Can anyone suggest solution please?

Dear Runners, a year and a bit on, and 5k finally achieved a few eeeks ago. I meant to say weeks, but it can stay as eeeks. Anyway, my music comes from my iPhone using Bluetooth via headphones, and mr announcer on map my run is never boring and provides inspiration to keep me going sometimes. The Q is, should I buy a running watch? And if so, which? I’d like to see my route and times, and hear my music. Currently I have a iPhone strapped to my L arm but think time may have come to replace it with a GPS watch with music? What works for people please?

Many runners on here have Garmin watches, and I have the Forerunner 235. It’s ace and provides more stats than I know how to use!

It doesn’t play music though, but that doesn’t bother me as I like my phone with me at all times in case of emergency etc. However, some upscale Garmins (and other watches) can store/play music too. 👍

I'm maybe not the person to ask :) . . . but this is my "old school" set up that works for me - a Garmin GPS watch, for time and distance and a small, old but lightweight mp3 player for audio books or occasionally music, phone stays at home unless I'm running somewhere remote.

Thanks og, helpful, love the old school idea but my mp3 is not wireless I fear!

No, my mp3 player is not wireless either 😀 ... it's old and battered from being in my pocket with my keys while running but it still works fine 😀👍

Sorry I didn’t mean that, I meAnt that my headphones are wireless, and that I couldn’t get on with ones with wires, so I can’t use my mp3 player! I like the os thinking though!

I just use MapMyRun on my phone. Can have music at same time and shows distance and speed.

Sorry jb, my reply has disappeared! I use runkeeper on iPhone, with its holder thing, but it’s quite difficult to read while moving along. All suggestions welcome!

If you want to play music and track your pace/distance without taking your phone then the Garmin 245 Music is a solid choice. Trouble is, it’ll set you back £300. If you don’t mind carrying your phone (which is always a good idea, should something bad happen) then a Garmin Forerunner 235 is an excellent choice. You can pick up a second hand one for around £80.
