Great Scottish Run 10K

Hi,

Started running in July, graduated from C25K in August and ran the 10K in Glasgow yesterday! (2458th at 56 minutes 50 seconds!) So delighted!

Didn't imagine that at 58 I could do any of that and hadn't even thought about it 6 months ago.

Have discovered that I love running and can't wait to go out every second day.

It's been so good for my body and mind! Just regret not starting years ago!

Thanks also to the encouragement over at C25K forum when I doubted myself!

Laldy!

What an amazing result in just 3 months! Many congratulations. Don’t regret not starting sooner, just celebrate that you’re doing it now. Happy running.

Welcome to the club. Great work doing a 10k event so soon after completing C25k. It took me more than a year to pluck up the courage to enter an event!

Congratulations to you Laldy on completing the Great Scottish Run yesterday sub 60 minutes, well done.

I was a spectator in George Square, I was right at the staring line cheering all the runners like you on their way.

Apparently there were over 9.000 running, congratulations to all of them, however, I can't ever see me taking part in any run with so many in it, I prefer running with 200/300 as in parkrun, not 9000 or more.

The support was fabulous yesterday, really spurs you on, thanks for that! After the start (hill!) it thinned out amazingly quickly.

I have done one Parkrun, so far, at Pollok. Really enjoyed that too, I'll be doing more of those!

Were you in the green wave with that time?, I noticed the 1 hour pacer, that was the green wave, the next wave was the 1 hour 10 minutes pink wave,

(by the way I ran a 69.23/10K locally round Broadwood Loch Cumbernauld last Wednesday, had to run round the loch 3 times to make the 10K)

There seemed to be hundreds if not thousands in that pink 70 minutes wave, then I noticed a pacer with a 1 hour 15 minutes banner followed by as many runners as the 70 minutes one, I had to wait ages to cross St Vincent Street at Buchanan St to cross the road once all the pink wave had passed.

All in all, a great morning for runners and spectstors alike.

I was in the Green wave and was standing just in front of the 60 minute pacer at the start. My original target was 60 minutes and was going to follow her but someone had suggested my target should be my age in minutes (58) and I just tried to pace myself to make it. I left a margin of error and was delighted that I finished more quickly! A fabulous morning! So many people! Running round the Loch with music sounds much more relaxing though!

It is nice and relaxing running round that Loch.

Once you finish the 10K run they give you a well deserved medal, the announcer I heard yesterday in George Square told all the new runners to let him know how many first timers there were, I noticed that most put their hands up, he told them to be very proud of of themselves and wear the T Shirt they would get with the medal at further running events, that would of course include a parkrun, I am just wondering if you and the other runners have to pay extra for the T shirt or you get it automatically with the medal when you complete the course.

Hi. They ask your size when you sign up and the T-shirt is in the finisher’s bag. After the race there were lots of people with the purple tops on!

I’m sure that you would enjoy the event. It was busy at the start but thinned out quickly and was very well organised and everyone is supportive and friendly. A real experience!
