Dilemma

When I did the C25K I entered a 5k as an incentive to keep it up and I graduated on race day. I am now doing couch to 10k and have entered a 10k race in Bournemouth on 5th October. Unfortunately I have been sick with a stomach bug for nearly a week now and can't run. As I was due to graduate again on race day I am now behind with the training and still not recovered. Is it possible to cut the training short so that I can do the race without doing myself a mischief? I will be so disappointed to miss it.

A week or two won’t affect your futness Helen, so just get back to where you left off when you are fit enough to run. Don’t run without the rest days but follow the programme. Week 7 is a repeat of week 6 so if you have to go straight from week 6 to your race the following week that will be fine. I skipped the 2nd 9k when I did the plan. Whatever happens just run as far as you can and you can always walk /run after that. Just remember that the plan is designed to keep you within the 10% rule and keep you injury free.

Thanks. I didn't think about doing some walk/run if it gets too much. That's cheered me up!

I also skipped the 2nd 9k run. Just carried on one day

If you can do 8K yourself you will have no problem doing 10K on race day. There is nothing like the atmosphere and crowd on race day to pull you along.

Not sure where I am on distance at the moment but am running for 50 minutes. Just hope this bug goes away soon so I can get back to it.

I've had various little bits of illness and soreness that have kept me away from running for a week or two. Have always been surprised to find that my fitness has survived and I can just pick up where I left off so hope you will find the same! Best of luck!

Poor you, I hope you feel better now. I’ve also had a bug for the last week but ran yesterday and everything was totally fine. I was worried it would have set me back but it really didn’t at all and I ran further than planned.

Good luck.

Thank you. Still poorly at the moment and starting to wonder if I will ever recover. Chomping at the bit to get back to running!
