10K curiosity!

Hello all, graduated from C25K in August and have now clocked up 11 Parkruns plus have been doing 3 milers twice a week as well.

Curious about moving on up to 10K and noticed a few familiar names on here from my/our C25K “student” days!

Grateful for any thoughts, advice, shared experiences, etc and if I did fancy it, any recommended apps.

Thanks

Hello Dalmorangie , if you're interested there is a group of people starting together on the 31st January to get to 60 minutes or 10k. Good luck 😊

Hello there! It’s been a long time! Sounds like your running is going really well. This is a lovely group here too, and I’ve recently started following Ju-Ju’s Magic Plan and loving it. There’s a pinned link at the top, but there’s a group starting it together in a week or so too. Happy running - and I’m looking forward to seeing your posts again!

😂🤣👍 if you’re recommending it, JuJu must be good! Yes running going well and not the quickest 🏃‍♂️ on the planet nor have I shed stacks of timber but it’s amazing how running has now become embedded in my life after never being there before! Off for my first Parkrun Tourist jaunt this morning (York Racecourse!) so will have a good think about the 10K.....you and all the others from last year have done so well, brilliant in fact, moving on up into 10K 👏 👏

I’m definitely not the fastest! But I’m loving it. I think I’m addicted to the feeling of progress, following a plan! Still haven’t done parkrun though... Enjoy your York run - post about it!

Jazzy, you’ll love Parkruns as they’re such a great atmosphere and gets you into a routine - I like progress and a plan which is why C25K is so good and must say JuJu route sounds good too!

I will do a parkrun one day!

The 10k plan is perfectly doable. In some ways easier than c25k. Personally I chose to slow right down to be able to run the longer distances. Now happy with my speed and loving still mixing up my running distances rather than run to a set distance I choose a route knowing I'll manage. Good luck

Like that idea of mixing it up distance wise!

If you haven't already, pop over to the bridge and look at ju Ju's magic plan

With all of that 5K running under your belt I think you are well prepared for the challenge of 10K. The JuJu plan is very popular and seems to work well for many people, and seems a safe route.

What worked for me (eventually - I made a false start which resulted in me being on the IC for 3 weeks) was similar to Gtb. I gradually extended one of my 5K runs up to 10K, deliberately running at a slower pace than my 5Ks, and whenever I felt uncomfortable slowed down a bit more, so I was always at a pace that felt easy.

Sounds good advice and JuJu plan clearly getting good ratings from those who’ve done it, getting very interested now!

Another vote for JuJu plan! You can print out and follow it yourself any time you like, but it's nice to start with a cohort so you've got support from people at the same stage as you.

Thanks and it’s that group support that was so good on C25K 👍

Ofcourse you fancy it! It’s a fantastic plan! You are absolutely ready for this as you’ve done more than enough consolidation.

Join the next group which I think starts soon. Put you name down so you receive the posts.

Print off the magic plan and maybe think ahead about structuring and scheduling your runs. It’s a 8 week pla and time will fly! It’ll be over before you know it.

Thanks JaoJao, just checked your story out and certainly matches mine....well the pre-10K bit anyway! Currently looking through local “segments” on my Strava working out routes for JuJu’s Magic 10K 👍🏃‍♂️
