I started my run this afternoon wearing a sports bra, loose vest and fleecy long sleeved top. By 3k I had to take my fleecy top off (I’ve never stripped off during a run before) as it was just too warm. I’ve always seen runners in winter running in vest and shorts and thought ‘how can you do that?’ But today, I was chuckling to myself as I passed pedestrians in their thick winter coats and wool hats and I wasn’t even noticing the cold on my shoulders - it felt like a summers day! I think I’m converted to running in my vest now even in February.
Did anyone else find this today? Is it finally getting milder??
Now see I always thought I’d be a long sleeved runner - even in the summer, but honestly, once the long sleeved top came off I didn’t feel cold at all!
I’m with you about today! My long sleeve top was in the wash, so short sleeve loose t-shirt and a long sleeve zip top over it. Soon I was glad of the short sleeves, and then unzipping the top layer to let it flap in the breeze! It only stayed on because 1) I needed the pocket, and 2) it was a short run. 👍🤣 In spite of the storm warnings, I reckon Spring must be moving nearer. Hurray! 🎉🎉🎉🎶🎉
I ran today in what I've been wearing the last couple of months, what I did notice was the amount of sweat on my body and running down my face when finished ☺️☺️
We are all different - the only time I add an extra layer is if it is chucking it down with rain and then I wear a lightweight water resistant top and peaked cap to keep the water out of my eyes! In winter, I never manage to keep a beanie on because I get too hot - although I do like a pair of running gloves when it's chilly. I opted for a long sleeved top today but would have felt happier in short sleeves actually.
At this time of year, I tend to have a long-sleeved merino base layer under my running top. As soon as I'm warmed up, the sleeves get pushed up. I don't really like having my forearms covered, I find it very uncomfortable so they've pretty much been bare since my teens. My only real concession to winter is my running tights that I wear under my shorts instead of my usual trunks.
I've been getting too hot in my winter weight running tights and tops during parkruns and have gone to my summer ones. It just the first mile I keep my light weight long sleeved fleece on for.
