Yesterday I went to visit Up and Running with my husband who was buying me my Christmas present - new running shoes! When I began C25k, I just bought a cheapish but comfortable pair of trainers that did the job, and told myself that I would only ever invest in a better pair if I stuck to running.
Well, I graduated back in October and it's been rather hit and miss since but I've kept on and I'm proud of myself for persevering in the cold, even though I m finding it difficult to get to 30 mins running again.
So, back to the shop. I'd put off having a gait analysis done because I couldn't entertain the thought of getting on a treadmill (never been on one before ππ) for everyone to see as I do my wobbly shuffle..
Time to bite the bullet. I walked in and was rather disconcerted to see an empty shop with three very young sales assistants who looked as old as the kids that I teach. Eek.. Anyway, I approached one and he was very helpful, got me through the whole analysis thingy (apparently I overpronate). He was very good with the treadmill, asking if I was on with the speed.
"Yes, yes" says I, eager to get it done with since there are now other folk in the shop who all look to be professional runner types and I feel excruciatingly self conscious..
Once of the treadmill, I realise with great embarrassment that I am too out of breath to comment on the different shoes offered to me for trying on. I pretend to be deep. In thought.
Once my shoes are chosen and boxed up, I thank the young man who has seemed vaguely familiar throughout. He then tells me that he is an ex pupil and remembers me and I make the connection... and he gives me a 10% discount. We had our run ins at school but he's done well, and did a brilliant job.
So, I'm about to set out shortly to give the new shoes a go. It's cold, windy but bright. I need to get my mojo back... Wish me luck!
Whoop, whoop! New shoes, new impetus π. My niece went there for her first pair, just the other day, for her birthday gift. She got Brooks in the sale
Good luck with your new daps, have fun!
Well I m back! Managed 25 mins and LOVE the shoes, kind of like running on clouds ππ
Lol! I so relate to this! You really made me chuckle.
Happy, happy running in your new shoes. π
I made myself laugh Elfe! I felt line a snorting Wilder beast on that treadmill. On my run just now, as I was springing along in my beautiful new shoes, in my mind I was a gazelle leaping along the grassy plains, the wind behind me and my limbs all lithe and supple.
In reality, I was plodding along and a lady twice my age swiftly overtook, as did a young couple and I was left sweating and shuffling in the dust ππππI care not, for I see myself as a flag flyer for all less then lithe, wobbly women like me who are out there and proud and hopefully getting better at this running business just.... Slowly....
Wow they look nice. I visited my local running shop today but it was full of people so I had a quick look and left. I will return when not so busy π. Glad to see your later post about running on clouds π
That's a wonderful story. Told beautifully. As an ex teacher myself I can empathise. I once had to buy a new car off one of the biggest rogues I ever taught. It's a sobering experience!! Good luck with the new shoes. They look great. Did you tell us what model they are? Or did I just miss it?
Well done for being brave enough to expose your running technique on the treadmill π Iβm sure the new shoes will get your new year off to a flying start.
I went to up and running too and did the treadmill thing. Ended up having to hold my trousers up as I ran on the treadmill because Iβve lost a bit of weight completing C25k! Lol. But the new trainers are great. More supportive as you say. Wishing you many happy Ks in 2018 ππ
