Managed a 30 minute 5K today, what a shocker!

I feel like there's been some sort of misunderstanding...not quite sure how it happened but when I got to 3K in 17 minutes 45 seconds I sure wasn't going to take it easy. Literally hit 5K at 30 minutes (or 5.01K in 30.02 as Mapmyrun told me, then a mad panic to get to the arm band off and press pause).

I was too tired to cheer but I'm well chuffed now...can you tell πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜πŸŽ‰

Thanks Buddy, I'm not sure exactly how it happen, I think the planet's must have aligned or something, but I'll take it! πŸ€”πŸ˜Š

Yay! That’s fabulous! A good run day is a great day! Well done! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks, it certainly is...shattered now, I'll sleep well tonight 😊

That's a great run for you today Run46, for the exact time you ran, look at the smaller 5K split time at 5k at the bottom right of the graph, that could well be 29.? that would be a sub 30 minute 5k for you. 😊 πŸƒ Whenever I run a 5k, I quote that split time, not the time in bold, that only stops when you press pause or stop, not at exactly 5k.

Thanks Al and for the info πŸ˜ƒ

RunBrianRun profile image
RunBrianRunGraduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Al you are full of useful information! I never thought of looking at the split time. πŸ‘

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toRunBrianRun

It could make the difference between a sub 30 minute 5k and a +30 minutes 5k run, seconds count.

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Unfortunately for me using Mapmyrun, once I've saved the run and come out of the app I can't see the splits anymore...but I'll know for next time πŸ‘

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toRun46

In Mapmyrun, when you open it at first you will see a graph which only tells you the "community, friends and me" also your name and when you ran.

In BOLD you will see distance, pace and duration, for more detail of your run, tap that page and that will open a more detailed page of your run which includes a map of your route, distance, duration, below that, average speed, calories, elev gain, average speed and most of all splits, if you don't see them, go to "settings" tap all the options, they then should appear.

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Is this the free one your talking about Al, as when I go on it, the 1st page I see is a GPS map of where I am now which says start workout. If I press the top left icon a list comes up, then I press on routes and that shows saved routes/runs. When I click on one of those then I get a map with my previous time, ave.speed and elev.gain but not much else. I've looked around and can't see anything else. Not sure if yours is the paid for one, or I'm on a different version...or just missing something?! πŸ€”

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toRun46

Could be a different version Run46, I do have the free version, for example the paid version has heart rate, when I ran that recent 10k, the auto Alexa announced that my heartrate was zero, if I had the paid version, hopefully it would be a bit more than that, even my free version has splits.

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Haha, yes I hope your heart rate is higher than zero too πŸ˜†

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

I've found it Al...thanks for getting me looking! On my version I have to press the 3 lines icon on the top left of the screen, then dashboard and then workouts and it's all there 😊

Was actually 30 minutes and 1 second so not a sub 30 but great to know all that info is there!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toRun46

You can also have Mapmywalk and if you cycle, Mapmyride, the walk part tells you how many steps you have taken, I went just over a 8 kilometer walk during the winter and it informed me that that I had taken just over 11,000 steps.

Yahoo and many congratulations. That’s fantastic. You should try a parkrun soon. You’d get a sub 30 at one for sure.

Thanks Damien, it's a good day 😊

Not sure about that though...the Park Run close to me is really hilly, in a country park 😳

damienair profile image

Pick a flat course. I bet you you’d be surprised though at you local hilly parkrun. Nothing like a crowd of faster runners to pull you along.

Thanks Dexy...crazy thing is there was no target today, it was just supposed to be a 30 minute run prior to my long run at the weekend. It was a fluke I think and may never happen again πŸ˜†, god bless these cooler evenings πŸ‘

Not a fluke....well deserved...I think it happens when we take the pressure off ourselves....

Thanks and yes, you're probably right...no expectations, just running for running sake. The longer runs, the short speedy ones and the strength training are clearly paying off πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

My previous PB had been over 32 mins which I was really pleased with, can only assume the longer runs and shorter faster runs plus a lovely cool evening worked their magic 😊

Well done!!!

I would love to know the secret. I just seem to hover around 7.13 per km and cant really break out of it.

Run46 profile image
Run46Graduate10β€’ in reply toRunadink

Thanks...I'm not sure there's a secret but nature/genetics may be playing a part. I'm 48, 5 foot 8 and a reasonable weight. I'd also been walking a minimum of 10,000 steps daily and occasional zumba for over a year before I started running so started at a reasonable fitness. Can only assume that along with longer runs, speedy short runs and strength training it's making the difference. I'm about the same as you on my longer runs πŸ‘
