Anyone can do it!

6 months ago today I went out the front door and did week 1 day 1 of couch to 5k and it’s been the best thing that ever happened to me. I graduated at the start of August, did a 10k in September and today completed my first half marathon in 1.50. Can’t believe 6 months ago I couldn’t run. Anyone can do this believe me! Bring on the Manchester marathon in April!

I'm not sure I could run 10ks, I've ran it over two day's tho. But would love to do a half marathon by the time I reach 50 year's old. I have 3 years to get to this. How would you train for something like this?

Just go up each long run each week or every other week. Don’t need a plan for a half 👍🏽

Hi I did exactly the same for my half. Did you have a plan for going up to a marathon or did you just up your long run the same?

I started with a plan but it broke me by week 11! If I did another, I’d just go up every other week and not do a long run every week! Need more recovery time.

What so did you just do your own thing after week 11? There are so many training plans I don’t know what to do. How many days a week did you run when training?

Yeah. Before week 11 I was running 4 times a week but it didn’t allow my legs to recover between long runs. I dropped back to 3. Most people in my club just did 3. No one followed a plan really. I’d add extra cut back weeks next time. Don’t go over 20-21 either. It’s taken me 5 weeks for my resting heart rate to drop back to what it was before my marathon but I seemed to have suffered more than most🤣 I wouldn’t do a summer training marathon again. I’d train through winter for a spring marathon. Think I’ll do Manchester. Doubt next year. Maybe the year after.
