This Sunday sees my first ever real race!! The Altrincham 10k. I entered back in October last year, not knowing how things might pan out in the meantime. Well, despite the odd glitch and worry about heart rates (unfounded now, I think), here I am. I’ve done a good few 10k runs and know I can do it, but it will the first time with real people. My times tend to be just over the hour, which I’m ecstatic about. It will be good to have an official time though. I’ve done a couple of Parkruns, but as we always say, these are runs, not races!
I’m looking forward to Sunday and let’s see how it goes.
As an afterthought: I don’t suppose there is anyone on here doing the Altrincham 10k? If so, it would be good to say hello.
Wish me luck and I’ll see you on the other side, so to speak!

Thanks very much for this. Everyone enthuses about their first race and racing in general. I never thought I would enter a race and certainly that wasn’t the reason I started running. But as the day draws near, I’m getting so excited - hopefully not too much! I’ll let everyone know how I get on.
First time with real people. Remember to run your own pace. No doubt you found this with parkruns, other people tend to make you run faster. Have a great day!
