So much slower than I thought

I’ve been following the wonderful magic plan, and was so pleased today to run for 55 minutes (a hell of a long way from struggling with one minute, I thought). Anyway, I tracked it on Fitbit for the first time ever, and was dismayed to find that I’d covered 5k in 50 minutes. I’ve been so excited to run for, what in the next couple of weeks will be an hour……to have only just got to the 5k of the original programme? Has anyone else had this disappointment? I feel a 10k is akin to a half-marathon for me now…. and I was feeling so pleased with myself.

Goodness me, you ran for 55 minutes? Thats a massive achievement 😁👍😁My first 5k took 52 minutes and i was so excited, I told everyone I saw for weeks. Im not much faster now but I have run it in 40 minutes.

This certainly isnt a race, talking of races I'm going to one soon for 10k and feel a bit silly because it will take me about 1 hour 45 minutes and yes people run a half marathon that fast, but I'm going and will enjoy it, and one day you will run further and a bit faster.

Just be proud you were out there running for nearly an hour 😀

Thank you, and I did feel like it was an achievement, but it was the first time I saw the distance and was then really disappointed. I’ll get over it. Yikes I can run for nearly an hour! I was happy before the stats so maybe just run and to hell with it?

Yes, that's the best way, and if you continue to run you will find one day you will be faster or be able to go longer

Please don’t worry about how far you ran in 55 minutes. Allthegear. That’s a lovely long time to run. 👏👏👏

I’m a serial trotter and absolutely love it. Did you enjoy your run? Did it feel good? If so, you don’t need anything more. There are plenty of ways to train for more speed and lots of people swear by it. I love the occasional quicker run, but 99% of mine are spent bimbling around loving it!

Really well done. 😀

I’ve been plugging away at this for months and I’m not sure I care any more about distance. Some days I run further than others depending on the route (I still hate hills) and the weather but so long as I raise my heart rate and break a sweat for 30 minutes that’s all I’m worried about. I average 40 mins for 5k which is not fast but I’m quite happy that at 65 I can jog along for 30 minutes 3 times a week

Hi, Well Done for running for 50 minutes!

I find it a struggle still to run 30 minutes!

But after loads of good advice from this lovely group I now make myself run slower in order that I can run longer!

Today I ran 30 minutes & felt I could run more, although my pace (to me) was much slower.

But as I was running I had the groups mantra ‘enjoy the run!’ & I did!

One day I’ll run for an hour, slowly & steadily….
