pain disappears very soon. Happy running 🤗

I love the image of you arguing with yourself! I can certainly relate to that.

Apparently I used to do it as a child too. Only child for 8 years until my little sister came along. Well I thought I was. That’s when I discovered that Mary who lived at my Nans, and was 9 years older, was my big sister.

But yeah not only did I talk to myself I argued with myself. Now I just talk to my cats 🙄😜

I can sympathise with you. Injury is the worst! Wishing you well.
