Been loving reading the posts but massively busy with work projects (self employed, so weekends are never sacred thanks to people trying to book appointments at 9pm on Saturday evenings) and still trying to get the running mojo back after being injured 6 months ago and gaining a stone in weight (and still not stopping the rot 😞)
Long story short - I had the opportunity to meet with Silicon Valley venture capitalists and learn about the investment and business scene in SF, with Barclay’s Bank Global Connect and Commonwealth Ventures. The course was Monday to Wednesday and I begged the OH (who I left at home with the dog, for once) to stay until Saturday because of Parkrun at Crissy Field. I felt is was a nice highlight to the running year since being forced to abandon my attempt at Swindon HM when I got injured.
It was a stunning view - but very windy. We were lucky to not have the 30 degC temperatures from earlier in the week - nor the drizzle from the day before. The walk back to Fisherman’s Wharf was definitely worth the effort and so rewarding with sights.
I didn’t stop smiling all week - and I smiled as I ran too. I do enjoy running. It just kills me at the moment, but I think I need to do some nice short, slow runs to get that ‘I can do this’ feeling back again. Right now it’s hard watching so many VRBs and actual running buddies getting so much faster, running so much further, while I am so unfit and fat, especially as this time last year I was in full swing heading into the Great South.
But I loved SF and the people. There were runners from around the world at Parkrun too. If you get the chance to spend a few days exploring the city then definitely go. You won’t regret it!

Thanks JoJo - I am a terrible patient and competitor, and usually avoid comparisons and competitions for that very reason. I learned to cope in business, so I am sure I can bring my head around in my hobbies too!
I get that you’ve got a goal and I’m sure you’ll get there. I’ve slipped in my routine. You’re not alone. Unfortunately life sometimes put the brakes on us, but your goal is to keep on and that’s always a big inspiration. That smile tells me it’s worth it and I couldn’t agree more. Keep going Equi, I’m right behind you, trying to do the same.
The Great South Run is still there and I can see you smiling crossing that line too! 🤗🤗❤️
Yes I have ☺️, but always glad to be reminded that it’s not over unless I can say I don’t ever want to put those running shoes on again. I think we’re going to be just fine! 🤗❤️
Oh Equi what a joyous photo! I’m so happy you got a chance to run in beautiful SF. Of all places, that one is surely a good one to start getting your mojo back. 😍
What a fantastic opportunity to do a parkrun so close to such an icon! I hope you go a mention for having travelled so far. Your huge smile says everything. Enjoying it is the main thing 😃
What a fabulous photo, and so nice to see you back on your journey. I remember SF from the dim and distant past, my OH used to windsurf there while I kept my fleece firmly on, and my feet onshore! I was very far from being a runner then though, I have PR jealousy now!
I know it's hard but be patient and build up slowly, and one day you'll find that it's suddenly easier, and your body remembers some of its fitness from BIC ( Before Injury Couch). Hope Mr Equi has recovered from his dog-sitting!
Thanks grumpy! They still windsurf on the bay there - and there is outdoor swimming in a harbour that has almost an amphitheater on the shore - lovely looking venue! Mr Equi was happy to have me home - almost as much as the dog 🤣
Ohhh fab pic. U look well happy 😊. Pleased to see u back. U'll get there 👌👍. Sorry but I must have missed u being injured and did wonder where u were. Take it easy
Thanks Deals - ach it’s my flipping arthritic hip(s) - the Hamstrings calves and glutes weren’t taking enough of a role, I have poor core stability too, so the imbalance with my over-active quads meant the hip wasn’t as supported as it should have been when I ran. Fine up to 5k when nice and slow, but faster and longer caused a lot of pain. So 16 weeks of physio and had to adjust how I ran, but still a lot of niggles with the new running style and pain in the back of my knee now too - so am still working through everything. Think I need miles on my new running muscles 😁🤣👍
Hey Equi!!🤗 Lovely to see your lovely smile, and that you're still sporting your GoodGym tshirt 💪👊🏃♀️ Good on you for getting out there again ~ so pleased you are now post-injury 🦋❤️🦋
Glad you are rediscovering your mojo 👍 many of my friends have been to SF and it seems you were super lucky the bridge wasn't hidden by fog. Obviously the sun shines on the righteous xxx
Oh Equi, it certainly sounds like you got your mojo back in San Francisco - what a fabulous place to run!
And try not to feel down about your lack of running. Life (and injuries) get in the way, but you're determined. Don't think of it as trying to get back to where you were, but just concentrate on improving on where you are now. As OldFloss says, those runs will be waiting for you!
Good to hear from you again Equi-geek! Sorry to hear about your extended lay off but I hope you’re on the road to recovery. Isn’t it annoying how easy it is to put the weight on and how much harder it is to shift it?! I love SF - that PR sounds gorgeous!
I love San Francisco Equi and am very envious of you doing parkrun there. You were so inspirational to me when I saw you at the great South run last year, so soon after doing c25k. So I know that you are going to get back into that happy zone with your running again. Life just takes over sometimes. That run will probably be the spurt you needed.
Thanks Dexy5 - I hope so - I need to sort my diary out and start to book appointments with myself to ride the horse, train the dog, and go swimming as well 🙄🤣 Not enough hours...
Lovely to see this fantastic photo! Just brilliant! Well done to you! I am sorry that you have had injuries to contend with. You look vibrant, full of joy and energy. What a really, super photo!
My husband I visited SF last year and I had read they have a Parkrun, but we were not there on a Saturday.
Wow - what a fantastic place to run! Looks like you enjoyed every minute...love the picture you look so happy Here's to the start of your renewed love of running, and getting a routine that suits you x
