It’s been a while since I went out on a run. Sometimes I just have to give in to the demands of life and take a break ☺️. But, I still refuse to consider it a stop!
I’ve kept a daily exercise routine for a few weeks now and today, I decided that it was time to run. I’ve not felt so enthusiastic about going out for a run. But having tidied up the garden earlier in the week, and inspired by an exchange with Cheekychipmunks earlier this morning, I thought I’d give the new garden run a trial! I chose a 25 minute guided run (...while thinking 10 might be better!🤫). I didn’t think I was going to cope with doing that long running round and round, (well...up and down really)😳.
But I did it!! It wasn’t boring (I was expecting it to be) and I was really relaxed too. I was very impressed with not having the toxic 10 this time too. So, the verdict... I’ll be very happy doing a garden run and I expect there’s more of these to come. A great running adventure!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Now I have my GR (Garden Run) PB too!! 🤩😂😂

Well done, this is great! It's amazing what we can adapt to. Just out of interest how big is your garden... just trying to work out if it's even feasible to run in mine...
Thank you!! It’s about 80ft to the back fence. I have a couple of obstacles, so it’s more like swimming in a lane for the most part 🏊♀️ 🏃🏽♀️ . I did go round the rocky bit at the back to jazz it up a bit though! 😂
🤔 You know... I think your mind just switches off the smallness and you just get lost in moving your feet, I honestly don’t think it will matter. ❤️
I reckon I've only got about 20-30ft before I'd have to turn around... although I did run for 30 minutes on the spot in the living room the other night but don't know if the constant having turn around would be worse 🤷♀️
Honestly, I would say give it a go!! 😃 I think it would surprise you.
I tried to upload a photo with my post, but it keeps coming up with an error. The garden is long, but I have to manoeuvre around a few plants and shrubs too.
You've inspired me, I'm going to try it this week! I was only saying to my husband before that I've waited all winter to be able to run in day light (only get to run when the kids are in bed) and I was miffed because I couldn't, well I'm going to do it but in the garden! I'll post my new GR PB after my first run.
Good run up and down your garden, how many times but you probably lost count, for me to run a 5K around my garden, I just learned a little while ago that I would have to run round it 238 times🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much Almor!! 🤗! I didn’t think it wise to go for distance, so I did time. I ran 3.55k in the 25 minutes. I didn’t look until the end and I was very surprised and happy with that. Honestly, if there’s no other choice, I’m not sure it will matter. 😃❤️
I’m contemplating it for my HM at the moment and I really don’t fancy it. Our garden is only about 40ft long and 10ft wide. If it has to happen I may put a telly by the patio doors so I can watch a film whilst I’m doing it, just to keep me sane! 😳xx
Thanks so much TailChaser! 🤗 I’m sounding like I have a huge garden 😳! I’ve got a garage back there too. But honestly, I think you might be surprised 😯 . I really wasn’t expecting it to be a success. Especially remembering how bored I got with the ‘little park’ down the road where I started C25K and the pensioners walking their dogs used to make a little fun of me chugging along! 😂
I had my headphones in listening to the guided run. I felt free and probably more relaxed than if I had gone out elsewhere. That got the good old endorphins firing!! 🏡 🏃🏽♀️ 🏃🏽♀️ 🏃🏽♀️🤩🤩🤗❤️
I’m so envious of a nice garden - I have what is politely termed a ‘patio’ garden, it’s not even big enough to be called a courtyard! So 3 steps, avoiding the washing line, would see me having to turn round again! So I’ll be running on the spot and thinking of large gardens! Congratulations on your GR PB - May there be many more of them for you!
Thanks so much Oldgirlruns!! 🤗 You know, I’m not a gardener at all and have so many times wished it was a patio garden. 😉 It really does take me longer than the average to mow the lawn and keep it tidy 🥴. But I keep trying. It’s now the gym/park and running track all in one!! 😂
I’m so glad we have had such good weather to be able to do this ☀️ !! I hope that continues for a while too. I’ve got a few indoor exercises down packed if it does take a turn. I hope we all have a few more happy adventures along the way! 🤗❤️
Oh thank you WillowandSola!! 🤗 It was so much better than I expected 😃. I have absolutely no idea how many times I went round 😂. It would have taken too much thought to count and I’d probably have lost count anyway😳. So, I just kept listening to the guided run and lost myself in that 🎧 and enjoyed moving my feet. 🏃🏽♀️😉❤️
It’s good to be outside, i’m currently walking to and from work as my mot runs out today and been practising, apart from the cold wind it’s great and will keep it up, my vo2max on my garmin is changing too so even though it’s only a short walk it’s doing good. Keep up the garden running and have fun
I admire your lawn! I wish my husband would cut ours. It looks more like jungle thanks to the bird food seed that's germinated and sprung up much higher than the grass, and even higher than the dandilions. Good for you for having the mental strengh to run up and down, and up and down, and up and....
I saw a butterfly yesterday in the garden. It must have been very cold because I certainly was. They love the (very) wild geraniums when they come in to flower. Husband has already warned me not to to thin them out too much when the time comes.

It’s just me and my two boys, they’re big strong young men, but I still end up doing it. So I know the feeling well😂. Somehow the garden never gets quite the same treatment when they say they’re doing it 🤨.
I can now say I’ve made the most use of it for years. No....ever! 😂! ❤️
Well done. I have a friend who wanted to save his exercise session to run with his children so he did a 5k running around his car on his drive! 294 laps and a couple of blisters later, job done!
I'm impressed! My garden is about 80 foot but is too winding to be much good. However, there is a private driveway behind the gardens at the back, serving all the garages in the street. Not many people use it, so there are a lot of bushes and trees and a fox den. I might run up and down there!
Thank you Roxdog!! 🤗 After that little experiment I’d say we can run anywhere. I went right to the back to turn running over a rocky bit for variety. 😀 Even thought I might need to get trail shoes for this bit 😂. I just decided to go out and make it fun. It’s a run 🙌🏽, so you can’t really go wrong with that. I don’t care about the distance or the time...just running!! ❤️
