Well it's been 10 weeks since I fractured my foot and I have just over a week to go before the fracture clinic final appointment. Hopefully they will say it's OK to run then. The foot feels great and I have walked a very long way in the last month!! (just under 70 miles). Have discovered some lovely new walks which I probably wouldn't have done if I had been carying on with the running. And have picked a load of blackberries and made some seriously tasty blackberry and apple crumbles (in memory of my Mum, who was the queen of blackberry and apple crumbles and pies and in fact all pies of any description).
Today I saw a fantastic huge pig, grunting and rootling in the undergrowth. This reminded me of my favourite book when I was about 3 or 4. It was called "Happy Pig" and all I can remember is that he rootled and rootled. I loved that book.
So what I am trying to say is that being on the IC has some side benefits, in terms of discovering new things and rediscoverings old memories.
I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me when I was despondent about the foot fracture. And I'm looking forward to starting C25K again with Michael Johnson.
You are all so great. Happy running. πβ€πββοΈπββοΈ

That sounds very promising indeed! Brilliant. And what a fab photo.
I went for my 'final' appt at the fracture clinic last Thursday; still no sign of healing on the xray and as it still hurts with every step (albeit nothing like it did at first), he doesn't think it's healed. I'm now waiting for another MRI and then have to book back to the fracture clinic 3 weeks after that. As I'm going away for two weeks next Thursday, it's looking like the very earliest I will get back to the fracture clinic will be mid October! I'm glad that back on 19th May I didn't realise it would take this long! I am more than a teensy bit envious of you right now, but definitely wish you the very, very best of fun with MJ. One day that will be me too π€
That sounds like a very serious fracture - so sorry to hear that It's not healing. I think I've been incredibly lucky. I remember the terrible pain at the beginning and thinking it's never going to heal. Your fracture is obviously more complicated. I'm not a patient person but patience has paid off in my case and I guess eventually it will with you too. Sending you lots of love and hugs! Keep us updated about your progress. π€π€πππ
Not sure about more complicated; my work is very physical so I have been on my feet throughout which probably hasn't helped - being self employed, taking time off wasn't really an option.I will watch your progress and be inspired π
Love that photo! π How brilliant that you have made such good use of your time while on the IC . Good luck with the fracture clinic appointment. Yes I remember those days, pre-running when we used to enjoy lovely walks.
Maybe go blackberrying next week while we are tapering for the Sunday race.
The week before a race you run shorter runs at easy pace to conserve your energy but still keep the body moving. So easy pace 20 min/ 10 min/ 5 min. It doesnβt seem long ago that 1 minute was not easy!
Yes it has seemed like a long time, particulalry during the early weeks when I thought it would never mend. Am really hoping that the doc gives me the all clear on the 9th! π€π€π€
You sound like I was last year. I walked miles when I fractured my ankle last June and couldnβt run for 12 weeks and I picked blackberries and sloes and rosehips and made rosehip syrup, cordials , jams, sloe gin, crumbles and pies and froze loads of blackberries for the winter.
Youβll soon be running again and youβll have built up your fitness with all the walking too. Good luck at the fracture clinic π€
Thank you! The walking and foraging has really helped. I've seen sloes and loads of elderberries so perhaps I should investigate how to make sloe gin and elderberry wine! Happy running! ππ
Elderberry port is great. Recipe really easy if youβd like it. And sloe gin for that matter. I use a really old book called Hedgerow Wines and another written by a bloke my daughter used to work with ( signed inside the cover for me by the author)
I think we will be starting again together as my back is feeling better too π I spiral fractured my ankle a couple of years ago and it was good to go after 6 weeks so hopefully yours will be too. My mum also made delicious blackberry and apple pies πππ
Good news that your back is feeling better. Look forward to hearing that you're back on the running circuit! Blackberrying at this time of year is a family tradition and I've carried it on with my daughter. It always reminds us of my Mum (her Gran). Happy running! ππ
Fantastic news Jo! 70 miles! So why aren't those in the distance challenge, we need you to get round the moon you know!
I hope you get good news at the appt and yes sometimes looking after ourselves teaches us new things and reawakens old too!
I was due a run this morning but I managed to knock no less than 3 items out of the bathroom cabinet onto my left foot yesterday morning. None of them particularly heavy but the trajectory and velocity was not good. I had a lot of discomfort at work yesterday and there's some bruising today. I'm praying if I just give it a break then I'll get away with it. So many tiny bones in our feet, it's a wonder they can do the things they do!
Great piggy, I do enjoy seeing the animals out and about ππ»π
Thanks JoJo! Lovely to hear from you. Now that's the sort of thing that I do - dropping things on my foot! Hope it's just bruising and nothing worse. You're right about all the bones in our feet - my X-ray was quite an eye opener!
The pig was magnificent - also saw loads of sheep and a group of people with pet goats on leads - they were beautiful creatures.
Will send updates from the fracture clinic! Take care and mind that bathroom cabinet πππ
How fantastic, what a fine beastie! I've been on the IC for a month now, still waiting to find out what's going on with my foot, I can't even walk very far at the moment so I know that despondent feeling very well. Hopefully the end is in sight for you VERY soon
Thank you so much! I feel for you, particularly as you still don't know what's wrong. Hope you get a diagnosis soon and that it mends fast. I can only say that you have to be patient - which is not my strong suit! Very best of luck and keep posting - the support on here really helps. π€π€ππ
