1st run post graduation- why do some runs feel so much harder than others?

First consolidation run post graduating on Tuesday... found it tough today... why are some days so much easier than others? It’s my day off so if anything thought i would have more energy not less! I ate an omelette about 2 hours prior to running is that likely to have contributed to it?

2 hours shouldn't cause a problem, I think it's quite common to have a bit of a dip after graduating. Your body has had a lot asked of it, and once you hit that magic target, you haven't got that goal to aim for suddenly. Don't worry about it, take an extra recovery day, maybe do a shorter run next time.

Okay thank you

I worry that by doing a shorter run will be like going backwards tho rather than forwards?

No, the odd shorter run really won't hurt. In fact, if you take a peep at juju's magic 10k plan, there are three runs a week. One shorter than 5k, one 5k, then one that gets a little but longer each week. If it makes it feel less like "cheating", you could try try doing faster bursts during the short run.

On my first run after graduation (since done 7, run 1 rest 1) motivation for some reason was low. Which I guess is why it wasn't one of best and the least enjoyable. However from that set new challenges and all ok.

I found consolidation difficult without a set goal in mind other than keep running.

I forced myself through 3 weeks of 30 min runs with an odd faster shorter run thrown in. I had one really good run and one where I pushed on to 5k, but in general I found it difficult. BUT I am really glad I did it. I needed the km in my legs and the confidence in myself to be able to carry on to longer distances (a personal goal).

Hang in there

Even though you have finished c25k you are still a new runner . Don't worry about some runs feeling harder.

I recently thought my runs were getting tough and it turns out I had to slow down and it really helped. Good luck 😊
