Well.. I dislike the 'f' word with a real passion... so I changed the quote.. Sorry Winston:)

Horsefly bite.. almost gone... ABs finished yesterday....Yeay!! Running again when I feel stronger?? Hold on... wait a moment!

Knee X ray late on Monday, (Following up a twinge from 6 weeks ago, kneeling awkwardly on a stone floor) + GP calling me on Tuesday + Fracture clinic early and consultant Thursday :)

All adding up to...da da... no running for 6 weeks whilst I rest up and we then have an MRI to check for the changes in.... wait for it ...a possible old fracture, ( really old... pre-running) of the tibia/fib... across the leg and just under the knee...or... the beginnings of a NEW fracture... under the knee... and... to add insult to injury...I have a misaligned patella and ligament issues because of said fracture:)

If it is an OLD fracture.. Physio.... if it is a NEW fracture... 8 more weeks rest...:)

This is... and my consultant said it..nothing to do with my age :) Young people get this:) That made me feel so much better... hmm :)

So...HM on hold.... running on hold.... but.... I can walk, cycle, or swim :) And generally still cause mayhem!

I am over the shell-shock now I think and making plans to keep myself and the family sane whilst I wait this out... small runner in training will help.. the garden will look like something at RHS Chelsea... I shall finish all my unfinished watercolours...plague all my chums on C25K with slow and steady... walk and walk.. and thank my lucky stars that my ailments are so, so minor in comparison with the issue some of our great and dear friends on here are undergoing right now.

Happy healing to all of you awesome folk....The snail has slowed down ..but still moving :) x

Awful news OF, I’m so sorry. You have an amazing spirit and attitude which shines through in everything you write on here. Have a lovely time in your garden and don’t forget that insect repellent. I think this Winston quote sums you up beautifully.

Oh blimey that is rotten, rotten luck. These things certainly are sent to try us and all that, but flipping Nora, you've only just got back in the saddle, so it seems. Still, you know that the HM is just on hold for now. It's having it's own little summer hols. You will get there and when you do, it will be all the more amazing and mean so much more. And we will all be cheering you on! A wonderful summer lies ahead with SRiT keeping you in check! :) Before you know it, you'll be back, fingers crossed.

I'm just coming back after 3 months out of action.... I can't believe it has been that long. But I've found other things to fill the void - quite nicely as it turns out - until I could get back to it. It's been an eye opener for me and another valuable lesson in patience and self-awareness. I've learnt so much from running. And you guys :) Now I'm just rekindling the love again. Instead of taking it for granted and over analysing everything I do (as I was prone to do), I am now slower (yay!), less hung up, just so glad to be back and boy does it feel great!

I will run for you OF and everyone else who's on the IC. xx

Oldfloss profile image

Thank you...you have had a time of it too... but I do feel the IC and I are getting too well acquainted !

Gosh Floss,

Reading this is an emotional roller coaster.

So many lessons you share from the initial shock and challenges asked of you to your quickly formulated understanding and positivity to successfully return from the IC.

Your love for small runner, and your many interests there to sustain you and your successful return to your HM plans when ready.

Not calamity our Floss, too many unfortunate challenges, which amazingly and as many have said your spirit and attitude will surely prevail.

With best wishes for a speedy recovery to you our awesome Mentor.

As ever my best thoughts come to me 5 mins after putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) somewhat mushy maybe but I think the below sums up you and this community perfectly, here's to you emerging from the storm ASAP Oldfloss

When you walk through a storm

Hold your head up high

And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm

There's a golden sky

And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on, through the wind

Walk on, through the rain

Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart

And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

With love from us all x

Oh dear, you have given your body a battering, haven’t you? Where do all these fractures come from? It can’t be from your running (like a gazelle, gently kissing the ground). I read somewhere that the bone is stronger after a fracture is healed, so if it’s an old break you’ll be stronger than ever. And once they’ve got you all re-aligned you’ll be flying!

Stay positive as ever and good luck with everything!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toJaySeeSkinny

Thank you my friend... that is actually what the consultant said... !

He said, I clearly had no trauma with the fracture if it is old.... and that he could just not tell from the x ray if that was the case... I think because the stress fracture is right under the knee and is lateral!

I felt better when he explained it to me! I am being positive and hoping for a good result... it seems at the moment I have gone from the trapped sciatic nerve..not running related,

( 7 weeks off).. then the infected bite... not really running related... ( 1 week off) and now this, not running related, and more likely to be one of the falls from my bicycle..( 6 weeks and possibly another 8 weeks off) !

So your comment really cheers me.. stronger and fitter and realigned!!! Love it xxx

JaySeeSkinny profile image
JaySeeSkinnyGraduate10 in reply toOldfloss

You can tell I come from a medical family! Father a doctor, mother a nurse - we just soaked up all these medical snippets of wisdom😎

Glad you’re feeling a bit happier. Thinking back you have been in the wars, falling over tables in the dark seems to spring to mind!

But you will return. And at some point you’ll be running with your granddaughter and she’ll be dead proud! Fit grandparents are a real blessing - and when I look around the playgrounds here they seem to be quite rare! I played chase with my “step grandson”, aged 6, a couple of weeks ago. And in no time I had a following of other children because I was the only adult playing with them.

So you’re not only a shining example to us, but also to your family!

A broken leg - pah - that never stopped OldFloss running!

Ouch - it's most definitely not fair. However (looking on the bright side, which I annoyingly continue to do), I'm hoping that the gorgeous rose in your picture has a perfume to it, and that as the gentle breezes waft that delicate perfume in your direction you'll treasure the scent. Hold on to that small silly memory, and then when you are out and running again and you go through somewhere 'a little demanding' you can draw on the memory and that might spur you on to more running, better running, happier running.

Huge thanks for all the support you've given not just to me, but to all of us - and I do hope that rose is 'blooming gorgeous' for you.

Aw Floss, how can this be?? I guess it just is, and that's that. It's an opportunity to indulge in all those other things you love doing...and let's face it, rather it be now when you can plough yourself into your beloved garden in the warmth of summer, than in the middle of winter when you can't! Big hugs and a wish for a smooth recovery. Xxx

Haha you go for it!!! I wish I could make myself get out in the garden...I want it to look pretty but don’t have the green fingers!! Enjoy it, as you have said to so many of us...the runs will be waiting and it was so true...we’re back to week 6 now and mr p is doing well...I can tell you for sure though if he was not doing this alongside the 🐌 he would most definitely have gone off at a greater speed and would not have got to wk 6 so easily!!! 😜

I missed this post over here on B210k. I'm so sorry to hear your news OF and I hope your leg heals quickly.

It must be frustrating waiting for the scan. I hope you do enjoy your summer sabbatical all the same 🌞🌻💐
